  1. I've packed 3 G4's and they do have a tendency to get small wrinkles in the lower part of the reserve container. However so do some G3s.(and sigma rigs) I think having a slightly longer reserve loop than absolutely shortest helps. And what Mirage also said to work the sides together slowly, without much force. (Reserve this is)

"If you honestly believe that by being able to reach your main risers that you can prevent and entanglement by pulling you main in (I personally don't have near the strength that would require) feel free to leave that right handle alone."

Eh, no I don't believe that I could pull a main in if it is flying. But I do believe that there is a possibility of affecting the canopy with the risers or toggles that is not there at all if you can't reach it.
Maybe an unlikely scenario, but a main entangled in a reserve is not something I would like to experience.

"As I was trained, and have heard many times over, if you have anything out, chop first, then go silver. Less chance of the reserve opening shock popping your main pin out and giving you a 2 out problem."

Why would chopping first lead to less chance of the main coming out?
If it does open but is not attached to the harness it can still cause problems. Even worse problems the way I see it , if it entangles with your reserve you won't be able to reach it.

. You are more likely to loose an extremity at those shock loadings or failure of another component.

That's funny, since I know more then a couple people personally, that had rapid links open and bend apart on them. They all landed with them, not knowing anything had happened, although a tragic accident could have happened a very low altitudes.

To put it short, you are wrong.

I disagree, I think he is right.:)Saying that a soft link with a metal ring will be strong enough compared to the rest of the system has nothing to do with french links bending open.
Most likely this would be a result of them coming unscrewed/poor maintenance.

Some who knows what a too soft harness ring is, why ripcord stops are bad,...

I should probably know this but is the harness ring you are talking about metal? Too soft? Don't get it. And what are ripcord stops and why are they bad?

  6. Most of the comments are valid. I'd like to point to the pitch of the canopy though. Try starting the flare a bit lower and do the first part a bit faster. Then kind of pause there. This is to get the canopy more behind you. Or to get yourself more in front of the canopy. Doing this will help you plan out better and having your knees a little bent you can achieve a short surf before you finnish the flare. You have enough forward speed to be able to fly parallel to the ground a while.

Side spins have nothing to do with what type of gear you're jumping. They occur before drouge deployment. Sometimes the cause is hard to determine but it's usually due to the student with there legs way out in front or improperly tightend laterals (side straps)

    Are you sure?
What I heard is that the harness of the Strong system allows more movement up and down on the tandem master. This could definitely effect the body position of the two people together. Creating a "propeller" would be more difficult if you are connected thigh to the student.

  8. "I've got roughly 300 tandems with 2 cutaways and 1 side spin where I could feel the blood going to my head and feet. Good times!"

Was the side spin on a Vector or Strong system?
How common are side spins on Vectors? My impression is that Strong have a larger risk for this.
    Is this correct?

  9. I agree they are a good idea to have, but at really low loadings they wont make that much of a difference. Gummesson from RWS told me they recommend them from 1.5 and higher. You don't have to panic if you jump without them at a low wing loading.

  10. I recently read about them joining with the guy who started Parachute de france. Plus some other company which makes gliders. Aerodyne International I think is the name. From what I understand several new canopies will be introduced, and they will be made by PISA.

  11. I agree with clay, It's easier to look a bit forward. I sometimes find myself looking down and it feels weird, I can still flare at the correct altitude, but I wouldn't recommend it. If you are flaring a bit late it should not be too difficult to correct though, most low timers tend to flare early.
