I like the 100 watt bulbs in my bike.

If I hit the high beams you know it for sure.

I REALLY need to work on the lighting for my bike. I never ride at night because I just can't see more than about 30 feet or so in front of me and there are just too many deer/critters out where I live to have that short a distance unveiled in front of me.

It's been on the to do list for more than a year. Must. Get. To. It!

  2. Too funny. I went to visit family for Christmas in Florida. I had seen University of Texas Snuggies all over the place here so I decided I wanted to go and find a University of Florida Snuggie to bring as a white elephant gift for someone in my family to see how they would react (whole family is big Georgia fans - hate Florida with a passion). They thought I was crazy when I asked around trying to find a UF Snuggie. "Why would they make a snuggie with a logo on it? They don't do that!"

By the way, I've done most of my cowboyin' in Jeff Davis county... know it well!

Folks out there have really opened up in the last few years. Most of my work out there was for The Nature Conservancy. Talk about a hated organization when they first arrived...(you know, they're only acquiring property to high the government's black helicopters on!). People really opened up when they realized the benefit of burning, and that we would do it EXTREMELY cheaply if not free for the sake improving habitat.

I don't doubt that we've probably walked some of the same trails out there.

I know what you're saying! Some of the ranchers around here were terrified by The Nature's Conservancy. Their reason was, the Conservancy had bif plans of turning this country into one big park. There were a lot of mis-conceptions, mostly due to the internet and some of the trash found there. Things seem to have simmered-down and folks are being a bit more logical. I do recall, a couple years ago, some of the ranchers got upset with The conservancy because, The Conservancy was having a 'BIG' feral hog problem. They brought-in helicopters to run the hogs of Conservancy land. Well, that just shoved the hogs back onto private ranch land. Some of the ranchers got their own helicopter and spotted the hogs for us on the ground. We killed over 200 of the rotten critters!:D
We more than likely have trod some of the same paths.;)

Hmmm...we've used helicopter eradication here on the coast, but it was always find and shoot, usually in the 250-300 per day range. Guess they are bound to miss some. I know when they have all the traps running it's a full time job just to check them every other day. Hadn't actually heard about the Davis Mountains Preserve using a helicopter for anything but fire though. Anyway...a lot of ranchers are getting on board now because TNC is one of very few organizations that has the authority to bypass a burn ban and they realize that is the only way they are going to get their property burned. TNC runs a training operation out there each winter, inviting federal and state firefighters around from all over the country to come down and get experience in prescribed fire. Keep your eye out for some smoke columns in the next week or two. They have a group of 25-30 out there burning right now.

  4. I'm not a fan of the whaling and admire that there are people out there putting themselves in harms way to try and stop it, but at the same time my response to Sea Shepard is a big ole "Suck it up, Cupcake!" Go out and about your business as you choose to, but don't go crying to mommy when the guy you've been harassing decides to turn around and give you a taste of your own medicine.

  6. I imagine more than a few folks out there need to do a bit of adjusting too. Only takes a few minutes, and chances are if you aim 'em properly they'll work a lot more effectively without blinding everyone else quite as intensely!

Nice,,,thanx. Seems New Yorkers claim their Pizza is the best, yet it seems in my travels non-New Yorkers don't seem to rave about it yet are crazy for everyone elses Pizza,,,hhhmmm interesting...

On many visits to NYC while growing up and in college I never thought a whole lot of NYC pizza. I moved there and became accustomed to it and have rarely been happy with a slice of pizza since I moved away.

Had some amazing pizzas elsewhere, but for just grabbing a slice on the way home nothing beats it!

    Graeter's ice cream

I will never forget my first cup of Graeter's, and the feeling that went through my body when I found my first domino size chunk of chocolate in my peanut butter chocolate "chip."

I didn't try Skyline for the first time until about 6 weeks before graduating from UC and moving. I regret not having gone sooner because I loved it, but at the same time it was probably best for my digestive system.

  9. If nothing else I wish the injury would have happened later in the game so we would have seen the direction of the game to start.

Alabama's defense is crushing them and it's not all just the freshman quarterback, though it's obviously playing a role.

Just a fuck all of a game. Even if Texas comes back and starts really playing well it will still always be "but what if..."

  10. Sounds like you won't need it in this case, but a letter (or web submission) to the Attorney General in the state the dealer is located can help.

I really don't know if it works the same everywhere, but twice I've been in a situation where I sent a letter to a president/CEO with a CC: to the BBB and the State Attorney General. The AG office automatically sent a form letter in both cases to let the company know they had received a complaint and for them to comment if they so chose.

I received a phone call from the president/CEO of CompUSA to let me know they would give me a full refund on a 5 year old computer I had battled with them over for 6 months. I asked why now after 6 months and he bluntly said we rarely push it once the BBB and AG get brought into it.

