  1. Dotn want to be the bearer of bad new but closed. has been for a few years, Great place Great people!
  2. It was my pleasure coming down with the Skyvan, great people and a great boogie!
  3. I do not think they Opened this year
  4. they skyvans thats have had engine issues were ragged out pieces of shit with spotty engine maint. at best. That is a problem with any aircraft engine. if you dont take care of it it goes boom. all of those cases the pilot was not following the limitations of the engine. after a while the engine went. Call Paul Fayard and ask him which engine is better in the long haul. He operates both pt6 and garrets. you have had learned bad, misleading information and you personal experiences are clouded by the fact you jsut dont understand how engines are designed and work. The fact the you think that skydiving turbines are ran hard up and idled down is wrong. just because you arent adding fuel doesnt mean that the engine is doing anything but 99% RPM Cheeers
  5. Hey dave you have to come fly this things its a rocket! no plans for witner yet. Having this engine in skydiving has nothing to do with it. The engine has been in skydiving on skyvans, porters, casa's and lots of others. the fact is you hav nothing to base your opinion on except for what others have mislead you with. THe term garret grenade comes form the first 731 TURBINE engines not the 331 TURBOPROP. It is rumored at Honeywell the they are going to a 5000 hour overhaul with no hot-section for the new -12 engines. Diablo? are you a mechanic? even a pilot? Experience with aircraft than jsut riding in them and shooting your mouth off?
  6. the overhaul time for a pt-6 is generally 3-4000 hours. The overhaul for a Honeywell is 5-7000 hours. Do you think the FAA asks for nothing when they approve TBO's? The temp difference between Climb and Descent is 200 degress C. Time isnt going to tell. The Honeywell 331 engine has 11 BILLION flight hours. It also has a LOWER failure rate than PT-6 engine. I am sorry if you dont understand numbers and FACTS. Anyone know what kind of engine is on the USAF and CBP Preditor aircarft. Its a TPE-331. We are not taking about a new engine here. IT been around since the 70's.
  7. I am the ONLY DZ pilot flying the ONLY Honeywell powered Grand Caravan. The aircraft engine is derated at 900 HP down from 1100 HP. This engine is powering the CASA 212-400. Honeywell engines are mroe reliable and have an in-flight shutdown rate LOWER that and PT-6 ever made. If you wonder what the ENTIRE AVIATION INDUSTRY thinks of Honeywell VS Pratt read this http://texasturbines.com/ttpress/AIN_2009.pdf I challange any twin otter to keep up and do it on 15 gallons per load like I do. Jason
  8. The Honeywell engine is heavier than the PT6 which helps the CG issue that some poeple thinks exists. We have been flying with 21 after the first load of fuel has been burned. It truly is wonderful machine and is liked by all.
  9. The plane is stripped down, has a gross weight increase kit, and the 331 engine. The plane is under max TO weight, with-in CG limits, has the required amount of fuel(3 loads plus 45 minutes of reserve), and uses "live"weights of the jumpers as produced by manifest. As for king airs being faster, why of course they are but they burn more fuel, require more maintenance, have small doors, and are generally hated by fun jumpers. PT6 VS Honeywell That debate will always continue, however the Honeywell is a nice engine and provides the Grand Caravan with the power and speed it deserves. Seat Belts The number of seat belts is part of the STC for the jump mod. Engine Out on takeoff Any aircraft including Otters and Skyvans having an engine out after takeoff sucks and usually ends badly. I have flown them all and you take a young low time pilot and put them in a Otter/skyvan you are more likely to get hurt than in a caravan, heavy or not. The SuperVan fully loaded is not that bad, it still is in Cessna's Envelope and they tested it, ALOT. the type of engine has nothing to do with it. TBO The 331-12JR-702TT has a 5000 TBO for part 91 operators ans 7000 TBO for 135 guys. The engine has autostart and a torque/Temp limiter which is helps the pilot not to over stress the Engine. Skyvans do not have this. Thats why they go boom. Bad pilots not the engine. Lastly NOISE on the ground the Supervan is louder but by electronic measurement is still quieter than a SUPER OTTER at all phases of flight. The Supervan prop turns at 1591 RPM all the time. We have more noise complaints from rotax powered ultralights than the Honeywell powered Supervan.
  10. your jsut made cause i can out drink ya, Alicia says hello
  11. no I shave and shower now Dave, How are things in CONN?
  12. I ask because I am the pilot. I am also am a jumper. I asked here because i need input. I have talked to the TI, DZO who is also the S&TA. they think it is cool. I have flown at 4 DZ's. I ussually just just fly the plane and stay out of the politics however i can see her face (the 80 jump GF) and she is so scared because she has no idea what she is doing but her BF (TI) is pushing her. The last exit they did she floated under the tandem and hit them. I do not want anyone hurt skydiving and there are reasons that the USPA and the manufr. have set high limits, because inexperience kills.
  13. I am at a turbine dropzone. I have been in the sport for 6 years. I have a tandem master at my dz that thinks it is ok for his girlfriend with 80 jumps to go out on the camera step when he is doing a tandem and then proceed to dock with them. what do I do? I know its wrong and no one here seems to care!
  14. I have been flying at cessna dropzones for a couple of years. I am now transitioning to a Caravan this month. I know in 182 the pilot must wear an emergency parachute. Does anyone know the regs when it comes to caravans or large multi engine aircraft? such as a king air or twin otter. blue skies
