  1. I like the idea of the internal handle.

The only question would be the PC size for use with a skydiving canopy and having a kill line.

I suppose 32" ZP k/l with an internal handle would be a safe bet.

Even though it may not be common, anything to prevent a PC hesitation or tow in a full flight deployment would be a no brainer.

I'll call around and see what they say.
    thanks a lot!

This is nothing I'm not already aware of

    a) most skydiving deployments are into a teminal or close to teminal airflow

A full flight deployment is the same in both environments in regards to airspeed.

This wasn't the focus of my post, I was asking for PC opinions if anyone has one to offer.

  3. Greetings fellow wingnuts!

I'm trying to gather some more opinions ahead of time so that I can upgrade my PC for use with the Vampire pouch and full flight deployments.

From the document "Getting into WS Base" (great article btw, thanks to those who put it together!)

"The PC should NOT have a hackey handle (or heavy handle). With a hackey PC handle there is the possibility of the bridle wrapping around the base of the handle. A heavy PC handle could contribute to PC hesitation."

I have seen this recommendation in other posts regarding hackey handles in the base environment, but what about the skydiving environment?

It seems that if it can happen in the base environment, it can happen in a skydiving environment as well.

I would think a PVC handle would present the least chance for bridle wrapping around the base, yet there are lighter handles, like the lightweight practice golf ball that Sensei Steve uses.
    Opinions?

    PC size and fabric:
ZP or F111? F111 would "stick" better in the pouch, I would think.
If I understand correctly, because of the large burble, you want larger PC canopy area, but F111 to keep the snatch force down?

What about compatibility with size/type of main canopy?

It would need to be a K/L collapsible for sure

    Bridle length:
Seems people are using anything from 8-10 feet

I currently jump a Spectre 170 lightly loaded at 1.15 ( which is awesome for "full speed ahead" deployments because of its soft, snivelly openings )

Current PC setup is a 28" ZP k/l collapsible with hackey and 9 ft. bridle.

Thanks in advance guys for any input/opinions!

  4. Portland BMI Steve Schieberl (ManBird) has been generous enough to come up to Skydive Snohomish and give first flight courses
on Saturday Oct. 16 for those interested.

Birdman's minimum requirements are 500 jumps or 200 jumps within the past 18 months.

There will be suits to fit a wide range of people, so don't miss the opportunity.

Just show up Saturday morning and be ready to fly.

    Thanks, Steve!

  6. Very curious to get more details on the suit, from someone who's actually flown one!
:)Is the body position any different from the S3?
Is the arm pressure in max flight comparable to the S3? ( or lighter, heavier )

Is the wing profile such that it requires use of a suit mounted pc pouch?
Does anyone have a more detailed description of the suit, features etc?

thanks in advance for any info!

  7. Up to 1.71 G/R in my Gti.
I'm going to keep trying to improve, but is there anymore room for improvement?

Winds aloft were L+V, forward speed 83 MPH average. (fall rate at 48 avg)
    3.6 miles.
    I used GPS and Steve's G/R calculator.

    http://www.deepart.org/code/counttracula/

I've started to learn to use the forward speed correctly and it's increased my G/R quite a bit.

Sucking in the gut, feeling the low pressure/burble on the stomach, sweeping the hands back to slice through the air, it all helps.
Forward speed is definitely your friend!

Anyone know what G/R the PF is expected to get?
    (compared to say, the S3?)

  8. Damn, that weekend was hot. I felt like a tired old dog. Thanks for the jumps!

Yep, just did the one flight with Kirk's S3 (which fit perfectly, thanks Kirk!)
Felt rock solid right out the door, spent 15 sec. sub 40, flew it down to 31, then made a banking turn toward the DZ (doh! not that low fall rate trap again :P )
The forward speed was noticeable right away and had me turning back sooner than I expected.

I borrowed an S3 this past weekend, which was a bit too small, so I had to "shrink" myself a little, but still managed over 2.5 mi in 2:20 from 13'3 dumping at 4. Need a good fitting suit and more practice.

My dinero for the PF is already set aside! B|
I'll keep the Gti forever though...I love it.

    (congrats on your recent jumps!)

Besides, 100 flights in, almost everyone stops going for the low score

Me too... I'm over it now :)Like the older birds here have said, focus on flying and the fall rates will come down on their own.
I struggled in the mid 50's trying to float, then gave up on that and started to go for better glide and came down to the mid 40's.
Stretch out the body and get that leg wing taught.
The super slow fall rates on my Gti don't last once the forward speed bleeds off. There's a balance there, it takes time to find.

Spotting myself out 2 - 3 miles taught me how to fly much more efficiently, but start out gradually and always know what the uppers are doing and where the canopy traffic is.
By the time I wait a couple of minutes to get way out, then over a couple minutes in the air, the tandems have usually landed already as I'm deploying.
Flying a straight line without any turns will help at learning your glide.

  10. way to go!

I'm experiencing the same thing with my GTi, that wobble on the upper body. Lately I've tried to do my best to just ride it out and it's put me in the mid to upper 30's for 6-7 seconds then I slowly creep back to the low 40's.( I need to build up my spindly arms!) I haven't tried gripping the wing tips yet, has that helped any?
With more forward speed my averages are around 45 and it's a nice smooth flight. What I look for is the turbulence and pulling on my suit over my butt (lift?) that seems to be the sweet spot.
I'm using the forerunner for timing the flights over 2 minutes, and for the ones under two minutes the protrack is within 1 or 2 seconds at the most.

Has anyone flown a Gti for 3 mins from 13'?

    Jim

  11. I contacted Doug Cox, writer of Photomaps, he hopes to add the capability to utilize the 2002 color photos from Terraserver (where they are available) within the next couple of weeks.

  12. Hey Steve! What's up?
Looks like you've been a wandering wingsuit gypsy lately.

There was a tailwind that day, probably 15MPH or so.
It was from 10'8 deployed at 3'2
It's nice to have the GPS to really know for sure what I'm doing.

Protrack read 47 MPH avg. 105 seconds.

I've started to feel this turbulence/pulling on my suit over my butt, then if I push a little further I start feeling a little unstable on the upper body, like a rolling sensation. This is usually where I'm in the low 40's
I try to fly just before this happens and it seems to be the best glide.

I'm definitely interested, I'll have to keep my eyes open for the next one...Kapollapalooza maybe?
That might be a good time to have a NW WS gathering, no?
