yeah dubai is kinda tanish. can you imagine trying to spot a halo load into a sea of nothing but that w/o the coastline or any landmarks at all? yikes. . I bet those guys thank gps on every load.

Yep, that's Dubai... they hosted the German national record there a few years back. The company that makes the Cypres, used the formation pics of that record in their advertisements.

Well, an exit shot at least.

I'm Vector rated that dosnt make it safe for me to go jump a Strong rig or vice versa. So a manufacturer's rating is needed.

No, what's need is a type rating. Don't necessarily need a manufacturer to issue that.

    12/26/1998 Maricopa, AZ FFCOL 60 1 Y/Y

Description: An experienced jumper gave his mother a tandem for Christmas. He filmed it. At pull time he found himself "next to the drogue". He hit the deploying main and became wrapped in it. He worked his way out of the mess but snagged a line with his foot. As he fell clear, the line broke and he hit the Tandem pair. He continued in freefall and deployed his main. He landed safely. The tandem master and possibly the passenger were knocked out. The tandem slowly spun into the ground. The Tandem Master is alive and in the hospital. The passenger (mother) was killed.

This is a first of a kind event...an all men 100 - 125-way in support of the 2009 Jump for the Cause.

The Mens World Record will be held simultaneously with Jump for the Cause at Skydive Perris located in Perris, California USA.

The Organizing Team members are Jason Russell, Randy Garman and Larry Henderson. Team Captains will be Larry Henderson, BJ Worth, Tom Jenkins and Roger Ponce de Leon.

The estimated cost of the event is USD $975. If fuel costs increase unexpectedly, there will be an additonal fuel surcharge.

Most of the jumps will be from 16.5K with oxygen.

The men's event is being organized at the request of the JFTC Organizing Committee, but we will be in a support role. The women's event has priority in terms of aircraft, meeting/debrief locations and food. We will share the parties, the good vibes and the prizes.

If you are interested in participating, please go to http://www.bigways.com and log on using your Last Name as your UserID and your D number (or foreign equivalent) without the D- as your Password.

Please edit your personal data after you are logged into the system. The organiers have added the question "Is your significant other participating in the JFTC?". Please answer the question and update any other info as necessary.

    Thanks for supporting JFTC.

    Blues,

    Jim Alkek
    On behalf of the Organizers

    Judging will be tricky

This is the crux. No judging means no scoring means no competition.

2.2. Assigned Slot: consists of wingsuit jumper flying with their body in position defined by dive pool, and no distance greater than twelve inches (12”) from assigned position

How will this practically be done? I forsee some great motion tracking automated judging system that can calculate distances based on the height and width of recognised flockers. Either that or judges with rulers against screens showing paused video! :S

I do use it. I never said I wouldn´t. Using it doesnt mean you would be logged in automatically. It only means the the username and password are auto-filled. It still takes those staggering 1,5 seconds to move your cursor over the "log in" button and press it. :P

There was me thinking you were a really fast typist and now I just think you are a really slow mouse scroller and button clicker! :P

  7. The Hypeye is able to retrieve zoom settings, although this is disabled by default. If you are using one of the really wide-angle lens <= 0.3x a lot of cameras require manual focusing otherwise it is blurry. Is it possible the zoom setting has somehow been enabled and is setting the zoome causing it to blur when you plug the Hypeye in?

Manual available here. Zoom settings are on page 3.

  8. Works for me. I wonder if it's a regional thing (I'm in the UK). It's funny; I just sent a Google video link to someone and they get the same message (makes me wonder region issue again?)

Are there any, or what are the security issues that would need to be considered?

I understand that there really is no 100% guarantee, but if a professional photographer stored their originals in a fashion such as this what are the chances of someone else gaining access to them.

Minimal. All files are encrypted (on the S3 based systems at least) and all services require username/passwords to log in and files are generally not publically available unless specifically shared.

  10. I wonder if online storage will be viable/cost effective?

I currently use 5GB of free space on SkyDrive to store all my personal favourite pictures. GMail currently has 7GB of storage and Google Pictures has 1GB for free. There are lots of online storage services that use Amazon S3 services which are pretty cheap. Amazon S3 (write it yourself) charges 15 cents per GB of storage and JungleDisk, one of the consumer services based on it charges the same amount. The underlying services are based on massive redundant arrays in multiple datacenters so you only need to upload it once and it should be safe. So you can have 100 GB of storage for $15 a month. How much is spent on buying/renewing hard drives and media? One downside is if Amazon does titsup, the data could be lost, but that's fairly unlikey.

So are free/paid services a viable alternative to local physical media?
