shah269 0 #1 July 28, 2009 I'm sorry but I can't seem to find the thread but did some one state that there are only 31K skydivers in the US? WOW! Oh i have to get better and get past jump 100! I mean we can hardly afford to loose any one. Even a total n00b like me :-) to injury.Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay. matthewcline 0 #2 July 28, 2009 It is 31K+ current members of USPA, there are a few more skydivers out there who are not USPA members. MattAn Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

cocheese 0 #5 July 28, 2009 Don't be sorry. Go play golf.We don't want skydiving to become popular as say driving a car. People will be on their cell phones trying to text in freefall.
MikeJD 0 #6 July 28, 2009 I see those doubts about coming back after you heal have disappeared. Have to agree with cocheese and NWFlyer though - I'm in no hurry for the sport to get more popular than it is.
NWFlyer 2 #7 July 28, 2009 QuoteI'm in no hurry for the sport to get more popular than it is. I've got no problem with increasing the numbers in the sport; I think we as a skydiving community can do a better job of retaining people at the points where we lose them (fresh of A license and in the "now what" phase - depending on where they are jumping that may be a great period of their career or a frustrating one). But I don't "recommend" skydiving to "anyone and everyone" and I don't try to talk anyone into jumping in the first place or staying in the sport if they decide it's not right for them. This sport is not for everyone - and it's far too dangerous to totally democratize it."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please.
