Planes are from Skydive Surf City, a tandem operation that takes off from Watsonville CA and drops over the beach near Rio Del Mar/Aptos (a few miles south of Santa Cruz).

Don't shoot messenger. I LIKE airplane sounds.

    Hi 77',
Obviously the guy stuck his head too far up his as* and his sphincter muscle has clamped down on his esophagus and cut off the air flow to his brain causing serious O2 starvation causing this delusional behavior!! 'Can be easily "RECTAfied" by him pulling his head out of his ass!! Do I have to say anything else??

    Hi Al,

Good to hear from you; I am working on it and having difficulty scanning negatives. I will see if I can take the negatives to a pro to scan for me.

I'm thinkin',..."WE BAD!!" and I'm hearing it at the same time!....Pat's grinning from ear to ear and yelling,"WE BAD!!"......Fly on Pat, you're probably docking on that Big Star between Gary and Kevin.....look for Dirty Ed smilin at ya'.....Blue skyz Brother.

No but then the only jewelry I wear is my wedding band. 'Don't even have any tats. But i have a curved pin on my key ring next to my "P-38" (GI can opener) and the P/C attach ring from the top skin of my old "Dragon Fly!" had a couple of curved and straight pins in my Riggers tool box and Shaun O'Neal saw them and asked for one. Gave him two. He said he gave one to his girlfriend and the next day at work he was sportin a big shit-eatin grin. Said I,"What gives?" He said he gave his girlfriend the pin and it proceeeded to get him laid!!!! 'Ya gotta love it!!

You guys really think we give you course corrections? just bump the rudder in the direction indicated and wiggle the plane and you guys are happy! ;)

But then again some of us are also skydiving jump pilots and we also know how to spot/look down!

~ Few years back doing a demo out of a DZ's 182 with the DZ pilot...
A team member gave several course corrections, demo spots ARE critical into congested cities.

The tail wiggle wasn't doin' it so the guy spotting put a hand on the wheel and turned it 15 degrees right like we needed...we exit & land.

Hour later back at the DZ...:o>:(

Pilot called a local fed to complain, so he was there waiting for us. The guy spotting is a jump pilot for 35 years, a CFI, has 20,000 hrs in corporate jets as chief pilot...he has to apologize and write up a report, and promise never to do that again.

Well..we're professionals and don't want to make waves so we are sincere and go way above and beyond to smooth things over...right up until the tail wiggler asks about a possible corporate seat from the guy he just sicked the feds on! :S

"Wouldn't work out, seen you fly and you suck, not to mention askin' me for a job 10 minutes after ya write me up with the feds over bullshit ...tells me ya ain't real fuckin' smart either!"

    Hi Jim,
So, this supposed "jump pilot" that "wrote up" your frend to "the feds," the question I have about him is,"Where did he get his flyin' ticket, out of a Cracker Jack Box???????????????????"

Howard would tell me to mind my own f*cking business, but as he can't...

Our friend, Howard White, has died at home. Howard was a frequent contributor to Parachutist, his recent series on jump aircraft will be a reference text for many years to come.

Many people knew him, and he'd choose to jump with some of them. If you were among his friends, you knew where you stood, even if he hadn't been on a load with you in years.

And as he was a jumper for many years, everyone has a story... I remember the time I managed to get to the DZ before him on New Years Day, and in taking his slot, broke his "First load of the New Year" streak. I think that was 1983, but he remembered it for years. Still, he encouraged me to keep broadening my horizons, (by jumping somewhere else), and kept saying he'd make a jump with me, some other time.

Blue skies, HW. Thanks for being you.

    Hi JC and all,
Read the news on the memorial page headline and .....don't know what to say. Like when my wife Peggy died,....'took me a couple of daze till I could muster up the words to come here and say something. 'Only met Howard once, at the old farts get togetrher at Raeford. 'Chatted about jumpin' a lot here on Dizzy.com and now he's gone from us. Shoz' to go ya', live life like every day is your last, ....because it might be??!! Fly on Howard, 'gonna miss ya' buddy!!

Hahaahhahahahhah!!! You didn't screw up anything!!! So ya' missed a couple of good landing areas but the clincher was," Stand up!! in the peagravel parking lot 'ON' your "First! jump on the Saber 190!!!!" Hell that's HOT!! I have a Stiletto 190 and believe me there is no substitute for lots of square feet of nylon above you!!! You are welcome on any of my skydives!! Jeeeez, back when trying to do a "Stand up landing" under a 28' 7-TU would get you two broke ankles!!!!! That's why we got taught PLF's!!
BTW 'ya might buy a case for your first standup under the 190 but yer instructor's 1000'th was a case on it's own regardless of the outcome of the skydive, 'ya walked away under your own power without the beniefit of an ambulance ('Bofya'!!) Good job!!
BTW#2 So ya' found out that those ZP Big canopies have a "Lot More" Glide than the rust bucket slug student rigs, interestin' aint it??

