  1. I know its all about personal preference, but do you think that I will regret buying a basic rig (no articulation, basic back pad, etc...)? I have mostly been jumping basic student gear, and I don't know any better. I figure it would be a better idea to spend that money in other places... Like on a sky hook, or jump tickets? At this point, I would rather get experience, and become a safer skydiver than have a flashy rig. Does this make sense, or am I just being cheap? If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  2. This is the first time I have heard of this problem with the cut in laterals. I appreciate the insight, but I am not really too interested in many of the "comfort" options. I am going to keep my first rig very basic, keeping options (other than safety) to a minimum until I have enough experience to really know what I want. If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  3. It was my 16th jump so i wasnt too sure of nething other than my butt hole puckering.. My instructor told me that my reserve deployed very cleanly bc of the sky hook. If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  4. I have heard both sides of the Mard or no mard argument. Why would you recommend the rsl over a mard? If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  5. ... Also, the skyhook has been jumped hundreds of thousands of times before me If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  6. On my first hop & pop I got unstable on deployment, and my bridle wrapped around my ankle. As a very inexperienced student spinning on my back, I was screaming my eps in my head.. As I was clearing my cutaway handle and preparing to pull silver ( I was taught locate red and silver, grab red and silver, pull right, arch, clear, pull silver, prey)I looked up and saw my reserve inflating over my head. (skyhook equipped rig). This really gave me confidence in the skyhook. I know that I should never rely on a piece of gear to save my life, but I would rather have that extra piece of insurance if (god forbid) I can't locate my reserve ripcord. I understand that certain people are anti-rsl, but (IMHO) the benefits outweigh the risks. I just want to know if it is wise for an inexperienced jumper like me to jump without a skyhook. If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  7. I have met a lot of ppl who dont like rsls. But i have also met a lot of people who won't jump without one. From what iv heard, the benefits outweigh the risks. If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  8. That is why i posted. As far as I know, the wings container has all of the safety features (other than the sky hook) that other containers have. Are there some safety issues that I don't know about? If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  9. I know that the base price is low, and it gets more expensive with options. As far as I know, the Icon is the only container that comes standard with all of the extras. I have researched prices (with options), and the wings containers are still much less expensive. If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  10. Yes, I have looked at several other manufacturers. My biggest attraction to the wings containers are the price, and comfort. If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  11. Hey guys, I am preparing to buy my first rig, and have been considering purchasing a wings container. While reading about the wings I realized that they do not offer a the skyhook as an option. Should this stop me from buying a wings container? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  12. Thanks, I wasn't sure which one would be the most appropriate to post in! If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  13. I am a student at Western Illinois University, and I was wondering if there were any experienced jumpers in the area. I know its a long shot, but I figured this was the best place to start looking! Any help would be greatly appreciated. If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  14. Dont forget the first chop.. Plus a bottle for your rigger If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  15. I was referring to comments about the she safety of the DZ. I don't think that there are too many people who will argue that Ottawa is an exciting town... If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  16. (that being twenty-four cans or bottles holding twelve or more ounces of beer, ale, or some similar such substance)... Lol that was part of my brief from the DZO when i got cleared for self supervision.... However, my only choice at that DZ was bud light. If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  17. I recently set up a trip to sdc for some members of the veterans club at my school, and I had several people (Never even seen a dz) say that they would go if we werent going to sdc. I have also heard this from several other people who were interested in making a first skydive. I dont know where they are getting this information from, but i would like to have statistics to steer them back on the right track..... And possibly get hooked If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  18. lol ok, i know what you are talking about.. I dont see a problem with it.. Just dont call it a first, it is the time before your second. If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  19. Like I said, I have been jumping there for less than a year, but I have not seen or heard about anything that would make me question their safety standards. If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  20. What do you mean by that? Every time i have gone for a beer after jumping, the person asked me if im done for the day, and reminds me that i cant drink in the hanger. I don't see how they could enforce it any more than that If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  21. Recently, I have been hearing a lot of people making negative comments about the safety record at SDC. I have not been around the sport for very long, but from everything i have seen at the dz, they are a very professional and safety oriented dz. Correct me if I'm wrong, but until the incident that occured on sunday, there hasn't been a fatality at SDC since 2003? Is there anyone out there who would be able to give me some info on this subject so I can educate people who are afraid to jump because of hearsay? If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  22. Scott wasn't wearing a bailout rig. If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  23. Scott was an amazing friend, father, and fiancee. I am so grateful that i got to know him. I am so happy that i was able to make one last jump with him last weekend. I can not say enough about him, and he will be missed by everyone who knew him! If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
  24. ***I am not trying to step out of my a license box here*** I have heard a lot about the benefits of taking a canopy course, but as a student, who is struggling just to make a few jumps a month, taking one of these courses is out of the question. At the beginning of the year, Raeford did a full day of canopy skills for their monthly jump club event. If you aren't familiar with Jump club, it is a monthly event where experienced jumpers donate their time to teach inexperienced jumpers different skills to help them progress in the sport. My question is.... How feasible would it be to do something like this at other dropzones? I understand that many people might not want to spend their saturday giving free coaching, but this would be great to help broke new jumpers (like me) become safer in the sky. If its called free fall then why the hell is it so expensive?
