Anyone ever figure out what happened to db cooper:P

    Hi Ripper,
After he jumped out of the jet, the wind blast blew open his jacket and some of the money went flying, then he got sucked up by a flying saucer before he deployed his chute and was taken to some far away planet by "Space Aleins!!!" This is just as good a "Theory" as any I've heard.....check out the db cooper thredB|;);):ph34r::D:D:D

  2. Hi Jerry,
Thx for the tip, 'Hard to believe it's been 20 yrs. Every time I "Do the Math!" over the memory of some "event" the numbers scare me!!

'Twaz a few beers ago as I recall I was just past the fence by the swimming pool and look up to see a 20 (or so) way dumping and one jumper was doing a pretty good hum job!! There in the grass in front of the door to Sq. 1 was Allen Richter pointing up at the dirty low puller yelling "Sechler!!..Sechler!!!!" then Mark Sechler comes up behind him, points up over Allens' shoulder and starts yelling "Sechler! Sechler!!" also!! Allen keeps yelling and as he looks over his shoulder and releaizes "He's been had!!" everybody around busted out laughing!!!!!
I'll be thinking of ya'll tomorrow, raise a beer for me to Mark and Bobby.

  3. Hi Reggie,
Saw this cruising the web too. This was a first for the new tower, "case of Beer!!" Anyone, ya' have to be an old fart, remember Owen Quinn and the first Base jump off the Twin Towers when they were under construction?? 'Was written up in "Spotter" magazine back when! Owen was also a member of Long Island Skydivers back then at Spadero's Airport on L.I. He died some years ago I believe from cancer. The Twin Towers are gone and Owen is gone but the legend lives on.

  4. Hi John,
There are No Rules, Pie, Beer or otherwise! If there exists a rule it is "Jungle Rules!!" (Period) Go ask Gloria Dorosko about pie jobs!! 1984 or there abouts (most of the people reading this post weren't even born yet!) Scare-us-valley I was just walking back to the packing area by the pool and there was Gloria's rig!! Jan Stone and someone else tried to pie Dr. Dan Polatch for some milestone jump and he ducked. Gloria's BRAND NEW V-5 SILVER,BLACK AND RED VECTOR AND I MEAN BRAND NEW!! got the pie!! Steam came out from under her collar, there was a blue flame in her eyes and bolts of lightning came from her voice!! Needless to say, she was one pissed off woman! All because of "PIE!!" If ya' wanna get pied, oh well that's your thing. Just remember that if you're the agressor in a pie job, "Paybacks are a Bitch!!" My retaliatory weapon of choice is a #8 Cast Iron Skillet!!"

  5. Hi Lisa,
Since we're on chest mount deployments, 'had a few hack when too. Somewhere's around Oct, Nov of 1972 was doing some dives at Otay. 'Had a nice 10 Man organizewd and someone said,"When we get the star, lets break it into a line!!" I start screaming "HELL NO!!!!! we hold the star!! Me and a couple of others can get our SCR!!! AND THERE'S BEER!!!!!" The now late Brady Sanders had his head up his ass, wasn't listening and right after we got the star, he let go!! I cussed him out all the way to dump alt. Then the fun began. Dump about 2.5 and nothing. Gave it a shake, still nothing!! (3 pin mini-system type container "cone lock" on the center pin!) Started going head down , still nothing, and figured I'd roll over on my back and fire my 26' NAVCON chest reserve, as I looked "UP" between my feet to see the sleeve comming off my PC!! "BAM!!" I saw stars!! I had just pulled the reserve handle so only the pilot chute floated out and between the stars I managed to grab it before it got away!!! Not quite the boot heels on the helmit but a head down high speed PC deployment will sure get your attention. Sure beats the dirt!! We got the 10 man but since Brady let go before the 5 second limit, the argument was that it didn't qualify for an SCR!! 'Still pisses me off but I managed to get in on a SCR dive not much later. Ya' have to remember this was when the First Jump Fairy didn't hand out SCR's like candy mints!!! I can still remember the "STARS!!" from that opening!
BTW Brady was one of the jumpers on Spike's Beech Taft Crash.

