Tito V Rashad Who is your pick?

Rashad will win IMO. Tito has too much to overcome this time.

I thought Forrest Griffin was fighting in this one. I guess not.

Of the other fights if I know one fighter I don't know his opponent so I can only comment on the main event.

This should be one of the best UFC events in a long time. There are 4 or 5 great fights.

I'm rooting for Evans. I think it'll be a close fight. Not sure who'll win.

Anderson Silva defends his belt.
Sean Sherk defends his belt.
Nogueira makes his UFC debut. He's tough.

Should be fun to watch.

I hope Tito beats the shit out of Rashad(I can't stand him- don't know why- he just irks me). I just cant wait to sit and relax and watch it. Shouldbe a good night of fights all around.

On a side note- anyone else hear that Gray Maynard died after that slam to Emerson? I heard he had a spinal problem and he died. But I cant seem to find any info online. Thanks.

The sole intention, is learning to fly.Condition grounded, but determined to try. Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies.Tongue tied and twisted, just an Earth bound misfit.

I'm pullin for Tito to utterly destroy Rashad, the light heavyweight class is getting heated, look at the lineup of top fighters we have in contention for the belt right now, Chuck, Henderson, Wanderlei, Tito, Griffin(if he wins his next fight he'll most likely be seen as a contender), it's going to be a great couple months.

Sherk and Silva will both defend their titles, Sherk is a bad little mofo, and Silva is awesome at picking apart his opponents, plus I want silva to win to he can face Rich again.

Nope I haven't heard anything. HE does look like he'd have a sore neck/back but I don;t think he died.

that slam was NASTY though.

I still agree with all Dan IV's pics except the Florian to win pick, I don't care for Florian.

And Ortiz will take Evans, he continues to get better every time he steps in the octagon, and this is Rashad's first real big fight. A lot of people knock Ortiz for his decision victory against Griffin and his loss to Chuck, well take a look at em. Against Chuck Ortiz lost because he was afraid to get close and throw combos at Chuck to set up the take down. He managed to get Chuck down once but didn't have a good position so he lost it, every other time he shot in for the take down he did it from the outside so it was easy to dodge em. Against Griffin he wasn't himself cardio wise, Ortiz is known for his conditioning and by the end of the first(he he clearly dominated), he was gassed. People don't realize how much cardio makes a difference in fights, I won a fight by decision last week instead of submission despite the fact that 4 or 5 times I had my opponent in a submission but had run out of power and couldn't finish the submission. Everything was set up right I just had no more to give, in that fight Tito was just tapped out on strength. I like Forrest but I think if they ever met again Tito would dominate all the rounds. After coming off his training camp leading up to his fight with Chuck he was at a whole new level with his standup, he won the first round and the second was a split in my book. I'm sure his training camp for this fight has been even better considering he purchased the De Lahoya compound in Big Bear and can now conduct all his training at one place.

You never know though, the last few UFCs have proved that no matter how much the cards are stacked in someones favor the octagon has a unique way of allowing upsets.

Well I picked pretty good on this one, with the exception of the Florian I had em all, and Florian, I didn't really know his opponent, I'm just not a fan of his, and despite the fact that he won, he still doesn't look like he has the skill to beat Sherk if he gets a rematch.

The Tito fight, Rashad did a good job, he only pulled out the draw because Tito lost a point for grabbing the fence. Looking at the fight though Rashad needs a lot more discipline if he's going to continue to move up the ranks. Yeah his take down defense was good, and he never gave Tito a good opportunity to work the ground and pound, but he did a horrble job of controlling the fight and all his strikes were wild and he didn't work combos or use his strikes to set anything up. Tito' downfall on his feet isn't skill, it's confidence, his strikes, when he threw them were clean, technical and straight down the pipe, no wild haymakers. A few controlled overhand rights but they were intentional, not flailers, his biggest problem is he isn't confident enough that he can finish on his feet. He has the skill, he just needs a good knockout win under his belt to prove to himself that his standup is good enough to engage, if he can do that his take downs will be even better because he can close and setup the shoot from a tighter spot. Overall it was a good fight, I was on the edge of my seat and completely agreed with the decision.

