  1. took me 11 times to stand one up, I've only got 32 jumps, but I understand the concept of the landing a lot better now. the book by brian germaine, parachute and it's pilot was great, check it out
  2. 1.07 wingloading with a 390 sq ft canopy tdog. I understand the wingloading, but if your jumping in the winds I described (gusting to 20, the low side was 5 mph, so 5 mph gusting to 20 mph) what canopy size will handle that wind better? the bigger canopy seems to me like it has more area to be pushed around, the smaller canopy seems like it would knife through the wind better without being pushed around?? thanks for the replys! just trying to learn
  3. question, why do tandums still jump in winds that ground students (gusting to 20 mph )? I realize that the tm has loads of experience, but a lot of licensed skydivers don't go in these winds either. is it because there is more weight with tandums? and what size canopy does better in the wind? bigger or smaller?? what dangers exist in these type winds? thanks for helping the new guy with these questions!!
  4. the other 2 students and I got our ticket refunded only because t.k hayes is a great guy! he didn't have to do that for us, but what he said was that since we we're under their supervision and it was their call, he refunded our ticket. I guess if it's your own call, you lose the price of the ticket to 13,500'
  5. I am almost ready to get my A license, and was at z-hills last weekend. the wind was blowing above 14mph so I was grounded for about 2hrs. finally I get the go ahead from one of my instructors to jump, I get on a load, get to 13,000', then the pilot says that the 3 students on board can't jump because the wind kicked up again. shitty, but what impressed me most was the decision of a video guy with over 12,000 jumps to not jump because he felt uncomfortable about the weather conditions. really impressed me that somebody with that much experience put himself on a weather hold. I guess that's why he has over 12,000 jumps!!
  6. just went to skyventure in orlando last night to work with sally and martin from my home dz (z-hills). wow, did 15 minutes of training and it was outstanding. martin worked with me the most, and he was very good!! I was having trouble sidesliding and once they saw what I knew (I just have 24 jumps), and solidified my basics, they had me sidesliding right away!. I mean the 1st time I actually slide sideways I was smiling sooooo big, like a little kid who just stayed on his 1st bike ride!!! actually I was laughing, it was fucking great!!!!!!!!!! also, can that sally fly!!!, wow, her turns we're tight and sharp, she looked like a f-18 doing 8 point rolls, turn, stop, turn stop, I guess that's why she is a world champion! also, watching the way she arches was very instructional, I mean it was perfect, and really made me understand more how the airflow goes around your body in a belly fall. thanks to martin too, he was very paitent and encouraging, plus he flys pretty fucking great too. I'm excited, just had to let you guys know!!!!!!!
  7. nope, not related at all, but thanks for that 20 bill! hahaha a question for you bill, I don't want to name names or anything, but the rigger at my dz showed me the technical data he had about packing the skyhook. then he showed me a page about having something showing green and not red or something regarding when you pack it, then he said if that isn't packed right your reserve won't work at all. forgive my inability to give you the exact info about what he said, I'm new and still learning. I swear though, alot of d license jumpers I talk to (instructors included) just say oh, it's just another rsl. It doesn't seem like just another rsl to me? anyway, thanks for everything you do for the sport!!! regards, steve knoll
  8. thank you all for your imput, I just am amazed at bill booth and his knowledge and dedication to making our sport as safe as possible. I know I want to #1, be a safe skydiver, #2 have every chance of being and old and safe skydiver. the skyhook just amazes me to no end, and I plan on using one when I do buy a rig. I also know my ep's, and know there is no substitute for using them properly. thanks again for your imput!!!!! steve p.s thank you bill booth!!!!!
  9. thanks for the help, it makes perfect sense, I can't wait to get back up and work on it. steve
  10. I am trying to learn to sideslide left and right in freefall, but every time I think I'm tilting my whole body one way, I go into aflat turn instead of my whole body sliding, my coaches have been awsome at z-hills, but I'm getting frustrated with not being able to do this task!! help please!!!
  11. a question about the skyhook, I watched the video about it's history and use, and obviously I am a newbie to the sport, but it seems to me that this innovation is just awsome! but I understand if your doing crew work you might need a delay in the reserve opening. with that in mind, why is it every skydiver with lots of jumps and experience I talk to don't seem very impressed with it?? also, the guy who packs the reserves at my dz said it's just another type of rsl, and if it's not packed just right, it won't deploy at all. please help with this, when I buy gear, I really see a great benefit for me with the skyhook as far as safety for my jumps, but the D license jumpers don't share my enthusiasm?
