don't get that impression (from me, at least). I am very aware that there are plenty of things to go wrong besides hooking too low. but the situation you describe in your last sentence involves someone turning too low, regardless of the excuse. there is very little room for error in this sport and that is exacerbated the higher the wing loading and the smaller the canopy.

Couple questions: Is the diskette full? is the file you're tryin to save marked as read only? can you save the file under a different name? does the light on the floppy drive come on while trying to save? (if no, you're going to need a new drive) does the floppy drive make 'the usual sounds' while trying to save?

Texasdiver, I applaud you for wanting to become informed. Don't let the injury/death statistics fool you though. There is a lot of danger involved with skydiving, as you've probably figured out already. However, a good number of people dying in the sport are doing so because they are pushing safety margins(exceeding wing loadings, turning too low, etc).

I don't see the A-bomb as any sort of 'payback' for atrocities committed by the Japanese. I think the administration at the time thought it was an efficient means of inflicting damage on the enemy, enemy morale and enemy production facilities.(one city contained a shipyard, the other a munitions plant) I don't know if this is true, but: Every Purple Heart given out since WWII (in Korea, Viet Nam, Desert Storm, etc) was manufactured prior to the dropping of the A-bomb. The invasion of Japan was expected to injure/maim THAT MANY U.S. servicemen. Although a great number of Japanese civilians died, there were military objectives in the bombing AND the U.S. got to spare a great number of its' servicemen injury and death.

Bush accomplished what 13 years of U.N. embargoes and U.S. enforced No-fly zones could not: 1) Hussein is no longer in control. 2) Iraq is no longer a military threat. 3) Iraq is no longer capable of furnishing bio/chem weapons to .. unfriendlies. 4) U.N. weapons inspectors were finally able to do their jobs. 5) Hopefully there will be a secular and democratic government (read: U.S. friendly) in place.

You've already accomplished a lot in the eyes of most non-jumpers. You should be proud of your accomplishments and there is absolutely nothing wrong with feeling a little (or lot) of anxiety about jumping after a long lay-off. If you decide to jump again, rest assured you will not be thrown out of the aircraft and expected to perform at your previous level of expertise. At a minimum you'll have to jump with an instructor (or two) to ensure you haven't lost your skills. Ultimately, the choice is yours and I wish you luck.
