  1. Hey Thanks Guys -- There is that CRW Dog spirit again, someone has a question and *bam* it gets answered right away by good buddies! We will be using the lighter end / novice wing-load of 1.30 as mentioned and for those that would like to attend I highly recommend signing up so that you'd have a canopy assigned to you. Availibilty is pretty good but certain sizes are the most commonly needed. Eric --Thanks for being so awesome to jump with, I'm coming back for you soon! (UNC 4-stack anyone?) Chuck --Why not make it down to Chester and jump with the newbies and some experienced CRW Dogs coming? Take Care, Frank
  2. I agree with the recommendation, I do CRW there now and then as well as spend time in the loft there with Gus. I am not there a great deal as I chase CRW events all over but I am also organizing an event in a few weeks. Steve, Judy and James are good to make contact with --they all work for the DZ owned by Danny Smith. It's a cozy DZ with a mellow atmosphere and also holds CASA events about once a month but have a nice Otter the rest of the time. Hope you find it's a good place to enjoy yourself once you are there. Take Care, Frank

Have most or many of the areas without power started to come back on? Is it going to take weeks and weeks again? Our thoughts have been with you all. Any word on which if any of the DZ's are operating or trying to get operational very soon? Sounded like most of the airplanes had been flown safely away but with limited news on damage and flooding it seems uncertain about when they can even open again. Then there is also that monster IVAN looming in the distance, thoughts and prayers with everyone that it isn't a deja vu for you all. Take Care, Frank
  4. Will be good to be there Johnny, looking forward to having you and the others that have signed up so far in the camp! Great CRW to be learned and even better jumps to be had. Spread the word!
  5. Experienced CRW Dogs are highly encouraged to attend and join in with us and /or do some great fun jumps with each other! Would really like to see if we can keep the Otter full of CRW for the weekend. Last weekend was a great beginner camp especially focusing on the collegiate group at CSS, was a great success and made quite enjoyable by both the talent of the newbies that attended along with a few CRW Dog buddies joining in the mix and giving special attention to the camp! Great dives were made and several awards (4-stack) were earned, lots of smiles and CRW fellowship all weekend! Let's make the next one an even greater success! Go to the Skydive Carolina site and check out the details!

  7. Hi Dawn, My pleasure! You were all A+ CRW newbie/students and a blast to have been with along with my CRW buddies that jumped in to assist. Your enthusiasm and great attitudes made coaching so much more fun and I'd like to credit all of you for being as responsive and "natural" to CRW as you were! Congrats on the 4-stack awards and thank you all for making it so easy for me to teach you! Send me your group photos also, ok? Take Care, Frank Hello also to our event "hostess" Emily and to the other particpants --Jen, Eric, Matt as well as CRW "brothers" Jackson, Jimbo, Steve and Jens. Btw, get the word around that there is opportunity for me to repeat this again with some advanced scheduling and there is another beginner camp that I am doing at Skydive Carolina in Chester, SC in a few weeks --See their site for details!

We saw that about Lake Wales area, damn. There is still a fundraising effort going on for them based on the first hit, can't imagine what they'll have to endure this time! It's their safety that is of greatest concern of course so let's hope they have evacuated to safer places. Prayers all.