The first fight with Herring and Noguera(sp), Herring could've ended it in the first but he was so afraid to get wrapped up with such a good grappler that he stood up and backed away from an iminent TKO victory and allowed his opponent to recover and dominate the rest of the fight. I picked Noguera to win on that one.

Sherk v Franca was an AWESOME fight!! Some of the best technical ground work I've ever seen, Franca didn't make a single mistake the entire fight, Sherk was just in a different place, as are most champions in their prime. Hermes should be happy with the ground work he had, he just couldn't deal with Sherk's power, he had the perfect counter to Sherk's takedowns, almost everytime Sherk would shoot Hermes caught him with a knee to the face, Sherk was just so tough the knees didn't do enough, anyone else would've gone down from that.

Silva and Marquardt was a good one as well. Silva isn't one to push the pace, he is known as a counter striker, he holds his ground and waits for his opponent to attack, finds that weakness in his opponents attack and exploits it. Even when Silva was on his ack he was ever in any danger, he ended it clean.

Overall I'd say this was the best UFC I've ever seen, and now I get to look forward to Randy's title defense next month, that's gonna be an awesome fight.

Yeah I have a pretty addictive personality, have you seen my commentary on the Malevsky meet in the RW forum, I went a little overboard;)

One more note on the Tito fight, I have to take another shot at Rashad, towards the end of the first round Tito got cut under his eye, looking at the replay in slo mo Rashad grazed him but caught him with his thumbnail. Well his thmb was sticking out a lot more than it should've been while making a fist, I think he may very well have done it intentionally. Not to mention Tito showed far more class in the immedeate interview after the fight, and to top it off he's coming to Iraq!!! Maybe I'll get to catch him this time around:D:D

The knee at the beginning of the second was almost a game-winner for Franca. His follow-up right glanced off Sherk's shoulder and missed. I thought Sherk was one stiff shot from losing at that moment.

What a relentless strong dude Sherk is!! Wow!

I liked the first PPV fight Noguiera/Herring. Herring let him get away at the end of the first after landing the kick to the head.

Herring let his opponent get inside his head, he was reluctant to get tied up for fear of being submitted so he backed off too soon.

I can understand Herring's reluctance but Nogueira was rocked. Hard to deviate from your game plan but it certainly was a golden opportunity.

Question for you....I thought the Silva/Marquardt fight was stopped a little quickly. Was it?

You know what, I thought that for a second as well, but afterwards I saw the ref made the right call. Marquardt was down for a decent amount of time fter the fight was stopped, and if you see, about four punches before it was called silva caught him with one tat slid right between Marquardt's hands and caught him on the button. Silva has an amazing way of sliding his fists straight through is opponents defense. A lot of times when people are knocked out clean they stiffen up, which would explain his hands still looking like they are protecting his face, look back at Rich Franklin's fight prior to losing to Silva, he hit that guy(can't remember who exactly) so clean he locked up and fell down like a stiff board.

Was it Nate Quarry the guy you are referring to?

I'm glad to hear it was a good stoppage.

I don't very often buy the PPV but I enjoyed the fights last night.

I think that's it, I've got the interview of that fight on DVD, I may have to look it up and confirm.

I just watched the ortiz/evans fight.

did tito look tired in round 3?
I think thats a first,no?

(do you wanna start the ufc 74 thread?)

EDIT:
Just watched the whole event.
Heath Herring gave the fight away. If I had 2 losses to the guy I just put on the mat I would not let him get up.

Sherk was unstoppable.
Silva, was the same.

Its funny that I thought I didnt know enough of the fighters to comment. once I saw the faces and preview reels I knew all of them (except mintuaro)

This(ufc 73) was a very entertaining event. I hope they stay that way.
