    hill work

Bill, You seem to have a good knowledge of the way the hill works. We have been having a lively discussion with our coach over the weekend about the way 4-way block moves work on the hill. Our coach is saying that as the block pairs move if horizontal separation occurs the top pair should work towards the bottom pair as it is easier/faster to work down the hill than for the bottom pair to work up the hill. There was a lot more to it than this, but the jist of the conversation was that you have 2 forces acting on you 1) your forward movement caused by the run-in speed 2) gravity. Of course more importatntly, you also have the opposite force of air resistance working against you and this is what we use to manoeuvre. However while you are on the hill, travelling up it you are working against gravity (sort of) and vice versa. Most of us just take what has been said as read (because we can't explain it ourselves) but one team-mate would just like to know if this is actually correct and why because it doesn't make sense to him. Can you shed any light (or can anyone else)? Yours quizzically, Jonathan My liver is evil...I must punish it!
  2. I can't understand your hang-up with whether or not people can understand what it's like to skydive. Have you ever pole-vaulted? Thrown a javelin? I know you're going to say most people have thrown a stick but then again most people will have jumped off a high wall or a high diving board. Olympic sports are extraordinary sports or ordinary sports taken to the extreme - sounds just like a description of skydiving. I just can't understand the negative attitude to skydiving in the Olympics - can someone explain it to me? My liver is evil...I must punish it!
  3. If it wasn't for the RAF running the whole show and being very strict about operating hours and procedures, there wouldn't be a DZ in the country that could match Weston. If you want expert coaching in every discipline, great planes, great facilities, great atmosphere and plenty of space to pitch up, Weston's for you. If you want to jump during the week, it's not.

    DZ Honeys!

Let's be honest, even if you were a real tree squirrel Nigel would be humpin' at your leg like a rabid poodle! I think the DZ honeys is a great idea. Niggle just wants to do it 'cos no female skydiver in the UK will shag him seeing as he's tried it on with every one of them! My liver is evil...I must punish it!
  5. I live in Twickenham as well. I jump at Weston...I find that's the easiest to get to from there and it's probably the best DZ I've jumped at. My liver is evil...I must punish it!