Based on where some of you are, is there any chance that getting that kind of think online via FedEx is possible before the worst of this? Maybe we could help with a few batteries or staple items to a few, especially if there is a child or pet in the house.
  11. Agree with you on the matter of the helmet rant. This post started as a tribute to a man of great talent in his field, I too would like to keep to the original topic and share our well wishes to his family while paying respect. If there is use for a seperate topic on helmets while on a bike or in the air, let's share those thoughts there. Was thinking that many of us might have a favorite bike Larry built or an event we saw him attend, etc and to celebrate what he did in life we could uplift him in memory rather than criticize. I particularly liked when he did a "build off" with Billy Lane, the two bikes really did make it hard to chose a favorite but Larry's old style did have the edge for sure! Much Respect Larry, Rest Well.
  12. Hello -- Looking forward to being there with you and others to share some CRW Basics! If there is anyone that you didn't have an opportunity to include please let them know about it too. Thanks for asking me to spend the time with you all. Take Care, Frank PS --I'm going to have some of the Canopy Formation Team shirts that survived the Hurricane in LW available for contributions to the team. They are leaving for Croatia soon.
  13. Had a couple mins during lunch and needed to post this for Betty, she talked to my wife this morning and asked that it be shared -- ******************************************************************* Many Thanks from Betty with regards to the contributions thus far, she has been sending messages to be shared with the group to my wife and I as well as Gail and a few others all week. You can sure tell how grateful they are at FSC to have all of us pulling for them when we get another update. She told my wife this morning to tell everyone that she sees this as a chance to make the place even more special than ever and that our skydiver support is far greater than simply contributions of cash. She said that we are what she goes to work for everyday and promises that we will all love the new place as much as ever, if not more. 14. Thank you all so much We are trying to do our best here and we are SKYDIVING today! This will help everyone spirits, we do have modulars up and running on generators and we will survive. Thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts. Betty xo
  15. Thank you and yes, it is very hard to get insurance for dropzones and their content and especially in Florida. The moment you mention, skydiving equipment, for your business they immediately back off. Individuals can get insurance for personal property {equipment, etc.) but for businesses it is very hard. I have been in this business for 35 years and believe I have tried to get coverage of any kind for many years and have been declined time after time. If you know of a company please let me know. Thank you, Betty Hill xo Owner,Florida Skydiving Center
  16. All means of showing support is special and you are correct, business should but often can't have all their bases covered. The Red Cross is a great place to send help of all kinds, I support their efforts also. What I think the group working so hard to help FSC is also focused on is some truly directed benefits for the now homeless /jobless (temporarily) employees that they see as "family". We have all been told that a few of them were in an area closeby that was as devastated as the hanger was and all contents /belongings were lost as well. If we all could, I'm sure many of us would do more but even pennies count when it's needed by PEOPLE and not just the business that employs them. Main thing is, GIVE FROM THE HEART WHAT YOUR WALLET CAN ACCOMODATE. Pick your channel to give through as it is a truly personal and special choice. Take Care All, Frank In addition to the Red Cross Information that has been provided by the posting DZ.com member. The information again is -- If you can help, there are a few ways to send your support. 1. 18. They are in touch with FEMA, unsure what part of the expenses will be helped as to the business but they think that there will be a large amount of costs above and beyond that. On a personal note, they have displaced employees that lived onsite in staff housing I believe and all was lost on that account. Human needs are food, clothing and shelter so contributions to that part of the effort will be heartwarming and most appreciated.

  21. This message was shared with the CRWDog email list that many of us are on and like CRWMike, I am sharing the word to all regarding the current situation and needs. Take Care, Frank ************************************************************************* Subject: Lake Wales, Florida Skydiving Center As many of you already know, on Friday, August 13th, the category 4 Hurricane Charley hit Florida's west coast with winds of 145 mph. It cut through the state, right through Lake Wales, destroying the Florida Skydiving Center. The US CF Skydiving team was at Florida Skydiving Center, practicing for the upcoming World Championships in Croatia next month, when the hurricane hit. Thank God no one was killed or injured at the drop zone, although we are getting reports now that, so far, 16 people throughout Florida were killed by "Charley". The past two days, the US team has been there with the owner, Betty Kabeller-Hill and Roger Hill, going through the debris, searching for whatever they can salvage and cleaning up the terrible mess left by this destructive storm. They've had no power in the area for 3 days now and their cell phones are not getting a signal. Raul said the top half of the tower w as on the ground. The phone line is working now. Betty said half the hanger is gone. "We've lost everything", she said. She also told me that there is no insurance. Some of the Mobile homes at Florida Skydiving Center were smashed to pieces and some were flipped over. People who lived at the drop zone are now homeless and I guess jobless too. The Skydiving community has been a family, always helping each other out in times of need. Here is an opportunity for us to reach out and help these people, our family, in their time of suffering and need. We've set up a "Florida Skydiving Center Disaster Fund" and a "FSC Employee Disaster Fund" for the people who lost their homes there. If you can help, please specify on your check or money order, the Disaster Fund you are contributing to and send your donation to: Florida Skydiving Center c/o Betty Kabeller-Hill 400 El Camino Drive #203 Winter Haven, FL 33884 If you want to use a bank wire transfer, Florida Skydiving Center already had an account set up for registrations that you can use. I'm going to contact Elizabeth Fowler about using the Pay Pal account she has set up to help skydivers in need. Anyone who can come out to help in the cleanup efforts, your help will be appreciated. 22. Man oh man, I'd love to make that one but can't. Things have been slow in the painting business this summer, need some houses to paint!
  23. There are several great riggers in the CRW community, maybe send an email to the moderator of this forum and have her share your request /need with the email list we often get news and information on?
  24. Glad you did get your main back Russ, but also that there were no injury issues related to the cutaways we heard took place over the weekend. See you later this week.
  25. Really looking forward to being back in Perris after a few years, flying out on Wednesday! Figured it would be cool to take care of all the "paperwork" etc and be ready for a great weekend! See you dawgs out there!
