We did a 100-way with two sitflyers. Also an 80? way with Eli in the center sitflying with a tube.

Yeah but this one was first and it is 106 I think. You are on this arent you?

Kallend, it was Mike and John.

But if you go by JPs definition (which I thought quite nice) - the free flyers are NOT docked on the formation. For all we know, the exited too soon after the previous group and just happened in on them... :)

So back to the original question - whats the largest hybrid per JP's definition? (i.e. docked freeflyers on flatflyers?)

Edited to add: We did a very nice 16-way hybrid at Raeford a few weeks back. See attached.

Does anyone know if the Raeford DZ will be running loads during the week? I'll be out there from Wed-Sun.

So I planned on coming out for the Golden Knights Black and Gold inter-service competition/boogie. But due to difficulties in manning it, they postponed it or canceled it. Just saw it on the GK website. I have my plane tix and leave planned - too late to cancel or change.

Anyone else in the same boat heading out that way? Maybe some folks will still be doing jumps at Raeford want to get together?

    Cheers,
    Steve-O

    Yep - we'll be jumping.

H-mm but i usually works, when FF comes first than canopies are distributed by altitude and all load landing in order (if there no spiraling monkeys)

I take exception with this statement. It is basically relying on vertical separation. If anyone in the first group has a premature deployment or if anyone in the second group has a high speed malfunction, this vertical separation is instantly negated.

Ask yourself how many premature deployments or high speed malfunctions happen each year. The only reason this is not a problem is because we put the slower falling (and therefore those that will drift more) out first.

If the trend of wanting to put FF out first due to the "altitude separation" continues, I predict there will be many more mid-air collisions at break off.

Ok.. I am preparing for 4-way meets this summer and have been doing alot of RW jumps. Lately I have been catching crap from other skydivers. I have been called that "RW" dude at the DZ. I am a decent freeflyer and am working on video too. I try to incorporate all facets of skydiving into my "regime". Just curious why if you are seen doing "belly stuff" you are hated on lately?

heh - let me know who is giving you grief...

but an in-air and in-classroom recertification?

You think that shit is free.

I said that USPA is upping our renewal fees anyway. They should cover this at least. Give us something for the increased price. I'm going to assume that really didn't read the post based on the other commets as well.

    Back to instructing. Later.

You should have separated the 4 points.
The only part I could agree with is the 1 year as coach before getting an I rating in any discipline.
The year as coach would be the probationary period for the other ratings.
I've seen alot more Tandem I's that scare me than anything else.

I agree with a one-year coach rating, but disagree with the current 6 hours of freefall and would rather see a minimum jump number.
    Why?
One person got his AFF rating after around 300 jumps, most of them wingsuit. He'd never once coached a student.

How about a different approach to this? What if there were a yearly recertification? Not the current pencil whip on the form (that I am sure most instructors are honest on) but an in-air and in-classroom recertification?

I put this out there after thinking about my time in the military - we shoot all the time. Be we still have to requalify on a periodic basis. If you don't make the grade, you go for remedial training until you do qualify.

Since USPA is continually upping the renewal fees all of the time, they could provide this mechanism to us as a way of justifying the increases. It would also generate the statistics everyone wants. If a group of AFFIs trained by certain I/Es consistently fail to requalify, then we have something to investigate.

I would be glad to do this as it would keep me honest and give me much needed quantitative feedback on how I am progressing as an Instructor.

    Thoughts?

There is a dirty little secret that USPA doesn't want anybody to know about.... that's the reason for the shroud of secrecy.

If you know something the rest of us don't out with it. If not STFU.

Fine. Glenn Bangs and Ben Butler have been long time friends. That's what I was told. There, it's out.
