  2. Oh yes! Without ever being caught during the actual theft, with chocolate stained teeth, cnady wrappers in inappropriate (guilty) places....both kids know exactly where to point the finger. Denial is my friend. They don't buy it! I actually think they must have some sort of new candy accounting app, because i can lift the most obscure piece of candy amonst the proverbial needle in a haystack mound of candy and still get busted. Still worth the going in stealth mode mode to score a few goodies.
  3. Please forgive my ignorance, but are we talking about wearout mech as in 'flux capacitor' or by what fate could a 40 repack reserve have in store for a jumper? I might suspect an unknowing pending issue from 40+ main repacks from a noob like myself...i.e. possibly falling in the habit of doing something wrong and not knowing what to look for, but reserves are packed by qualified riggers. I think that would be the point of inspection for any obvious issues. How thorugh would PD check these reserves and what swould be done? Where is my thought process off?
  4. As a new jumper on #23 looking through the classifieds everyday for a first rig, I'm somewhat curious about the reserve ride #’s. Why would it make a difference whether the reserve was deployed zero, once, or whatever the case may be? I wouldn’t think the reserve would have a shelf life or only good for ___ rides. What gives?
  5. In my case, I paid upfront for a 'license in a week" course that required 2 tandems before progressing to solo/instructor jumps. After 2 tandems in as many hours, I was seriously worried that motion sickness may be the one thing that keeps me out of something I've wanted to do for over 15yrs. I reluctantly went down the road of explaining to my wife about all the upfront $$$ i just dropped and ....."what have I done!!??" This was very discouraging as I’ve never had motion sickness before. My 1st tandem made me feel somewhat sick and the 2nd made my stomach churn for hours. The next day I started my STP/AFF program with 6 jumps and have never looked back. Never once felt any motion sickness and I'm now at 21 jumps. I took dramamine the first day of instructor jumps and although it may have helped, I knew it couldn't hurt...just in case. Looking back on it now, I attribute the motion sickness to the tandem ride, no breakfast, and probably an overdose of adrenaline. If you have similar aspirations to keep jumping, take some dramamine and go for it! I’m glad I didn’t let this first experience keep me from living my dreams. Take care and take flight.
  6. Probably not what you thought...but I finally 'BIT THE BULLET' and will start my AFF training this thursday. I will be at Spaceland for the week, and with weather and ability permitting, should have my A license in short order. Thanks to those who have labored through some elemetary questions and have replied numerous times to PM's. The direction has helped tremendously. See ya in the skies real soon! Take care and take flight, Joe
  7. WOW! As a newcomer to skydiving also, I posted a simple observation and certainly didn't get the impression that any one response was elitist. I interpreted shah269's response, regardless of his skydiving aptitude, as rather benign and surely seems to be a generic statement which applies to the choices we all make pursuing any hobby/sport. Unfortunately, it seems like the DROPZONE forum can become just like any other...feeling the need to post something negative as opposed to just not wasting their time with a reply. I guess I missed whatever put someone’s panties in a wad. I will say that this forum is a breath of fresh air compared to many other hobby/sport forums I regularly frequent.
  8. funny...I have 3.....wife & 2 daughters ( 1-17yr, 1-14yr ). Actually, I may not have thought about it enough as I think the 17 yr old will retain driving privledges with my old 93 full size Ford Bronco instead of the auto hints shes been dropping lately i.e. 2007 Ultima with 'low mileage' and ONLY '$$$$$$$'or. Where do these kids come up with this---i know, i know---i did the same thing! Seems awful selfish but its a tank and I need to keep her safe
  9. JohnDerre, I think it will be Spaceland..nothing in stone at this point...but SOON...REAL SOON
  10. So…I’m about to pull the trigger within the next month to get my A license - AFF style. I would like to know if the following is a common scenario to all…especially before actually getting the first jump in. I find myself purchasing random items ( non skydive related ) and starting to question / justify the purchase because I start thinking in terms of the number of jumps I would be sacrificing. I would suspect this may be common for a seasoned skydiver, but I feel as though I’ve just ruined the pleasure in purchasing just about anything at this point. Have I lost it already, before i even start, or are my priorities finally coming into focus? Can’t wait.
  11. I'm entertaining the thought of getting my 'A' license...actually, i've entertained the thought for over a decade and now I'm ready to take the plunge! I have a small list of questions I plan to ask when calling for information at a few DZ's in an attempt to decide which would better suite me. Not being introduced to the sport (other than a single tandem jump in '96), I'm sure there are numourous questions I haven't thought of that may prove beneficial before selecting a site. I'm sure they all have qualities worthy of attending their jump course, but I'm looking for the one that seems to have an edge. I'm asking what type of questions would you suggest to help differentiate the the DZ's. I'm interested in an AFF course and getting through a program ASAP. I know one of the Houston based operations has a 'License in a week package' which sounds great. One other thing...I'm not trying to pit one DZ against the another, but rather trying to arm myself with a reasonably intelligent conversation without hanging up the phone only to later realize I want/need further info. Thanks, Joe Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.
