Ratings and Rigging

  • Pro Rating
    Yes
  1. Last month I went on my first tracking dive. When I checked my Protrack it posted a max. speed of 178 mph. Is this accurate? Could the Protrack register the forward speed or is this a miss reading due to a burrble or other interference?
  2. I'm going to Florida next month and I need to send my rig down there to get the reserve repacked. What's the best way to pack it and who to ship it with?
  3. Don't get me wrong~~~ Jumping is still jumping. My question is about the people who are "unimpressed" with your jump numbers. I know people who have 7 jumps and people who have 700 jumps...both are great people. Character is the difference... And I'm not talking about their jump ##.
  4. I had a fello jumper ask how many jumps I had the other day. 72 I said. "Oh, that's nice." When does jump numbers substitue character or ability as a skydiver or a person? If you're great in the sky but a dick on the ground.....I don't think I want to jump with you.
  5. When I made my first jump I weighed 283 lbs.. Of course my tandem master was the smallest one they could find but it all worked out. Now I'm 260 lbs. and 70 jumps later and I have a 230 ft. main canopy. So, yes, it is safe to jump when you're that big. Just voice any and all of your concerns to your instructor...and pick a good nickname.
  6. I'm curious about what's it like to live on a dropzone, for all of those people living at one. Mostly what are you doing when you're not jumping. Also, how much are you jumping? And how do you afford it?
  7. Any skydivers that live in chicago? Just curious as to how many city dwellers there are.
  8. I could be moving to the LA area next fall and I want to know where the best place is to jump at (low-time jumper here). Plus, how far and how hard to get to the DZ from LA.
  9. I've just seen the website for speed diving. It doesn't sound like there is alot of interest here in the US but mostly in Europe. Has anyone entered a speed competition or even just jumped for the fastest speed?
  10. Here's a question....Do you see skydiving where ever you are? Like the other day I was workingout and I walked by this woman on a treadmill reading a magazine. I glanced as she was turning the page and I saw in big red letters "SABRE2". When did PD start advertising in Glamore? I see and hear stuff like this all the time. In bars, out eating dinner, anywhere. So, does this happen to anyone else?
  11. Just how big are you? I'm referring to height and weight only.
  12. I've been told that you can spread a hour, doing two minute chunks, over a three or four hour period. I know 2 hours seems like alot but I just want this summer to be a kick-ass one.
  13. I'm a fairly new jumper (70 jumps) and I want to use the wind tunnel to develop some solid basic skills. So this spring I'm planning to head down to the wind tunnel in Orlando. With the help of a coach and about two hours I'm hoping to come back a better flyer. My question; Is it physically possible to do a full hour in the tunnel in a day? I plan on one hour a day for two days. It's been suggested that I split up the time with other people but if I'm going to travel all the way to the SE then I want to get as much time in as possible.
  14. I'm looking for bigger guys to jump with. At 6'6" and an exit weight of 295 lbs., I spend alot of time looking up at my fellow jumpers. Yes, I have the big clownsuit to wear. So if you are going to be at Skydive Chicago this summer please let me know. [email protected]
  15. I live in Chicago, a great city, and I have alot of my wants and needs satisfied. But the one thing that gets me is that I dream about skydiving!! I dream about freefall, I dream about malfunctions and how to deal, I dream about my landings, and I dream about the people I've met while skydiving...going headdown. My point being.....the money may be great in the city but if you're wanting to be at 13,000 ft. ....is shopping at IKEA really that important? Maybe not.
