After 12 AFF jumps, I graduated today :) :) :) Along with that, I did a hop n pop, and two other solo's. It's too bad you can't buy beer in Indiana on Sundays :( The DZ owner made sure to tell me I owed them a case of budlight next weekend :)

Thank you to everyone who responded to my "bad arch" post a month ago. I eventually made it through after some tunnel time and the rest of AFF was great!

Yeah no kidding. Probably more like 12 dollars per minute. I paid 550 for 30 minutes at the tunnel in Raeford, NC.

Awesome!!! Sounds very much like my recent tunnel story. I passed D2 and E1 yesterday ... E1 was pretty cool, barrel rolls were fun!

The tunnel was like magic for my body position. I did two 1 instructor cat c's ... failed them both because I wasn't arching. Took a trip to NC the following week and spent 30 minutes in the tunnel in Raeford with a coach ... jumped the next day and I was totally amazed. My instructor finally let go of me in free fall ... much to my surprise, I was able to remain stable and keep a heading.

Yeah ... It felt much different than freefall ... It sure worked though. I've made another jump since and my body position issues were all worked out :) YAY!!!

Yes ... I can arch on the ground just fine. It very well may be a mental thing. As far as practicing at home ... I've been doing it every day for a month. Tomorrow is my trip to the tunnel. I think if I can get a feel for it in the tunnel, it may be easier for me to do it in the air. I don't think I'm totally forgetting about it in the air because I recall thinking about it and hoping that it's being done correctly ... Then I get to the ground and am told that my arch is still not good.

My next jump will be my third attempt at C2 ... Grrr :) My entire problem is my arch. Everything else is great ... well nothing is great if you can't arch, but that is my main issue. I'm taking a trip to NC tomorrow to spend some time with a coach in a wind tunnel. Hopefully I'll be able to get a feel for how it should be done.

The only skydiving dreams I ever have are falling on my back and not being able to flip over :(

I made two more jumps this past weekend. Two 1 instructor CAT C's and failed both because I couldn't seem to arch. More frustration :) Not sure if I'm going to give it another shot this weekend or sit it out, but I have made plans to take a trip to NC and spend some time in the wind tunnel with a coach on the 1st of Aug. ... I'm hoping this will help, because it sure isn't cheap :)

What I'm seeing is that your knees are VERY wide. I also noticed instructors on at least one occasion signaling you to put your knees shoulder width (bring them closer together). It is impossible to arch with your legs spread that far. It creates an automatic DE-arch which puts your knees below you as is shown in the video. This is creating a major instability issue.

Please review this with your instructors in more detail but in my opinion the first thing you need to do is to bring your legs closer together, then you can put your hip bone down and extend your toes. Until you fix the knees being so wide the “arch” issue is not possible to fix.

BTW: a wind tunnel helped me resolve me body issues when I was in AFF.

Yes ... Jay has been with me for every aff jump thus far and he has been great. He is a pretty amazing person.

Since you've mentioned it ... I do always seem to feel like my legs are spread too far apart.

The wind tunnel also sounds like a fabulous idea. I think it would be worth the investment for me to spend a weekend in NC.

They told me to continue to practice on the floor at home, which I will continue to do. I just thought I would have shown some improvement after doing it for two weeks.

By the way ... you're the second person who has mentioned downloading something. It's a microsoft silverlight browser plugin. It isn't as if you're downloading something that only gives you the ability to watch my videos.

I just entered the AFF program at the beginning of June ... My next jump is a Cat C with one instructor. My Cat B jump wasn't that great in terms of arching my body and yesterday I did a Cat C with two instructors and had the same problem. There were two weeks between the Cat B and Cat C that I practiced the arch at home every night on the floor and standing in a door way per my instructors advice. I feel like I worked really hard at practice arching and thought it would pay off ... but ... It didn't seem to pay off as much as I expected it to. Yesterday during the 2 instructor Cat C, I still had the same issues. I've been told that the upper body portion of the arch is progressing, but something is stopping me from getting my pelvis in the position that it needs to be in and I'm not sure what that is. I'm 24 years old, in good shape, and I feel like I should have the ability to do this ... I'm just at a loss for what to do next. I'll continue practice arching this week and jump again on Saturday. I just wish I knew or felt as if I'm still on the path to fixing the problem. I have video of each jump thus far on my website if anyone wants to check out the body position and comment on it. Thanks for your help!

I like my tennis shoes, but I did lose one on my first tandem jump last year. Very interesting how it flew right off my foot upon aircraft exit :) Now I tie those things up extra tight.

Use DVD Decryptor in "IFO" mode to rip the dvd into one VOB. You can then import the vob into something like auto gk to convert to an avi file. Works great!
