Excellent!!!! In all, our low timers at the DZ ask questions to instructors. I think we have prepared them well enough to seek out advice from those in the know. I often have students come to me and ask if the advice they were given is correct....perhaps another student told them. I think if you prepare students from the get-go for the potential hazzards of this type of thing, they will be more cautious.

I have about 600 jumps on my Crossfire and that thing is smoooooooooth. On opening I can just lay back in my harness and hang while watching the canopy slowly and extremely sofly open. There is nothing better that I have expereinced.
You just can't go wrong with a Crossfire or Spectre.

What exactly do you do? Are you at work? I know, you can read the SIM. Now that is "fun".

I can certainly commiserate with you. Landings can beat the hell out of ya.

I hope you are finding some of the advice helpful. Have you also considered getting a bit more radio help? It may be useful to you to have an instuctor set you up or flare you for a few times until you have a better idea. I know it may not be the "coolest" thing to do after having been off student status, but if you are really having that much difficulty, it is a suggestion. In the long run, better to be in one peice than to be "cool".

What do you mean?

Are you looking to buy one that is set up already, or just suggestions for what helmet will be compatible? I have a TRV 27, only slightly bigger than a 25, that I mount atop a Bonehead Optik. Works well enough.

Keep in mind, too that, according to many, players from different regions may have compatibility problems and may not play a DVD from the US....you know, like the PAL vs NTSC.

Good post. We are in the process of offering DVD's as well. I think the better quality is worth it to most customers.

Tell me, if your authoring software creates menues and such, are you offering that as well??

Oh my, there is actually a jumper who does not know what a SIM is??? Startling!

I'm going on 1500 and personally, I think all jumpers should reaquaint themselves with the manual. It would be a great oportunity at Safety Day to have a Q & A on topics from the book. I Try to read much of it during the winter months just to keep in tune with safety procedures, etc. Don't want to be caught with my pants down, so to speak.

I don't care how many jumps someone has, it's always a good idea to review malfunctions, sit in the harness, review the student progression. I'm always jumping with new folks and I really don't want to feel stupid when they ask me questions about the new program.

So get a manual, y'all, or at least borrow one to keep current. Just my two cents.

Let's face it, retailers mark stuff up hundreds of percents.

Sucks may not be exactly the best word....you can be a little harsher than that.

The bottom line is that if proper instruction isn't given to new folks, we can see an increase in injuries and perhaps deaths in our sport.

Isn't this exactly why USPA modified the first jump course and every category thereafter. Students should not be getting through these levels or obtaining licenses without basic and lifesaving knowledge. This is not only a disaster waiting to happen, but it sure as hell doesn't give us much credibility.

I would encourage all students who are basically consumers to ask questions, get what you pay for, etc. When you go to a doctor, don't you basically do the same thing? Evaluate the instruction you recieve and if it isn't adequate, go somewhere else. Your life could depend on it.

If you like it and can fly it safely......keep it.
Personally, I sold my Diablo because I thought it was too twitchy and couldn't get a good flare out of it. I did like the snappy turns, though.

so many people have different opinions about everything. If it works for you....well, you know. It is good to soak in all the information from others, however. I find you can learns lots this way.

Your best bet is to hang out at the DZ as much as possible. Live there onthe weekends if you can. There will be so much that you will hear and don't have a clue about.....but ASK. Interupt and ask them what it means.

It's pretty difficult in the initial stages to learn all the jargon related to this sport, but it will come....as long as you keep asking. If you don't ask...it may just get you killed one day

I have this policy as well.

Insurance has sky-rocketed out of control. No one can afford to do anything anymore.

Has anyone heard any more on the issue about HMO's not paying up if a person is injured doing high risk sports. This was an issue a couple years back. At safety day, we had everyone sign letters and send them in to revolt this.

It certainly took care of the dropped frames. I have ZERO dropped frames. I am smokin now.

Now I just need another monitor and I will surely be sitting in style.

I had a 190 PD, hwich I also used for bridge day. I think I still have that ole thing somewhere.

I've jumped both, and I think the Spectre gives a much nicer opening.
