  1. I usually just put a 10 lb sock full of lead weight down my pants. I dont have to worry about it coming out in freefall and it makes me pretty popular with the ladies BTW, since I recently got into RC airplanes as well, I have found that there are people out there who like to buy custom/mass produced items and then there are the tinkerers that like to make everything themselves and experiment with what does or does not work. Without both types where would we all be today? Its America Dammit, do what ya wanna do. ***How come all the rich kids get to make all of the jumps?***
  2. I have been getting emails wanting to know more about this so to make it better understood; I am not affiliated with selling/buying/trading/testing or anything else having to do with the VIGIL, I simply received this email from [email protected] about 2 hours ago. I guess I should have been a dealer cause I could have already sold 2 of them
  3. ****UPDATE**** Here is what I found out this morning, the order form that I sent in had the reserve size changed from a 150 to a 160 due to a misunderstanding of Sunpaths new sizing chart. I also found out that there is a 2" length difference but no width and depth difference between a J1KL and a J3. So, after mulling on it over the weekend I decided this. 1. The extra ten feet of reserve canopy might be helpful and in no way could be detrimental to my health. 2. The way the Odyssey is built is that it is short and since I have such a long Torso that extra 2" makes it easier to reach my BOC Deployment handle. 3. My dealer was cool as hell about the whole situation and since he really took care of me before the sale he also said he would build me another rig if I wanted due to the mixup. I guess it was just meant for me to have that J3 and I am going to keep it. Besides, it is Damn beautiful!!! ***How come all the rich kids get to make all of the jumps?***
  4. I appreciate the responses but Javelin containers are not sized like they used to be. Now there is a J1KS and a J1KL, the simple J1 no longer exists. A J1KS is basically the same size as the original J1 but a J1KL is .5 inches longer to allow for packing a larger main but keeping the smaller reserve. A J3 is a full 2 inches longer than a J1KL and 2.5 inches longer than a J1KS. I guess the biggest quesion is whether or not 2 inches is going to matter. (Outside of the bedroom anyway ) ***How come all the rich kids get to make all of the jumps?***
  5. Just need help making up my mind. I ordered a new Javelin Odyssey a while back and it came in today. I opened the box and man was it beautiful, Navy blue with Red and had yellow pinstripes with the silver harness. It looked even better than I had though it would. Anyway, I started checking it out and then looked on the spec sheet under the reserve flap and it said J3. I almost got sick right there because I specified a Sabre2 170 main and a Smart 150 reserve which would have been a J1KL. So now I am torn about what to do. Keep the rig because I dont want to wait forever on another one or call up Sunpath and see what they will do. I even called Rick at Sunpath before I placed the order and he said that if the rig came in with a 170 main and a 150 reserve then he would definately size it as a J1KL so what happened? How much of a difference is there between a J1KL and a J3 as far as dimensions? I weigh 190lbs so maybe it would be better, what about resale, somebody please help me make up my mind!!!!!!!!!!!!! What would you do? ***How come all the rich kids get to make all of the jumps?***
  6. Sorry, misread your post, thought you were saying that you repaired the pop top due to the color not being in stock anymore at Sunpath. BTW, how do you go about separating the PC from the spring. ***How come all the rich kids get to make all of the jumps?***
  7. I should have been more specific, the tear is actually in the parachute type fabric and not in the pop top itself. The problem is that the tear is about 4 inches from the pop top and How would you get to it to stitch/patch it up? There is this HUGE spring in the way
  8. I have a Javelin and unfortunately I had to cut away my main the other day and go to my reserve. The Pilot Chute landed in the top of a big tree and while retrieving it I tore about a 1" long place in the fabric near the Pop Top. My buddy (not a rigger) said this can be patched but since it is my reserve pc should I buy a Brand new Pilot Chute or get it patched? ***How come all the rich kids get to make all of the jumps?***
  9. I used to have an old style Javelin before I bought this one. I had it when sit-flying was all the rage and never once did that reserve cover pop open. It was a great idea to make them tuckable but the untuckable ones are hard enough to get open just sitting on the ground. ***How come all the rich kids get to make all of the jumps?***
  10. I have an older Javelin that I just purchased. I am going to get the soft cutaway housing replaced with metal and a new BOC with bridle guard put on. Unfortunately you cannot get the reserve modification to make the pin protector flap tuck in. I still have 3 questions. #1. Are there any other mods that would improve the rig? #2. The rig already has a pocket on both sides for the riser tabs to tuck into. Does Sunpath have a way of improving this for freeflying? #3 Since the rig was manufactured in 1994, what is the life expectancy? Or will Aggie tell me that when he gets it? ****Never mind, I just saw the thread that already asked that question***** ***How come all the rich kids get to make all of the jumps?***
  11. Ok, is it just me or is this picture too hideous for words http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/jump.cgi?ID=2143&view=Image&d=1 ***How come all the rich kids get to make all of the jumps?***
  12. Those slow openings remind me of my first canopy, a sabre 170 with a pocketed slider. It used to snivle like crazy for about 1000 feet and then open right up. It used to scare the hell out of my wife on the ground, she always thought i was going to have a malfunction on every jump.
