    Over 1.4? :D:D I have yet to make it to 1.0. :D

Currently, my wingloading is 0.8 to 1. I am looking at buying a new (or new to me) canopy this year which will bring my wingloading up to 1 to 1. It'll be a long time (if ever) that I get up to a 1.4 or higher.

I was jumping a 190 loaded at 1.05 jumping in high winds and breaking an ankle. That put me out for two months.

I made 8 jumps the last two weeks on a Sabre 230, I plan to downsize to a 190(I am putting a Sabre2 190 in my rig) and stay there for a while.

    I don't think I will jump a canopy smaller than a 170.

Mostly....if you skydive for a living you'll be a poor Ramen eatin bitch with $30K worth of gear.:D Is it worth it? That's your decision. It isn't to me....I'll be honest. :S

Why not try working as a Tandem instructor on weekends before taking the leap?

Has anyone else done the Body for Life by Bill Phillips? I am 2 months into it and I have dropped all fat and I am starting to get really big muscles. Its kind of a chore at first (especially eating 6 times a day)but once you get used to the program, it gets easy. This program really works! Here is my DL pictures from 1999 at 200lbs and last June at 165. I didnt realize how fat I was till I saw these together.

    Mike

I followed the program for 2 months about two years ago. My goals were a little different though.

Started at 165 12% body fat and went up to 185 at 4.8% body fat. I am now 183 lbs and 11% bodyfat.

Bad thing is that all the fat is around the waist. Oh well, when I can run again, I'll burn as much of that fat as I can. First though I need to quit eating Hershey's with almonds.

  4. I meant what can you do on the ground so you jump knowing that you probably won't have a PC in tow. Since we are talking about packing.

I don't understand how cutting away a pc in tow would be Clearly beneficial. Not cutting away could result in entanglement, reserve fabric burn or a two out after reserve deployment.

Cutting away could cause the same things except the two out. It's not like the main is gone if we cut away. There is'nt enough drag.

  5. I understand what you are saying.

It is difficult to not get tempted when you are looking at 8 mph winds, blue skies and soft wet earth. Knowing that I'll be in a place that only has warm temps for a month (out of the year, and a job in which I might get paget at anytime)did'nt help either.

I will stay off the air until I am better.

P.S: I did'nt jump after that high flare landing.

  6. I visited the doctor on tuesday to talk about getting the screws in my ankle removed. He said Monday the 9th at 11:00 AM.

So the screws are out, see pics.

I desperately wanted to get back in the air, its been more than 2 months since I last jumped. So last saturday(calm winds ~10 mph, blue skies and a very wet and soft earth) I jumped twice(instructor jumps). I was cleared to jump by myself on the first one but needed sign off on some items on the A-License checklist.

It was great to be back in the air. My tailbone survived because of the wet and soft earth. I was on radio and asked my instructor for flare help.

When I heard flare on the radio, I buried the toggles
and sank the last 5 ft. I had to get the ankle away from the earth and landed butt first. The jump suit had a 2" thick layer of dirt on it around the butt area when I took it off. Things would have been different had it been dry.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. . .

I am looking to buy my own gear when my income tax money comes in and I was SOOOO curious about that because I didn't see it on any other container sizing charts. . .

    Whew. . .I feel better. . .lol

Income tax money comes in?? :o

Good question. I was curious about what those numbers meant, never asked because these numbers did'nt come up when I ordered a new Mirage.

You can read about the measurements that you need to fill in on a custom rig order form here. I think having these measurement numbers handy might help the guys at Mirage give you better advise on what size harness would fit you best.

Edited to add : I am assuming you are trying to buy one from stock/Pre-owned?

I think the best answer is to go ask your DZO, S&TA, or your instructor.

The DZO recommended a Sabre 2 170. But then he was going to sell me one so....;)

Steve(DZO) was right when he said I could jump the 170. I never had problems with canopy control. Based on what he saw he was making the right call. The above statement by me was a way of assigning blame to individuals other than myself.

I was blaming people other than myself for getting injured, No one told me to jump the 170, I searched the whole DZ for it and found it in a corner in the packing room, the harness seemed a little uncomfortable, but I did'nt care. I had to jump the 170.

After sitting out three loads and listening to and laughing at jokes like, "On days like these the experienced people sit out and watch the inexperienced people get experienced" and knowing that some of the instructors were sitting out, I still had to get on that load.

It's easier to place the blame than to own up. Hopefully I have set the record straight.