    Hello all

    Check this out please...

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/1963-U-S-MILITARY-ISSUED-PARACHUTE-WITH-UNCUT-LINES-/140724084588?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20c3cf1f6c

It looks like someone made a lot of effort to create a Paracommander like parachute from a regular C-9 canopy. Was this done on an individual bases back then of was it a factory modification?

    cheers
    Uwe

    Hi j4,
"Got Photos????" Back when, Ben Seal, Jr. at Hammond, La., Southland Skydivers, had a C-9 that he modified into a Paracommander complete with crown lines, pulled down vent and stabs. He took Leon Riche's P/C and copied the mods although he should have made the turn slots a hair bit bigger as the C-9 was 28' and the P/C 24'. Ben called it the "Sky Hook!!" I wrote about it elsewhere here on H & T. I put a bunch of jumps on it in the fall of '66 before I went into the Navy and Mike Marcon took it over after that till it got "retired." It flew like a slow PC, turns were acceptable , it had a better glide than a C-9 and definitely a softer landing!! Always stood it up with no trouble. Stan Spooner from the era had one he made also, saw him jump it at the old Cotton Belt Council meets. They're out there.

...well there were a few of us slow starters.....
I never had any problems with S/L or DRCPs, it was C&P and then flat spins :-)

I got cleared at 49 jumps after a harness hold jump scared the last fearless JM (Zek Lenn) left.

Some say I still haven't got it right!

    Hi JB!!!!,
:D:Dfunny thing you should mention that!! 'Made it thru the C&P's, 5 sec and 10 sec delays but the 15's got me with the spinz!! Did a couple where I wound up a bunch of line twists! Thank God those 28's had long lines! Lynn Anselmo from Louisiana Skydivers finally straightened me out with a good pep talk about "RELAXING!!!" He said holding a "Hard Arch" when ya' pick up speed does it, gotta relax and go with the flow!! I said,"Ya' want me to go up and do a 10SD??" "No," he said,"We're goin' up, I'll follow you out and you're gona do a 30!!(from 7500'!)" He kept talkin to me in the plane tellin me to remember to relax and off we went!! "WOW!!" That was the one!! Kept checkin my alt and Lynn was right there, seemed like the dive took forever!! That was jump# 20 on 27DEC64.

Thx for the humor.........48 years later!!!! as the last line said, jump #20, 27DEC64!! Tunnels, Tandem, AFF?? Those were still pipe dreams back then, hell, the first demo PC just made it to the DZ a few weeks before that by our ASO Mark Boudreaux. The Canopy was so "Advanced" that if ya' ordered one they sent it to Mark and he "checked you out on it!!!" Thoze were da' daze!!

Thanks everybody, this was exactly the information I was looking for!!

    Hi 'Tekkie!!,
:D:DFunny you should mention that! There was a time, back in the day, when all there was, was B-12 Snaps!! then someone showed up at the DZ with a rig with ejectors!! Got to be the rage till a few came un done in free fall!! "EG!!!" Mid 60's at I think it, no it was a Pascagoula (Cotton Belt Council for those that can remember!!) meet, Herb Golden from Louisiana Skydivers and one of the hottest Style competors in the South goes out on a style jump and the judges missed him on the telemeters.....did this on 2 jumps in a row!! (Just to let you know, Herb was jumping a Bell Helmet, French Boots, a Pioneer Jumpsuit, and a Security System [often referred to as a Kelvinator rig in modern skydiving folklore!] that was the first "Piggy Back" comercial rig!! [also one of the first split saddle rigs!!]and it had "EJECTOR HARDWARE!!" on the third attempt Herb went out and one of his leg straps ejector hardware kicked loose!! He spent most of the dive rolling, looping and generally being out of control trying to get ahold of that leg strap and hooking it back up before he bounced which he did, (hook up the leg strap, not bounce) anyway, the judges got him at 8 seconds clean (no over shoots or undershoots etc) on the style series which was "FAST" for those daze gone by!! If you don't believe me, call Herb, he still lives in Baton Rouge and Philip R. "Cappy" Connors (whereever he is these daze) usedta' tell the story with "Great viggah!!" Also, I was at the same meet!! Keetchykoo ya'll!!
