FAA regulations on jump plane requirements?

Recommended Posts

Quote

Does anyone know off hand what part of the regs specifies the requirements for the PLANE to be legal for jump operations?

Part 105, 91 and maybe 135. If your looking for specifics it could get a little complicated but here is a link to the FAA website. http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/faa_regulations/

And if all else fails go to your local FSDO office.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

Yeah, complicated, because afaik there's not a specific JUMP PLANE section. A lot depends on the configuration of the airplane. For instance, if you strip the interior out of a King Air, but don't have seat belts for all the jumpers, it wouldn't be legal because you don't have a seat belt for each passenger. The regulations don't really care if the passengers are skydivers as far as seat belts are concerned, but they do as far as seats are concerned.
Anything specific you're looking for.
You don't have to outrun the bear.

Helps if I had more specifics. What kind of aircraft? Are you adding modifications?

There are may aircraft that can be jumped without modification, for example a Cessna 182 can, however most DZ's will modify the aircraft by having a jump door installed (they are approved to be flown without a door), and a step. Sometimes this is handled with an STC, and other times with a 337.

Send me some particulars and I'll see what I can say about it.
