  1. I know it's a good distance but The Oklahoma Skydiving Center in Cushing Oklahoma allows it. I have a 16 year old daughter currently in the AFF program. She's having a blast! So am I! Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  2. Just talked with Jack today and the date for Mullins in Cushing is May 5th and 6th. Hope to see you there!! Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  3. I dive at the Oklahoma Skydiving Center in Cushing. Where will you dive from? Maybe I'll see you around. Welcome to the forums! Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  4. My faith says that GOD is absolutely right. Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  5. AMEN!! I'm just a newbie but I've learned a few things: 1. There's no such thing as a perfectly good airplane. 2. Be able to take criticism and praise. 3. NEVER STOP LEARNING!! (sorry that's the teacher in me talking) Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  6. I bought my daughter a skydive for her 16th Birthday. She has 2 AFF jumps under her belt. We jump at the Oklahoma Skydiving Center in Cushing Oklahoma. It's a great little DZ. 918-225-2222. www.okskydive.com I'm really pleased with the training. Legalities aside...my daughter could die in a car crash on the way home from school. Life's an adventure and we're taking part in it. Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  7. It's a great way to celebrate! I have a 16 year old daughter with three jumps (one tandem and 2 AFF's). Her first jump was for her birthday. She's hooked. We're (I'm now jumping my 3rd AFF) heading out Saturday to jump. It's great fun! We're thinking about you and your son here in Oklahoma. Have a great time!! Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  8. I'm in Tulsa right now and it's 40 degrees. We're finally getting the ice removed from the roads. Schools were canceled all last week! I can't wait for the good weather to come back. I think we're back in the upper 40's by weeks end. Come on sunshine! I only have 2 jumps and need to get busy. I would love to come out to an event in OK. We'd love to have anyone interested. Hopefully someone will organize something in the near future. Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  9. I thought I lived in someplace warm but it turns out you never can tell in Oklahoma. On Thursday it was 68 degrees in Tulsa, Friday it was low 50's and by Saturday it was 22 and covered in ice. I love Oklahoma!! Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  10. I'm totally new to the sport, but the best advise I have received is to go to the DZ and ask the professionals at the DZ these same questions. Enjoy the ride!! Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  11. Don't absorb it all just yet. Put it in a jar, take it to the dropzone, and _ask your instructors about it_ before you absorb it. You will read lots of things in books, here, elsewhere on the Internet - some of it is good information and some of it is not. Your instructors can help you tell the difference. Hmm... If you were born in 1974 then I'm only about a year or two older than you. :) Eule Yes I'm 32, soon to be 33. I guess when I say absorbing it's kind of a relative term. I probably forget more than I remember. Unfortunately there is a 2 inch sheet of ice blanketing Oklahoma today and there has been no jumping the last couple of days. I'm stuck inside wishing I was in the air. Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  12. Yes just a newbie trying to learn. Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  13. I'm new and see all this great stuff on the forums but don't understand half of it. Can anyone make a list of all the good stuff? Kind of like a Cliff Notes version of terms. Happy Diving! Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  14. I don't know a lot about the weather in your region but that sounds like an everyday event in Oklahoma. We have had sun rain and snow on the same day last year! It's forecasted to be mid 60's by tomorrow and 22 on Saturday with a high probability of snow and ice. Guess we could hop on the Global Warming band wagon (just kidding). Hope it stays nice so you can get out and jump in it. What's the coldest you've jumped in? Last week I made my second AFF and groung temp was 44 and air temp at 11,000 was estimated at 20. Man it was cold! How many out there have jumped colder? How was the experience (other than cold obviously!)? Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  15. I know last year Cushing had Mullins' King Air at least once, in about May, and I think they had it again in September or so. What exactly is that? A King Air is an airplane with two turboprop engines. It can be set up for jumping. A guy named Mike Mullins owns one, and has done a lot of modifications and tweaks on it to make it really fast. He owns a DZ in Tennessee, and flies his King Air there, but he also brings it to other dropzones periodically. He brought it to Cushing last year and lots of people came out so they could jump it. The plane is fairly popular and well-known among jumpers; if you say "Mullins' plane" or "Mullins' King Air" to an experienced jumper, they will very likely know exactly what you're talking about. I figured what you meant by "group skydiving events" is when there is a large number of jumpers at the dropzone, which is why I mentioned the King Air. But now I realize maybe you meant "relative work" or "formation skydiving", where jumpers try to build formations in freefall. This happens all the time in OK, but since most (all?) of the dropzones here only have Cessnas, they can only do 4-way - formations with four jumpers maximum. If you get more than one Cessna going at once, or get an airplane that can hold more jumpers, you can make bigger formations. The current world record is a 400-way. I hope this wasn't too much stuff you already knew. :) Eule Thank you for the great information. I'm trying to absorb it all. There is so much I have to learn which at my age believe it or not is kind of exciting. Sounds like a cool opportunity. I hope I'm able the next time he comes to Oklahoma. Thanks again! 16. I live in Tulsa and also jump in Cushing. I haven't been out there for a few weeks, though. I know last year Cushing had Mullins' King Air at least once, in about May, and I think they had it again in September or so. I think they're going to do it again this year - ask Jack the next time you're out there. Eule What exactly is that? Sorry, I'm new to the sport and don't know a lot. 17. How's the jumping in California? I'll bet it's beautiful. What took you to the West Coast? My daughter and I have begun our skydiving journey together. She's 16 and I wish I would have started that early. I'm in catch-up mode. Love the AFF though. It's such a rush! Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  18. Just curious if there are any Oklahomans on these forums. Would like to hear from you. I'm new and I jump at Cushing at the Oklahoma Skydiving Center. Wondering if there ever group skydiving events in OK. Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  19. good for both of you! they let 16 year olds jump in oklahoma? don't tell my daughter that, she has to wait until she's 18 up here in the northeast. Only with Parental consent. But what can I say, she jumped at 11,000 feet twice before she could even drive herself to the DZ. Now that she has a drivers license I may never see her on the weekends. 20. I hear that. Looks like a second mortgage is in the making. LOVE IT THOUGH!! Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  21. Fortunately here in Oklahoma the DZ rarely closes. It's January 8th and the weather is supposed to push mid 50's today, up to 60's by Thursday. I think I would go nuts if the DZ was closed for an extended period of time. Do you go other places to jump? Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  22. Don't know how much of a rush it is to be among inmates, but I'm a school teacher looking to sell anything to make money to dive. It is truly amazing! I'm new with only 2 AFF jumps, but I'm always looking to find time to head toward the DZ. ENJOY!! Have You Hugged Your Local Skydiver Today?
  23. Bought my 16 year daughter a skydive for her birthday. I went with her and we're both hooked! She has three jumps (2 AFF, and 1 tandem) and I have 2 AFF's. I'm 33 and wondering why I didn't try this sooner! She's working on her 25 jumps to get licensed. I'm a proud papa! Would love to chat with anyone. Happy Jumping.
