A Texas hold 'em tournament was the FIRST thing that came to mind. The only problem is that it is illegal here. Even if all of the money raised is given to a charity and people are playing for prizes that were donated. Trust me, I know the drawing power of half naked women. The last fundraiser that I did was called "camp out for the kids". I got donations for the amount of time that I lived in the bar that I work at and finished the process with a "strip off" (a competition for the escort services in the area) I ended up living in the bar for 2 weeks, lost a good portion of my mind and the camp out barely made more money than strip off. What I was wondering about is if any has done a walk-a-thon type of fundraiser with skydiving? You know, instead of so much money per mile walked, you would have people/businesses donate based on the number of jumps a preson/group/dz pulled off in a weekend. I just want to do something good for a good cause and bring some good publicity to skydiving at the same time. I would like to say thanks to everyone who has taken the time to help me out! I try to do a fund raising event for the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital every year. This year I would like to make skydiving the big star and a huge contributor to the event. I would love some suggestions and ideas about how to make this a big money maker and a great PR movement for the sport of skydiving. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. THANKS! The bad news is true. Most of the instructors will be tied up so they won't be able to do the instruction thing. If you have the chance, please try to make it for the boogie anyway. I promise that you won't be disappointed that you made the trip.

Back to the subject at hand; will any student jumps be going on? I can not speak for the training staff and if it will happen, but if it happens you will be better for the experience. I am a new jumper too. If there is a place to learn how to jump it is a skydivetallahass.com. The staff is experienced and super safe. The staff has always been patient and commited to teaching me how to do things with the best interest of everybody on the load in mind. If you are lucky enough to get instruction from any of the staff there I think that you would feel very educated and welcome. I hope that I can learn with you and lets make this a great boogie! You'll be getting sucked in to these crazy ass jumpers and everything that they relate to deeper and deeper sooner than you think you will. I am stiill learning like you but it is so much fun to have a GREAT group like the skydivetallahassee.com crew to take you through the learning process. Every day that I am out at the DZ someone teaches me something new to keep me and all of the other jumpers safe, for that I am eternally thankful. Let's keep up the learning and have a great time at the 10 yr party. He was a little too slow........so we killed him.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I'll be at the boogie but I won't be able to get out there until sunday. I manage Bullwinkles which is a bar on the strip. Since FSU is playing UAB at home I will be working 16 - 20 hrs on Fri and Sat. I'm going to get out to the DZ as soon as I can on Sun. The only sanity saving part of the weekend (other than the jumping, of course) will be Fri night. I will be behind the bar instead of fighting thru the crowd. I am just getting started skydiving and I love everything about this sport. I did 2 tandem fun jumps and ordered my rig. I've gone through all of my training, been cleared for solo jumping, and am now working on getting my A license. I have been in the bar business for over a decade and I thought that the family that I developed at work was a tightest and craziest bunch that I would ever be involved with. I was wrong. I got hooked up with the gang at Skydive Tallahassee and I was exposed to a whole new group that took me under their wings, taught me how to fly, and let me become part of thier crazy family. I can't wait to meet more of the jumping world and experience all that skydiving has to offer.

You got the ass kicking part right but you are WAY off about the real job. I put in real hours and I get paid in real money. You know that I do all that I can to look after the jumpers when they come in. The good part about Friday is that I will be bartending (not managing the place for once) in the Beer Garden rocking out to the band. So come see me Friday night. CIndy, How late will there be people jumping on Sun? I'm looking forward to attending my first event like this but won't be able to come out until Sunday afternoon. You guys will be on your 3rd load before I get to bed Fri, Sat, and Sun. Home games make running a bar profitable but the days are long. A few jumps on Sun will be the thing I need to help me end the hectic weekend.
