As stated previously TI's have been using these moves for nearly 10 years now, WITHOUT a single incident. Despite the many mis-informed and uneducated opinions, the fact still remains that when performed by an appropriately experienced TI it is no more dangerous than a TI flying belly to earth. The lats and top clips do not hold the student in their harness. Leg straps and belly bands are what keep them in. (As re-itterated after the two unfortuate accidents.) Sidespins occur with loose or tight lats. Maybe instead of asking why do they do it. You should be asking why is it a problem all of a sudden.. Why haven't people like Jan found out the truth and stuck to the real facts?? (I am also aware of Strong and USPA stating that it was pretty cool.) Agreed. In the wake of recent 'Tandem accidents' It was revealed that loose belly bands can cause the 'slipping' of students. Safety meetings were held to emphasise the neccesity of a correctly fitting Harness and how (if not already known) it actually worked. The harnesses are designed similar to the climbing harness. That being that the seat is what hold them in. Leg straps, belly band. The chest strap holds them in for opening. The lats and top clips attach them to the instructor. I am of the understanding that should the s*%t hit the fan, you could 'theoretically' attach the student by two if not even one top clip and both survive opening and landing IF the harness is correctly adjusted. I have heard from a number of jumpers about this situation. All of them say that they want to see the TI rating pulled. I have asked people to email the Executive Committee or the full board and state their views and experiences with the said jumper. Wow, there are a lot of these comments on this subject. I must ask, does anyone who has shared their opinion know how many skydives or how much experience this person has? Is this TI the only one or are there several Ti's flying this way? Has there been an incident or a complaint by a student made because of the way the TI flys? I've not read any facts as yet, just opinions so was curious.
