To Riggers; What if one could control (within 1-2%) the force applied with a leverage device so one could be certain not to exceed the forces stated? Would you buy it?

If you can only pull with a limited force, closing will be more difficult. Also I think a lot of riggers rely on the fact that the pull force does decrease notably after a few days or jumps. Even if this actually means that the pull force is to high in the first couple of jumps.
Also Hook, I've never broken a reserve loop but I definitely think it is possible to pack a reserve with a pull force exceeding the limit of 10 kg. Especially on a two sprint rig.

  2. I've never thought about a twisted line being weaker but one factor effecting the wear on steering lines is that they pass through a guide ring. When you steer and flare the canopy they get worn more in that part of the line.
What also happens is increased risk of tension knots or lines getting caught together when a line is twisted.
Edited to add: Of course the slider also wears more on the steering lines, and the other outer lines, since they press out against the slider grommets the most.

  3. Where I jump (Sweden) the Cobalt has no representative, but we do have some Impulses and Competition Impulses. They are the same as the Cobalt except for the pattern on the bottom skin. We also have about 6 or 7 Crossfire 2's a few 1's. but not any other european canopies. And sadly none of Brian Germains canopies. That might change though, I would definitely like to try the Samurai.

Its exactly oval (we disassembled to watch...), and sharp edge fraying loop (on that riser)
On other rigs we can see oval in the same way holes, so, I start panic :)

You mean on other riggs from Para Avis?
They seem to make them incorrectly, contact them and have them solve it.

What is the difference between the Mirage G3 & G4?

They reduced the strength of the front reserve risers by 33%.

I don't have a lot of rigs around right now, but from my memory what I have seen is it varies with the type of ring set up. Or if there are no rings.
There are G3's with unisyn that have type VIII webbing and G4's without unisyn with type VII webbing.

  6. There is an instruction on Atair's (Cobalt) site which you could try. Quarter the slider and make sure it is as exposed as possible, push the nose into the middle or back of the canopy, roll the tail a lot.
If this doesn't help you might need to modify or change the slider.

  7. How will moving the steering line break point up or down affect the openings in general?
Will a canopy with less brakes open harder or softer?
I can easily try this myself but haven't gotten around to doing it, just curious.

  8. "I tried the technique with 500 Vectran and it was easy, no sewing, and reportedly just as stong as a 'conventional' finger-trap/bar-tack.

    "

Are you sure about using it on Vectran?
I like the idea too, but vectran is supposedly more sensitive to flexing, the fibers break more easily.

  • Does anyone have any experience of putting a pocket slider on a VX?
I'm considering doing this mod for a friend and wonder if there are any potential problems. She feels the canopy opens hard. She has also ordered a new larger slider which is on it's way.

    Thanks,
