Legal BASE Jumps

Recommended Posts

I've been wanting to try BASE, but don't really want to risk arrest. An arrest could lead to losing my security clearance which would most likely cause me to lose my job.

I know about Bridge Day, but are there other legal BASE jump sites preferably in or near Texas.

What about Mexico? I was playing with Google Earth and found a cliff just across the border that certainly looks jumpable. It appears to be about a 3000 foot drop.

Definitely read the "Before You Post!" guidelines in bold at the top of this page, and understand that we're not going to have a discussion of specific sites in this forum.

For info about legal jumps in Mexico, I'd recommend contacting Adrenaline Exploits. The difficulties on the Mexican big wall sound like they're mostly post-opening and landing, rather than freefall.

There are plenty of legal jumps in the US (there's a nice bridge in my home town that's legal 365 days a year, and sees jumpers most of those days). There's also a whole bunch of legal jumping throughout the desert southwest (check in with Apex BASE in Moab for some info about one popular area that hosts a boogie every Thanksgiving).

Short answer? There's plenty of stuff. And Texas is a big state.

I hope your not serious about Mexico and cliffs. The Potato bridge is the first time jumpers paradise. Most manufacturers offer first jump courses there as well as some others such as Johny Utah. Here are a couple to check out. I am a moron and dont know how to make these links live!!!

I have read the "Before You Post" and fully understand nobody is going to identify specific sites. My question was "Do Legal Sites Exist?" Your answer is yes, so my next step it to contact local BASE Jumpers and get assistance finding them as well as gear and instructon.

Thanks.

I wouldn't try the Mexico site without expert assistance but it looks like it would be great fun. As for the potato bridge, it is a long ways away, but I may consider it one of these days.

Thanks

Johnny is the way to go, www.johnnyutah.com

Just out of curiousity, how much experience do you have with different courses offered by different people and companies?

I have no experience with Johnny's course, but knowing him (a little) I'm very conviced he puts up an excellent course that will make an excellent entry into the world of base...

...but so do many others. Saying that one particular course is "the way to go" is only useful within a context that explains why it is more so than other offerings.

Just to stress again; Johnny is a great guy with a great course. But so are many other people and courses.

Thanks,

Jaap

I was going to say your reading way to in to this. But I was being nice.

Yeah, sorry. My bad.

I always find it interesting how much passion people can have for something if they haven't tried the alternatives. I was a tad harsh this time. I need to sleep...