  11. So McCoy?

Really want to see him come back into the game and able to play. I want Alabama to stomp Texas, but I don't want it to happen without Texas able to play at their best. I think Alabama deserves the title and don't want to see that with the asterisk.

  12. Stupid people do seem to come out of the wood work. I moved on to EMS full time as fire was taking a pretty big toll on my broke ass body, so getting on some fires is just a side job once in a while now. Winter time out there is fire SETTING time. Last winter we burned upwards of 18,000 acres in two weeks. It's amazing what you can do with planning and the right personnel/equipment. Wish I didn't have to miss it this year!

More prescribed fire means less wildfire = a good thing. It's tough to think that way though when wildfire = overtime!

  13. I would really like to think it's in the master plan. Alabama playing like they have their heads up their asses to let the horns get complacent at which point the band will come on the field at half time and spell "PSYCH" and Alabama will come back out to stomp 'em.

Unfortunately I think Alabama really does have their heads up their asses.

  14. For me, it's the "Mama Rosa's Special" from Mama Rosa's in Ridgewood, NJ. My dad and his brothers frequented the restaurant growing up in Ridgewood and one of the biggest treats growing up was to eat at Mama Rosa's while visiting Grandma in Ridgewood. The same family ran it the whole time and used to recognize my dad and later me and my siblings as if we were there every day rather than just once or twice a year.

Edit to add: DEVASTATED!!! Just did a quick search on the net and found out they closed! Hadn't been since I moved from NYC in 2004. It's a sad sad day!

  15. This time last year I was sleeping in my tent in 14 degree lows out in the Davis Mountains while on a prescribed fire detail. Was supposed to be back out there for another couple weeks starting next week but a nasty bout of bronchitis is going to keep me home in "warm" south Texas. I LOVE the Davis Mountains in the winter. So crisp and clean, and with the right sleeping bag one of my favorite places to camp in the winter.

Last night at 3:30am it was 61 degrees when I got back to the station from a call. Went out again at 5:45 and it was 50 degrees, got off shift at 10am it was 40 and by noon it was 31. It's just not right, not in South Texas!!!

  16. Roll Tide!

I'd much rather be saying Go Dawgs! but not a chance of that this year. Gotta keep it in the SEC!

Based on the last games each team play you might think Alabama is a no brainer, but have to keep in mind it was pretty much the best game of the season for Bama and worst game of the season for Texas. Tough to compare.

Wish Florida had played against Bama as they did against Cincinnati. Would have been a much better game.

As far as I'm concerned, the National Championship Game was played back on December 5th in the Georgia Dome.

  18. I've been a USAA customer since I was a kid, and they continually take online banking to a whole new level. I was blown away a couple years ago when I started being able to scan a check at home to deposit. I don't even know how to describe how great it was last week when for the first time I used USAA's iphone application to deposit my check directly from the phone. UNFREAKINBELIEVABLE!!!

USAA used to be a bit of a pain in the ass when I had to mail checks and deal with the lag time. Shit, now I can have a check deposited within 30 seconds of it being handed to me. Freakin brilliant!

I too have pulled the funds transfer at the point of sale. Forgot to make a transfer before I went. Saw the person starting to try my card again, quick hopped on the iphone, she said I seem to be having trouble. Not sure why. Could you give it one more try? Bingo, money was there!

Sometimes I think technology is more trouble than it's worth. But I'll be giddy enough about depositing checks on my phone for long enough to forget about that for a while.

I heard that using it on wireless as well as satellite internet was a problem. Maybe they fixed it in recent years. Anyone know the answer?

I expect I would have trouble using it on my wireless as it somewhat frequently drops a signal (because I'm too cheap to go buy a new router until this one completely quits). I plan on running a wire to the computer I use if I do it.

I've never had any trouble with Skype on my Macbook, but I don't plan on leaving it running all the time like I would the older PC. Skype was always hit or miss on the PC, thought it was mainly the video that was hit or miss, not the audio.

  20. Almost two years since the original post...

...so what do people using Magic Jack think about it now? I haven't had a home phone since 1999, but I'm considering it in order to have a secondary way for work to reach me when my cell phone loses it's signal (only about 10% of the time, but can cost me $$$ but not getting a call).

I saw they have a free trial on the internet and am probably going to take advantage.

Chiquita...is it a little netbook or something you are hooked up to?

I have my old P3 desktop I'm considering just sticking in the closet and leaving on to use as networked storage and think the Magic Jack would work just fine on it.

  21. Are you trying to share the full amount? If so, you can probably just trade miles for a ticket in the name of the person. I've had people give me a ticket with miles.

    If it's only a partial amount I don't know.