'Think I saw the movie at Dickie and Marylins' Stumbleseat Tavern at old Elsinore one night after jumpin'. That's "Old Elsinore" alright "AND!" a "Young Dirty Ed!!" Those "Combat RW" scenes bring back some old memories!! Love that shot from inside the A/C looking out at the strut on that Howard!!! 'Loved climbing out hand over hand to out past the jury strut to do a 5-man dangle!!!! Look close at the J/M in the airplane!! Try "Bob Sinclair!!" Blue skies people!!

Considering the weather today the "exposure" factor will probably be on the slow side!! There's still about 2 hours till "Ash Wednesday" so tune in a "street cam" and see what you can see.

  8. Hi All,
Laissez le Bon Temps Rouler!! "Let the Good Times Roll!!" It's a little after 1400 CST and ya' have about 10 more hours till it's "Ash Wednesday" and "Lent!!" Trouble is, if ya' can pull up New Orleans on yer "Telescreen," it's rainy and 38*F!! Still, the Parades are Rolling and Bourbon Street is in Full Tilt Boogie!! About 2000 hrs. the place to be is at the intersection of Boubon and St. Peter Streets in the Quarter!! Good Fun and stop into Pat O's for some good tunes in the Piano bar and a Huricane!!

  9. Hi Swoop,
If it's too windy to jump what makes one think that "Para-sailing" would be a good idea?? Oh well, the stories abound. I remember hearing a story from some of the guys from the old "Louisiana Skydivers" from Baton Rouge trying to "Para-sail" back when, probably about 1963 or 4. They had rigged up a "disconnect fitting" between the "V" bridle and tow rope. When whoever it was got towed up he was going to pull the release and fly the chute to a target they had set up on the ground. Think Fast now!! About a nanosecond after he pulled the release he realized that it should have been attached to the tow rope instead of the "V" bridle!! BONK!!! The fitting shot straight back and got him right between the runninglights on the forehead!! All he got was stitiches (nice scar!) and one hell of a headache!!! "Plus!" having to explain how all this transpired. Most of todays' jumpers weren't even born yet!!!

  10. Hi Sam,
Log em' and get em' signed. Nobody but assholes mind signing logs so blow em' off and get someone else to sign. Daze gone by after jumping we'd organize a "Dinner Load" to a near by eatery. eveyone would bring their logs and fill em' out and pass them around the table to get signed. Good fun!! It was 08May 1964 when I made my first jump. Do the math on how long ago. I've logged "ALL" my jumps! I have them all together in an old shoe box. Grab one, any one. Just open it to any page and read the remarks. Yeah, we did that!!! You will remember.

'Where 'ya located, is there a tunnel near by?? (Fill out your info on your profile!) 'Ya can write a song about what you are experiencing,"The old Level IV Bluez!!!" Every jump you make is a new experience and a chalenge. If the Sport was easy, we'd all get bored and take up Bowling;);):D Just keep at it! Just think, you're doing 60 second skydives!!! You could be on Staticline doing dummy pulls tryin' to get "Off the Rope!!!" (that was the Old Daze!!;);):DB|)

  12. Hi Norm and all,
It's about the MONEY not the Drugs!!! Before you can say "Bounce" everyone will have "Blow-n-Go's" in all our vehicles!!! A buddy of mine in Texas said they have so many people with DUI's that have them in their cars that there are lines of people with them in their "Drive thru" once a month test stations!! $50 to $100 per pop. Takes 5 minutes to check one, that's $1200 to $2400/hr.!! It's a racket.

'Jerk my chain why don't ya' with that jpg of the Beech in Full Battle Dress!! TEN MAN and/or TEN WAY we did it!! 'Guess it got kinda chilly up there in Ohio during the "Cold Months!!" I remember looking at the OAT Gauge (Outside Air Temp) in the Old Beech at Old Elsinore at 13K one chilly Calif. Dec. Day. It was only -30*F at alt!!. I know you guys had to beat that one by a bunch!!

