Ace canopies

Recommended Posts

Hmm what do you actually wanna know about it.
i'm from slovenia and know Stane (the designer of ace) pretty well.
Well you'll have trouble getting a new one, because they are not made anymore. Ace is an old model, which was replaced by impulse(alpha).
After impulse it came cobalt. Actually if you order impulse now, it's the same as cobalt, it just kept its old name.
So impulse/alpha/cobalt or whatever do you want to call it, replaced Ace.

the sizes for impulse/cobalt i think are 150,135,120,105,...

If you have any more questions, just ask.

the guy is selling it to me for 200dollars australian, it's done about 300jumps. He says it flies like an icarus safire. Just wondering what someone else that may have jumped one can comment on it's performance- glide angle, flare, turns etc.

ugh, i havent jumped it even once, so i can't help you with that.
All i know is that if it's not too used it's a good canopy. At least that how it loos like watching from the ground. The guy that has it, flies and lands it almost as impressive as other guys with stilletos and cobalts.
That's all i can say about it...

I own an rather old and worn out Ace 100 (YOM 98, some 800 jumps), but it still flies very well (I have some 300 jumps on him). It's toggle turns are quite fast, the front riser pressure is a bit big. It doesn't loose a lot of altitude in any type of turns (in my opinion). It does plane out, it's swoops can be very long, as long as the approach is set up correctly. And mine doesn't seem to have a lot of bottom end flare (but I believe that I just don't know it that well to get it out of it).

In my opinion it's a very nice canopy, with nice, soft openings (mine are getting a bit worse, probably because of the line set) with most of them on heading :P

I jumped an Ace105 with a wingloading of about 1.5-1.6 for 700 jumps and was very happy with the canopy. Openings were predictable, nice and soft. Longer and better on-heading compared to Stiletto. The canopy itself flew quite the same as Stiletto, but had maybe a bit more lift at the end of the flare. Front riser pressure was maybe a bit harder and recovery arch quite the same as with Stiletto. So I think it can be compared to Stiletto in many aspects. I have not flown Safire but think the Ace is more agressive canopy...
