  1. Here's just a few.

Flying with a 60 knot tailwind, directly over the city of Snohomish. Ground speed measured by GPS at just over 150 mph. (in a Gti)
That's one city block every 2.5 seconds...I remember counting the blocks and laughing...

Flying in the rain (not a sprinkle, a downpour)
Doesn't sting a bit. Max out the glide, keep the head down and the rain hits the top of the helmet.

    Flying when it's snowing

The first WS balloon jump I did. Last one off, dead quiet, the sun rising behind Mt. Hood...

Flying at night. Reminds me of that old movie The Lost Boys...you really feel like a Vampire!

Flying next to a cloud, having a two way flock with your own shadow.

Probably the most scenic flight I can remember was a two way with Paul B. a long time ago. It was late in the day, scattered puffy white/grey clouds dumping rain, three different rainbows and a crescent moon against the blue sky. The contrasting colors and crystal clear visibility was hard to believe.

Exiting at 4K, dumping at 2.5...35 seconds later.

    Life is good :)

  2. Quote

A short 30min hike gets you the most altitude in the area and you land right back at the campground... as many times as you want, absolutely free!

If the weather conditions are good, how many jumps in a day could one expect to make at the Heliboogie?

How about number of jumps if only hiking / jumping at Smellveggen?

I'd like to maximize the number of jumps when I go there this summer and get the most for the travel expense.
Right now I'm thinking about 10 days there, with the Heliboogie in the middle of the visit.

Is the weather much better in July, August?
    thanks,

    Jim
    :)

  3. Dave- Yep, I'll be out Friday and Saturday- weather permitting.

Don't lie about the orgy Paul..you were there man!
    :P

    No girls unfortunately.
    ..umm... err..uh....
Perhaps I used the wrong word to describe the situation... I should go now.
    :P

  4. Attention all Seattle area wingsuit flyers- come on out to Snohomish Aug 13 + 14 for some flocks.

There will be demo Prodigy's and tracking pants / jackets for those interested.

I would like the focus of the weekend to be on flocking, but will also be doing first flight training with the Prodigy for those interested.
200 jumps within 18 months or 500 jumps total are the minimum experience requirements for a FFC (sorry, but this is not negotiable)

Please send a PM if interested in a first flight and check out the flight manuals and other articles on the Phoenix-Fly website so you can come better prepared!

I know there's plenty of good flyers around the state so please try to make it.

Let's get some flocks bigger than a 3-way around here for a change!

    :)
    Rock on,

    Jim

  5. 3.3 miles.... 10K down to 3400 ft.

You do get the perspective when you're actually looking at it in 3D and can tilt, zoom and rotate around it.
Straight up overhead view obviously is easier to judge distances, but if you know that dropzone you'd know by looking at the pictures that it's over 3 miles.

    :)

  6. Tried the beta version of Google Earth which will eventually replace Keyhole.
Just another option for anyone interested-

You can download directly from a GPS device now.
3D is really nice, but I hope they find a way to display the tracks in a straight line by connecting each individual track point.
Hopefully the released product will be more wingsuit friendly!

    :)Jim

  7. Congrats!
:)I'm from Oliver and will probably come up to Vernon and fly weekend after next.
I love the scenery there and the people are the coolest.
    I have a Gti you could borrow if you don't have a suit, but it's tall ( 6'3" )

  8. Wingsuit flying is it for me.
I made one non WS jump a couple months ago... a hop and pop.
    It felt weird.

This was my first non WS jump in a year.

Since my first wingsuit flight, I can count the number of non WS jumps on one hand.
I do what makes me happy.
    :)Jim