  14. Hi Lucky,
Yup there have been a few. I posted a couple in Steve1's Scary stories thread. Did one from 12.5K New Years' '68 at Old Elsinore. Me, Frenchie Babineaux, Dale Moench, Gary Douris and Cho, Gus Norberg (pilot) flying Howard 418. I spotted, got out and hung strut. Don't know what was going on in the airplane but someone started yelling GO! GO! so I left, popped my Navy Mk IV, MOD 0 night flare and got a two way with Frenchie. We were waiting for the others to make the "Star" when I looked down past Frenchie's reserve and could see the front porch on that house across Corydon street from the airport. The reason why I could see the front porch and screen door on the front porch so well was the nice little light above the screen door that I could see so well!! Just happened to also see Frenchie's reserve mounted altimeter and the needle was going into the red, 'guessin' about 12 to 1500' HELL it could have been a Grand?? I yelled PULL! pushed Frenchie away and dumped!! Got open did a couple of turns and landed in the pitch black darkness!! Got up, there was frost on the ground and heard Frenchie yell,"Hey Deli, I broke my Leg!!" The spot was out in the field between the covered packing tables and "That House!" 'must have been pretty good, Douris got a night dead center on that pea pit by the packing tables. Finally got Frenchy carted off to the hospital and got all the gear policed up and made it to the Rumble Seat for a beer!! Happy New Year '68!!
The face of Old Elsinore has changed, all that's left of the Hanger is the slab, the house across the street is gone and so is the old Rumbleseat. But we did the dive. Oh Yeah, we weren't alowed to have any New Years Eve beer before the jump either!!!

  15. Hi N C,
Check out some of Carl Boenish's early movies, "Masters of the sky" and "Skydive." I forget which one has some people doing static line jumps from the old "Norsepig!!" Those were from 3 grand!! On low celing daze 3500' at Scare-us-valley, Bob Webb our pilot would do "Torpedo Runs" at the base of the clouds!! We'd launch facing diamonds, donuts and such and "surf the propblast!" for 10 seconds or more!! 'Still get open by 2500'!! SKYDIVE and have fun!!

***I generally call it 'coffee flavored milk', but 'drink' will do just fine.

I'm a half coffee/half skim milk girl. Coffee flavored milk pretty much describes mine but I can't go without it in the morning!

I'll try pretty much any mild to medium roast type (not flavored) that's in a K-Cup. I'm lazy.
    Hi Karen,
Since you like your coffee/milk mix 1/2-1/2, next time you get to New Orleans, stop by the Cafe' Du Monde on Decatur St. down by Jackson Square. Their Cafe' Au Lait (Cafe-O-Lay) is the traditional 1/2 coffee and 1/2 hot milk poured together. 'Gotta' get some Beignets too! (Ben-Yea's) (little square fritter like donuts with powdered sugar). FMI Google Cafe Du Monde.

    Hi-5,
Good coffee is what ya' like. I grew up in SE Louisiana so the local stuff is always "Strong!!" The chicory thing is also local and from New Orleans, Community coffee has a "New Orleans Blend of Coffee and Chicory" that's my favorite. Now for Espresso or Capuccino look out!! Twas a place in Costa mesa Ca., don't thnk it's still there, Diedriches Coffee!! They had a great selection!! Now for a Capuccino, fix up your Krupps machine and get it going. Next get a 12oz. Beer mug and put in a jigger of Irish Cream, Coffee Liquor, Dark rum and some Amaretto or the like. When the steam comes up, froth up the liquor and then pour the whole caraffe of espresso over that. You can add a bit of whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon if you want. I call it a "Cutaway!!" Enjoy!!

    Hi-5,
Glad ya' like it!!! There are several different Louisiana Coffee and Chicory blend makers available, "Lousiane," "CDM," "French Market," (if they still make it?) and "Community." Community makes several different blends and roasts and has ground and whole bean available. FMI and to "order!!" they have a toll free # 800-525-5583!! I fine grind some of Community's dark roast whole bean for my capuccino's!!! Good stuff!!

The info is there, it's just up to the individual to look at it. One place for some early history is the "Blast from the past" section on the Air Trash web site. The "Scary stories from the old days" thread here on the H & T Forum will raise a few eye brows! Find a copy of "Masters of the Sky!!"
