Newbie needs advice please.

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I am new to skydiving and just getting started. I see this as a sport that I will continue to do. Therefore I want to start looking into getting my own rig. So what would be a good set up for a beginner and where are some good sites to buy equipment from? Not looking for anything fancy or bright colored. Thx all Steve

You’ll never fit in with that kinda attitude. :P

The best advice I can give is to ask your instructors and to take your time. You're not really in a position in your skydiving "career" to buy your own gear until at least after you've got your A license and even then a lot of people are better of waiting a short while.

Try this: http://www.uwesu.net/skydiveuwe/gearfaq.shtml?

It’s something I’ve written for the uni club I’m involved with. It’s far from being all the info you need. In fact, 90% of it simply tells you to ask your instructors. It does give you an over view though and would be a start as to basically what kit there is out there.

I reiterate though, your first point of call MUST be your local instructors.

Read this:

and this:

And then ask your instructor.

Thats about the best possible answer you could get for this question.

The more I jump, the more I realize that I should wait before buying and then demo a bunch of stuff first to make sure it is what I want/need to have fun safely.

Sure I could run out and buy a wiz-bang rig, but what's the rush... learn to fly your body and canopy safely and then your equipment purchase will sort itself out based on your flying style/needs.
