  1. H guys, I ended up visiting both DZs & jumping at one. Abbotsford, well, I wasn't impressed on a midweek drop-in to say hi. I wasn't made to feel all that welcome, so I googled the Pitts Meadow one & went there yesterday. Weather was awesome, a good 25 degrees celsius, stunning scenery, okay so it was a 205 instead of a Porter but I did 3 awesome jumps with awesome people & was made to feel very welcome. There was no issue in signing up for USPA or CSPA, they accepted my BPA membership no problem. Thanks for your advice! UK skydiver moving to British Columbia in early 2011 - any recommendations?
  2. I'm off to British Columbia next week & thinking whether to take my rig or not. Do I need to join the CSPA in order to jump there? Is it going to be expensive? Any recommendations for places to jump, I'm staying in Abbotsford most of the time, hear there is a place near there to jump. 3. I first visited Tilstock in Summer 2009 with a friend, we both had around 40 jumps & as soon as we said we were looking to jump, the staff could not have been friendlier & more accomodating to us. We were manifested on the next available load, paired up in 2 ways & soon we were soaring above the beautiful Shropshire & Welsh counties, with views of Snowdon, Liverpool & the coast at full altitude. We're now both regulars & it just keeps getting better & better. They have a new & younger CCI who actively encourages student progression & will put up experienced jumper loads instead of sidelining us for more profitable tandems. The DZ has a very relaxed atmosphere & the social scene is starting to become the stuff of legends!! There is always someone to jump with, FF or FS, and coaching is free, just pay your slot. The planes are currently an Airvan & 206, with another 206, (but turbined) arriving any day, to take the altitude from 10,000 to 12,500ft. The DZO goes out of his way to keep everyone happy & there's a big BBQ nearly every Sat night & always plenty of free beer from that weeks beer fines. There is a free bunkhouse & camping & the onsite packer Andy has got to be the fastest packer around!! I highly recommend Tilstock if you want a fun and chilled day doing all sorts of unusual jumps with likeminded people.
  4. "If you don't wear goggles, will your eyes get ripped out?" "Can you land on your house if you want?" These aren't annoying, more funny & kinda genuine questions if you don't know the answer. I was asked both of these on Sunday by a random person. I remember a student on my AFF course being convinced that you could drown if you fell through a cloud. 5. +1. Very astounding! My grandad says to me "when are you going to stop jumping out of planes? You've done it once, you don't need to keep doing it" - and he's an ex-para! UK skydiver moving to British Columbia in early 2011 - any recommendations?

  10. Yes I'd heard Newfie was great for people, views and rain. I certainly want to visit it for a couple of months & see where I was gonna live & do some climbing in Gros Morne. I've done quite a bit of exploring round BC & Alberta but that was before I was a skydiver so never visited any dropzones. Got family in Kamloops, Mission & Vancouver so it's a pretty big safety net. Just searching for a job to get me through at the start then travel around. Thanks Doog. UK skydiver moving to British Columbia in early 2011 - any recommendations?
  11. Looking at the Canadian websites, Pacific Skydivers does look pretty nice. I'll start with them when I get there :) UK skydiver moving to British Columbia in early 2011 - any recommendations?
  12. Hi there, this is a hello and also a request for advice! I'm emigrating to British Columbia early next year (~March) from the UK. I've currently got about 50 jumps & B licence but hope to have 75-80 by the time I leave, along with FS1 & FF1. The plan is to just get a flight and stay with my younger brother, I think he lives near Abbotsford, and get a job of sorts & skydive lots, in fact if I could set up my tent & pack & jump on a DZ, that would be heaven. Can any of you recommend any good places to go skydiving in B.C/Canada. It's a permanent emigration as I've got dual nationality (UK/Can) so I do want to do a bit of travelling before putting some roots down somewhere. I've had my own business in the UK since I was 19, I'm 27 now, so I'm looking to have some fun for a bit as the business is kinda dwindling away to nothing. I was planning on moving to Corner Brook in Newfie last April 2009 but the person I was moving with changed his mind, which put me back a bit!! And of course, no DZs there! If anyone's got any tips or advice, it'd be great to hear it. Hannah. UK skydiver moving to British Columbia in early 2011 - any recommendations?
