  1. I'd have to agree. I'm debating setting up http://skydivingmovies.net/ with the same format as the old .com (more file storage oriented than streaming-video based). I've mentioned this in the past as an addition for http://SkyTu.be but people didn't seem too excited about donating towards operating expenses. I have plenty of server and network resources to make it happen, but this economy is tough. A site of that size and traffic requires more than a value hosting "Unlimited" plan for 10 bucks a month, unfortunately. For a file storage site, you need at least a mid-range VPS or entry level dedicated machine, possibly more depending on a variety of factors. So, should I just setup the file storage site with different levels of free and paid membership? If we can all agree that this is something that is needed, I'll pony up the time and servers to get it all setup on the .net
  2. Thanks for the support virgin-burner and everyone else promoting http://SkyTu.be! I thought I'd wander over and chime in on some recent progress with the website. There's been a lot happening at http://SkyTu.be the past few months. With strong growth every month, we burned through a little over 200gb of bandwidth last month alone, it's clear we're doing something right. Some of you may have noticed the previous site upgrade affected some site functionality. We've fixed all the rough edges and are happy to announce everything is online, fast, and working great! Check out the new site design! http://SkyTu.be There were a few suggestive remarks from friends using the site mentioning the occasional quality loss when uploading a video, common with video sharing sites. During the process of converting the avi/mov/mpg/etc file you're uploading to FLV (flash video) the video is recompressed and usually a bit on the conservative side for sake of bandwidth. This would result in slightly granular video every once in a while but it saves a ton of bandwidth consumption overall. Well, the bandwidth happy guy I am, I've decided the extra quality is worth it. All newly uploaded videos will be re-encoded at a higher quality setting than before, and I may be bumping it up again, or offering HD in the short future. Also, just throwing this out there to see what you guys think. As I've said since day one, this is pretty much what you guys want to see it be. I have the resources to make it happen, so why not? I'm debating setting up a file manager section like SkyDivingMovies had for people that want raw file storage for their original skydiving videos. Free accounts on the file storage would be capped at a reasonable amount of disk space. As some of you mentioned, possibly a small "premium member" subscription for larger quotas. Interested in helping out? Get ahold of me! [email protected] Be sure to check out the new re-design and recent improvements! http://SkyTu.be Happy Holidays! - Chase
  3. Oh ok, it seemed with the lack of communication (I've emailed you several times and never heard back) I got the feeling you were holding out for the highest bidder. Glad to hear you'll be bringing it back in full swing without a ton of advertising. So, to be clear.. you DO still have ownership/control of the domain? It appeared it had expired and Craig had recently snatched it up. But, obviously he is a friend of yours? Or, the guy working on the site with you? Any timeline on when the new site will be launching? I receive a lot of mail at SkyTube regarding the topic, I think everyone would appreciate a little heads up. Thanks!
  4. Big project? I could've had it done weeks ago. I offered free development and hosting for the entire project, for the Skydiving community. I don't make any money off of http://SkyTu.be, it's not blasted with retarded ads (its got a couple of links to my other forums or friends' blogs), and it's already a functioning new version of exactly what several people are scrambling to create. It's a shame that it seems like skydivingmovies.com is being circled by the sharks. I hope it doesn't get killed by the obvious greed.
  5. Lol not to make you sound old but this is almost identical to MY dads list of cars through out the years Witch half of them we still own
  6. No problemo! Definitely a much needed feature, glad you brought it up.
  7. There is currently the ability to mark videos as Private where only you can view them. I'll look into allowing access exclusively to friends, or password protecting the private videos. Definitely a feature that will be added in the near future. Update: Added! Instead of a PIN, you'll have to use the exact link to the video. A much simpler solution than a uniquely generated pin for each private video, but I don't really expect people to be uploading stuff to a public site that needs to remain 100% private. Videos marked "Private" won't show up in the general index of the site and you will have to send someone the exact url of the video for them to access it. Example of a private video: http://skytu.be/play.php?vid=397
  8. There is now! http://skytu.be/rss.php I'll be revamping the entire site soon and uploading several collections people are in the process of sending me. Glad to see a lot of you on there! http://skytu.be/ is also going to be in the upcoming Blue Skies Magazine, look for it!
  9. Congrats! That's definitely good news.
  10. LOL! For comparison, here's the dedicated rack setup for SkyTu.be so far.. Pull the drive... then take it for a dive!
  11. Just sent Dave a PM, I'll let you guys know what he says! :)
  12. It's Pilotdave. Here is his profile. Get it up and running and you won't be considered a Noob for long. Thanks, I'll try emailing him today and see what he says. Both the flash frontend site (http:skytu.be) and the torrent section are live and running, so I guess my n00b status is quickly disappearing over here! haha If you guys want to start uploading videos on the torrent tracker and start seeding out, that'd be great. I've got two seeding right now just to test the functionality and everything seems to be working great. http://skytu.be/torrents/details.php?id=2 http://skytu.be/torrents/details.php?id=3
  13. Done. http://skytu.be/torrents/index.php For those of you that want the torrents, there you go!
  14. Yeah, the 150mb was just a temp limit. There is no upload limit on each account. I just bumped the max "filesize" up to 500mb for now. I doubt anyone will be uploading videos larger than that? If we need to though, I can bump it up at anytime. http://Skytu.be is on a 100mbit pipe with over 500gb of raided storage right now, and I can throw more at it whenever we need. That's one of the perks of running a privately owned Web Hosting company. Whatever we need, we've got. If there was some way we could get the old files from Skydivingmovies I'd be willing to spend a few days organizing and uploading them to the new site. Just let me know if anyone has these type of connections! I'll try to get ahold of the Skydivingmovies guy but I'm a total n00b around here.
  15. http://skytu.be I would definitely check out Skytu.be as it has no upload limits, is super fast, reliable, and will not be going anywhere anytime soon. If anyone is interested in uploading large collections of Skydiving videos to the http://skytu.be website, feel free to PM or email me or Skygoonie and we'll arrange this. Hope to see you guys on there!
