  1. From the same article:

Shawna Cox, a mother of 12 and grandmother of 43, has been friends with the Bundy family for about 15 years, Donald Cox said.

"She's a cowgirl," he said. "She's a patriot. This is all about her constitutional rights."

Unbelievable, she has 43 grandchildren and she decided to throw her life away to go join these criminals. If you value your "rights" and your freedom why would you commit federal crimes and have your freedom taken away? It makes no sense.

  2. Add child abuse and reckless endangerment to the laundry list of crimes. I really feel sorry for these kids. I can understand now why the feds are proceeding with so much caution. This really is a hostage situation.

When this over I hope these scumbags get put away for a very long time. Cowards every one of them.

  3. Here is a picture of the Malhuer NWR. This is what those thugs want to destroy. You know, because of the constitution.
These wetlands are very rare in this arid part of the country and totally unsuitable for cattle grazing. The local cattle ranchers don't want this.

These out of state outlaws need to be brought to justice. Except for a few brain-dead meatheads nobody in Oregon wants them here.

  4. A letter from the employees of the Fish and Wildlife Service in Harney County:

    Malheur National Wildlife Refuge
    17 hrs ·
An open letter to our friends, our supporters, and many curious about what's going on here.

From: The Staff of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge
To: Our Friends, Partners, and the American Public

    Dear Friends,
Many have asked us to comment on the ongoing situation at Malheur NWR. We have refrained because we care deeply for the community, and want to ensure our words do not inflame an already heated situation. However, we believe it is important that our views and position are known.

We believe many in the media (as well as those sympathetic to the illegal occupiers) were surprised to hear that the community—while frustrated with the Hammond situation—did not leap to the support of the militants. We are not surprised.

For over 100 years, our Refuge employees have been members of this community. We study, watch our kids play basketball, worship, commune, and interact with our fellow Harney County citizens—not as a ‘we vs. they’—but as an ‘us.’

In a community with nearly 40% of working adults engaged in some form of government, we are all touched or involved in the public process. In Harney County, that means we talk. We have cups of coffee. We have arguments. Together we knit our brows, and together we knit scarves. We understand what those currently occupying the Refuge don’t understand---that Harney County isn’t afraid of tough talk.

We can have effective disagreements and either find resolution, find compromise, or simply agree to disagree. But we do it with respect for the rule of law, and know that our areas of agreement and cooperation are infinitely more powerful than the differences we may face. Mostly, we face those differences together with open dialogue and open gates—not intimidation and threats. We have access to each other, because we are not afraid to confront difficult situations or have difficult conversations.

It pains each of us that we are missing our obligations to you—as church leaders, as 4-H advisers, as friends, and as school volunteers. We hope to be back soon and pick up where we left off.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your support. We know (as you do too) that it is not our Refuge that has been occupied; this is Harney County’s and America’s Refuge.

We are excited to be part of the eventual healing process for our community. We believe that this difficult situation will lead to even stronger bonds between the Refuge and the community that has supported us. We feel for you, because we are you.

    We will get through this—because:
    We. Are. Harney. County.

It doesn't matter what you think - you're just another Crazy Canuk dumbfounded by the abundance of resources you've been given by the grace of God. . .and when it comes time, we'll happily take it from you as well.

Just keep sitting there on the lake shore gazing north at the promised land. You can't have it.

We don't need your cheap beer and loose women - even your Cubans are stale.

I just wanted to add that I grew up in Detroit. During my college years, I ran a business in my high-rise condo on the river overlooking Canada and the Ambassador Bridge. (Riverfront) What a shit-hole Canada was, scum - skank-ass prostitutes, cheap casinos and watered down beer. I pitied them as ambulances ran almost constantly across the bridge to Detroit to save them from their sorry-ass universal healthcare system...how pathetic.

Fuck Canada - just a bunch of selfish lazy liberals that have created absolute shit with the resources they have.

God knows why we didn't just take all of North America when we had the chance - hell, probably easier just to take it now while they're asleep.

Wow, do you even know what thread you are on?

The brothers have taken over the cozy and cluttered office of Linda Sue Beck, a biologist and civil servant they have come to view as a symbol the federal government. They said they would allow Beck to come to gather her personal belongings. But they don’t want her to return to work.

“She’s not here working for the people,” declared Ryan Bundy, the more outspoken of the brothers. “She’s not benefiting America. She’s part of what’s destroying America.”

He referred to her as the “Carp Lady,” a nod to the fish-themed block prints and “Carpe Carp” sign on her office walls.

Ammon Bundy sits at her desk with his laptop, making and taking call after call with journalists, supporters and local government officials. A birthday card, a book called “Fisheries Techniques” and other office adornments appear largely undisturbed, save for a spot on Beck’s desk cleared to make room for boxes of pizza and bullets. The protestors make coffee in an adjoining kitchenette that doubles as a science laboratory.

Linda Sue Beck and all the other employees that work for the Fish and Wildlife Service at Malhuer NWR are on paid administrative leave. US tax payers are paying their salaries to do nothing. This is a woman who went to college to become a wildlife biologist to follow her passion and serve our country to help preserve our natural heritage. She IS working for the people, she IS what is right with America.

This fucking meat head is in her office, sitting in her chair with his gun and rummaging through her work and personal belongings.

This is beyond ridiculous. I want that maggot arrested.

The government does not own the land, the people do. The agencies that manage the land like the US Forest Service, the BLM, The US Park Service, The Fish and Wildlife Service, the BIA, etc. are merely STEWARDS. They manage the land for multiple use and there is no way you are going to make everyone happy. This is all done in accordance with congress and perfectly legal under the constitution.

