After some scoring rule clarifications there is one update to overall standings Bryan Moffett 2nd place Todd Spillers 3rd place All other places remained the same. Some points did change and will be noted in the next day or 2. I am not totally useless, I can be used as a bad example.

Meet #1 was awesome. The DZ did a great job preparing for the event. There were 8 competitors and around 70 spectators. The practice day was hindered by winds but late in the day the winds calmed down and TJ Landgren was on hand to critique landings. Competition load #1 was off the ground at 9:50 am and all most jumps were completed by 3pm. There was one malfunction on the last round so 1 jumper had a rejump and was completed around 3:15pm. All competetitors were more controlled this year and this looks to be an interesting and competitve season. A few people were hindered by verticles or the results would have been very different. Reading through all of this I will finally chime in. As a Tandem IE (and course director) with 1200+ tandems. I do think there is an advantage to a LITTLE added speed. Wtih proper technique it is easy on newer systems (harnesses out for 8 or so years now) to keep the students feet much higher than the instructors on landing. I don't see anything wrong with an experienced Tandem Instructor doing a gentle turn (90 or less). to add speed. I am not talking about a whip turn. I personally prefer the breake/surge technique but choose a turn larger than 90 in very high winds from time to time. There is no rule against how you land the tandem, but some comon sense should apply. I know good instructors that do agressive turns on tandem landing very well. I don't like it, but they are very good at it. Just like watching great swoopers, the biggest problem seems to be the less experienced jumper see how easy it looks and thinking they can handle it (and do a few times). My 1 cent (not worth 2) Todd I am not totally useless, I can be used as a bad example.

The first meet for the TX CPC will be at Skydive Aggieland April 8-9. This will be our seasonal opener. We are working on a catered meal. TJ Landgren will provide free coaching to the competitors on the Saturday practice. Come to the meet and see what is happening this year. We have prizes, easier eligibility to go to CO to compete for big money, Coaching practice days, at least 3 meets over water, and all new enthusiasm. Hope to see everyone there. At this point I will just say thanks to everyone. I am in CO now and already made 1 jump. I was on the plane a little after 8 this morning. I am very exhausted. Maybe 1 more jump in me today, then the mandatory meeting this evening and then I am going to crash and sleep in some tomorrow. I know I wouldn't remember everyone I want to thank right now. I do want to give a special thanks to the staff, volunteers, and jumpers that helped with their time and work. Later until I have some rest.