  13. First off, thanks for all replies. Anyway, I found a rig for sale, it is a Javelin J2 size C17 that was manufactured in 1994, it is in pretty good condition although it is electric blue which has faded a lot. Also, since it is a 94 model it doesnt have the tuck in reserve flap or the newest mods to make it a modern freefly rig. It is BOC and it has Mini risers(not stainless) it is not articulated and it does not have a cypress. Next, the reserve is a Glide Path firelight which I know NOTHING about except it has 0 jumps, is blue and was also manufactured in 1994. Anyone have any info on this reserve? Last but not least, it has a stilleto 150 with around 200-250 jumps on it but the lines still look good and the canopy is still very crisp. The stilleto was also manufactured in 1994. Basically the rig is still in one piece from when it was bought new. So, what would this rig be worth? I am really interested only in the canopy but what is the rig worth as a whole or if I parted out the container and reserve? what is the main worth? These are the questions I need help on. Thanks guys.....and gals..... p.s. sorry but I dont have any pictures. ***How come all the rich kids get to make all of the jumps?***
  14. I put in a post earlier asking for opinions on whether I should get chest rings on the new Javelin Odyssey that I am ordering. One fellow said and I quote ". If you do mostly RW, I recommend rings, if you do mostly freefly then don't use them. Reason being 1) Rings make it easier / more comfy to "move" your upper body which is good in RW 2) But rings could increase risk of rig coming off your shoulders in freefly at high speed. Now, I am more confused than ever about getting those chest rings. Maybe this is just one of those things where there isnt a right answer. All you freeflyers out there with chest rings, had any problems??? ***How come all the rich kids get to make all of the jumps?***
  15. Javelin puts the size of the parachute that will fit in each container on their website instead of the actual container measurements. So, what are the measurement differences between a J1KS and a J1KL and are these differences visible to the normal person? The Sunpath website says that both will hold the same size reserve but that The J1KS is for a 135-150 sqf canopy whereas a J1KL is for a 150-170. What happened to the days when a J1 was a J1 Also. even though its not rated for it, could you fit a Sabre 170 into a J1KS???? ***How come all the rich kids get to make all of the jumps?***
  16. Ok, I give up, what the heck does that mean and how does it answer the question? ***How come all the rich kids get to make all of the jumps?***
  17. I had a Javelin resized a couple of years ago, ended up spending about $300 with reserve repack and everything.... ***How come all the rich kids get to make all of the jumps?***
  18. Ok guys, I am ordering a new Javelin Odyssey from Mike at American skydiving systems this week and I have a question. Are Chest Rings a good or bad thing? I searched through all of the posts over the past 2 years and this subject has been pretty well discussed in general terms. The problem is that noone seems to have a good answer. Now that it has been a year since the last post I read, are chest rings a good idea and or, what do you think about yours? Remember, I am asking about an Odyssey but if someone has some good advice I sure do need it. I want to do the right thing spending that $1600.... ***How come all the rich kids get to make all of the jumps?***
  19. Hello all, my question is this, I recently bought a PC110 and was all excited about getting one of those helmets where the camcorder mounts on the side like the bonehead models. I was wanting to start doing video and shooting some stills of my buds. Then, I heard about two people recently killed because of riser entanglement or something on their helmets. Also in the same weekend two guys at the dz had their wide angle lenses snapped off of their side mount helmets. Now, is this a common problem and if so what about the people who are not having the problem? what are they doing different? I would love to shoot some video but I am not about to get myslef killed over it and I dont have 200 bucks to spend on new wide angle lenses or 1500 on a new camcorder. Suggestions and experiences please! thanks..........
