  1. I made my first AFF jump at 320lbs. My exit weight was about 375-380lbs. We used a modified tandem with a 340sq main. Fortunately, I never found out what the reserve was...
  2. I don't really have anything to compare them to, but they weren't uncomfortable. I did have a little bruising on the legs and shoulders, but nothing serious.
  3. To anyone that may be interested. I've made the jumps. the protracker says I fall at an average of 140mph (no arch required). and I peaked at 171mph on one of the jumps. I didn't have the protracker when I was tracking, so I'll find that one out next time. The people were great. the weather, fine. the sensation, incredible... I was at a 1:1 wingload and wanted a little more perfomance from the canopy, but I'm just happy to be jumping. Also, I found out I have a lot of freefly people that want to jump with me... I guess they like that "head down" position. I'll post some pics when I get them developed. Jumbo
  4. First, I want to thank everyone for their posts. The discussions being batted around are very informative. Second, I appreciate everyone that has offered words of encouragement. And, as importantly, The people that have just laid it on the line, and said what needs to be said (i.e. 100 pounder sports vs. 300 pounder sports). I'll have some more info about my quest in a few weeks. After I make my first jump. Yeah, you read it right. I'm slated to jump in a couple of weeks. I've made an agreement with my instructor that, if when I arrive, he doesn't like what he sees (me). I'll catch the next flight home no questions asked and no hard feelings. A rig is being adapted to meet the requirements for my size and build. I've got a custom made suit to help slow me down. and I'm working on dropping a few pounds before I go. There's more to it than that, but I'll save the rest for the season premier (I'll post after the trip). Thanks to everyone!!! Jumbo Names and Locations withheld to protect the innocent.
  5. Thanks. I'm in the Washington, DC area. I've called all the Local DZs (within four hours drive), but nobody is willing to teach. I'm expanding the range to 6 hours drive or a round trip ticket to anywhere.
  6. Thank to everyone for the input... I'm going to make some calls right now. Dan, Thanks for the DZ info. I'll let Larry know you recommended them.
  7. Thanks for the input. Any idea how I can talk a DZ into teaching me. I'll buy the canopy and all the beer they can drink. I want to jump!!! If anybody knows where I can jump,I'd love to here from you. Thanks again billvon P.S. How about somebody starting a jump school for the "Big-Boned"? You could call it "The Freefall Fat-Farm."
  8. Are there any weight restrictions for skydiving? I'm guessing it depends on the canopy? But, I don't think anyone will train me using a cargo chute... Could I use a tandem to take lessons? I'm a pretty solid 310lbs so I don't think I'll be losing weight anytime soon. Any suggestions would be great.
