  4. Where I jump, jumpruns are mostly north or south due to prevalent winds aloft (same as Perris I think). In both cases, students and experienced jumpers new to the DZ alike are told to track in east or west direction and orientational landmarks are readily available. Shouldn't be a problem. Alphons And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  5. From what I see there, you can order cases online. I already knew that. But picking up just a few cans somewhere close to home still seems to be a problem. As a comparison: I can walk into any supermarket, gas station or bar and pickup one or a few cans of Red Bull. That doesn't seem to be the case with Go Fast! Other than online in large quantities, it hardly seems to be available anywhere. Alphons And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  6. It sounds to me like the equation is based on statistics. And you know what they say about statistics: Statistics are used the same way a drunk uses lampposts. For support, not illumination.. All in all, it seems like a fun thing, but not to be taken too seriously. Alphons And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  7. There have been programs that allow you to boot Linux from Windows (Loadlin, if I'm not mistaken, is one of them) but generally, as far as I know it's not possible and you're just stuck with having to reboot. Alphons And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  8. I'm just curious... I've never had Go Fast! because I can't find it in normal stores. So just where/how do you get it??? One of the founders of Go Fast! Sports is a dutchman (I live in Holland too), but I still can't find it anywhere. It's not exactly available in supermarkets or something. Alphons And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  9. Digital photography is not much of a problem. There are some very good image manipulation programs for Linux (or FreeBSD or whatever) and USB card readers can be used just fine. With games, you're in for trouble. But instead of using an emulator, may I suggest that you try a dual-boot system? Alphons And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  10. Red Bull. The others either taste like crap, don't work or are difficult to find. Alphons (I guess triple espresso would work, too) And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  11. I've heard the colored-section-argument before. However, as far as I know the colored sections on an analog altimeter are fixed and cannot be changed (easily). Crucial altitudes (seperation, opening, harddeck) however, can change from jump to jump. I don't mean to completely dismiss the usefulness of colored sections on an analog altimeter, but I would like to point out that it has its limitations imho. Concerning the conversion of a digital readout into meaningful knowledge, I think that this is simply something personal. Some people may have difficulty with it, others may not. Personally, I find my Digitude readout much easier to interpret than any analog face altimeter, but that's just me. To conclude, I think it's a matter of personal preference more than anything else. Just my 2 eurocents, Alphons And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  12. Depending on what you use that machine for, switching to Linux could be either a very good idea or a very bad idea. Good luck! Btw: I run FreeBSD myself. Alphons And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  13. I second that! Alphons And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  14. Hmm, the arm vs. leg matter is certainly interesting. Thanks for raising the point! Alphons And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

  16. Yeah, I gathered as much. Or your name is Joseph Kittinger Alphons And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  17. If I recall correctly, Luigi already jumped the VX-45 at wingloads in excess of 4. Just curious, btw: what would be the largest wingload and/or smallest canopy anybody would want to take to terminal? Alphons And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  18. I'm afraid all the body position in the world won't help you reach 500+ mph between cutaway and RSL activation Alphons And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  19. Sounds like a very viable suggestion. Thanks! I live about a mile from a rigger who also happens to be a suit manufacturer. I guess I'll pay them a visit and ask if they can put such a pocket on my suit... Alphons And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  20. Because it's still sitting in a locker at a certain island... Fonz (thanks for the suggestion though) [edit]Thanks to DJL too, of course[/edit] And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  21. In the meantime, we still don't know exactly what happened. Another jumper (who was a close friend of the deceased) has been arrested after having made a failed suicide attempt. A love triangle between her, the deceased and another (male) jumper emerged and she's now a prime suspect. But information is still scarce so be careful not to draw premature conclusions! Alphons [edit: typo corrected] And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  22. [also posted in the gear and rigging forum] Okay, here's the deal: 1. I'm planning to get into CRW. 2. My current altimeter is a Digitude and I really love it. However, when I fieldpack or drop my rig in the hangar, I sometimes get a suspension line snagged under my Digitude. I sure wouldn't want that to happen when doing CRW... So my question is twofold: a) how big is the snag hazard when using a Digitude with CRW? b) what can be done to reduce the risk of snagging with this particular altimeter, would a sleeve (if available) help? Thanks for your thoughts, Fonz And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

  24. Second that. I'll never forget my first solo after AFF. It was just total freedom... Very liberating. Alphons And five hundred entirely naked women dropped out of the sky on parachutes. -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  25. Heck, where were you when I did my AFF at Perris? I had a whole friggin' carton of Luckies that I bought at the tax free... Okay, I eventually had to sell them for beer, but still.