If you do not like the way we manage the land then you are free to protest, you can go through the political process, or even take it to court. But once you take up arms and threaten violence if you do not get your way then you become a criminal and your opinion means nothing.

  7. I am from the great state of Oregon and I was a wild land firefighter in the NW for over 24 years. I have been to Burns many times on fire assignments and I am very familiar with the area. The Malhuer NWR headquarters is an administrative building, a small office with a front desk with info and maps. There are offices with desks, computers, a lunch room with leftovers from the Christmas party, etc. Real tyrannical stuff.

They broke in on a Saturday when the place was closed up and locked for the weekend. Real brave. Why not march on the regional HQ at the federal building in Portland? Much easier to take over a lonely outpost in the middle of nowhere.

The people that work there will probably get some administrative leave. It would be weird to go to the office Monday morning when your office is being occupied by armed goons. So these idiots are preventing the locals from going to work and making a living.
The other building they are "taking over" is the Frenchglen guard station which is closed in the winter but is used as a fire station in the summer months. Why do they hate firefighters?

The hammonds were guilty and convicted by a jury of their peers. They committed intentional arson to cover up poaching and put firefighters at risk. If a firefighter had been killed working on the fire they would be guilty of murder. No sympathy for them at all.

The Bundy boys and their armed militia thugs are criminals and dangerous. We let them go last time and two of their members killed two police officers. They are not wanted in Oregon and they must be brought to justice.

Can you imagine if a group of armed Muslims broke into a public building and took it over and started making demands? How would that go?

Burns is a small town and the federal government is the largest employer. Half the people in the town work for the US Forest Service, the BLM, and the Fish and Wildlife service. Every local has at least one family member working and making a living that way. Are they trying to split families apart and start a small scale civil war? It does not make any sense at all.

We appeased these terrorists before and that did not work. I hope for a peaceful resolution here but you can not just "let them go" They have to be arrested and prosecuted.

I believe 2016 is going to be nightmarish.

What a horrible thing to say.

I believe 2016 is going to be AWESOME! Just like 2015, and 2014 and pretty much every year I have been alive. There were a few rough years in my youth but that was mostly self-inflicted.

You doom and gloom guys really need to enjoy the life you already have instead of wringing your hands over the life you think you might get after you die. One is a sure thing, the other is just fantasy.

Jesus taught us to heal the sick, feed the poor, and turn the other cheek. Your mantra is screw the sick, to hell with the poor, and buy more ammo.

I don't really have any problem with the "buy more ammo" part but that is because I am not a Christian.

National's canopies are allowed to be packed past the 20 year point. National nowadays says they may not, and many riggers may choose to follow the manufacturer's advice as a sort of "best practice". The FAA however has stated that unless the canopy was certified with an age limit, or the manufacturer gets the FAA to issue an Airworthiness Directive {edit: corrected from my typing 'Bulletin' instead}, a canopy sold without an age limit does not have to comply with a limit set later. (The FAA's guidance is arguably unclear whether the limit does exist if they added it to a manual that came with the parachute when it was first sold. I can't recall when National first started putting it in manuals.)

    Peter,
According to the FAA, time limits are to be addressed at the time of initial TSO certification to be valid.

National is still manufacturing parachutes under the same old TSO from years ago that never had a time limit. The only thing that has changed at National is their manual.

With that said and understood, there are not any National parachutes out there that have a 20 year time limit according to the FAA.

    MEL

The same is true with softies (Paraphernalia) I have an F.A.A letter somewhere that states they can not impose life limits because none where stated under the original TSO. When we contacted the manufacturer they told us that the 20 year limit was just a "recommendation" and not really enforceable by law. So you have two options as a rigger, you can refuse to pack a 20 year old softie because of the manufacturers "recommendation" Or you can go ahead and pack it because technically it is perfectly legal to do so as interpreted by the F.A.A.

    Time for Compliance:
    (1) For equipment in which the cutter is located above the
pilot chute, compliance is MANDATORY, PRIOR TO THE NEXT JUMP.

Anyone with a list of containers with the cutter located above the PC?
I can think of Mirage, Icon, Infinity...
    What else ? :S

Any guesses on why it is more critical when the cutter is located above the PC?

The Infinity before 2009 had the cutter below the PC, it was relocated to the top of the PC after that. I prefer the older version.

  11. This is totally un-related but if I would have turned in my paperwork on time I would also have a 4 digit D-license number.

Also, are you the guy that kept saying the world was going to end a few years ago?

  12. I currently have 4 containers/reserves and 5 mains. My favorite rig of them all was made in '97 with a 92 PD reserve. The main was made in 2008.

Not a whole lot of difference in rigs made in the late 90s and early 2000s.

I also have a very comfortable rig made in the early 90s but I rebuilt it with magnetic riser covers, new tuck tabs, new boc, etc. it also has new risers, new PC, etc. So older rigs can be updated.

Talk to your rigger. hopefully an old guy.

  13. Yes, it has happened before. The 3 ring system has been around for a long time. I have seen the coating on older cables get brittle and crack, then if you flex the cable back and forth you could get it to split completely, seperate, and slide down the cable. These were always grounded once any cracks were found.
The only time I have seen the coating on cutaway cables crack or split was on the older clear or red coated cables. (even some home made blue ones) I have never seen this happen with modern yellow cables.

I have honestly not serviced or even seen a rig with clear or red cutaway cables in years, even on Racers (pretty rare around here) If you still have these on your rig I would get a new handle with the yellow industry standard cables.
