  1. Hi, There have been threads about Hawaii before, but it seems not recently. I would like to go along with my whuffo friend, and have her do a tandem while I lurk it. I have 1,500 jumps so can probably convince them this would be a safe activity. Ideally I'd like to rent gear since I'm planning to do just one jump and don't want to transport my gear. Any recommendations on DZs which rent gear? Are there still 2 on the same airport on the North Shore? I jumped there years ago and rented gear but don't know if they still do that. It seems that there's one in Maui (freefall Maui) but I couldn't find a website. The phone number published online seems to be a fax number. Thanks! Tom
  2. The WFFC was the best event in skydiving. I know that numbers dwindled towards the end, but that was more than made up for by the increasing cameraderie each year, as I got to know more and more regular attendees. Yes, I bitched that numbers were down, that there were no vendors any more, or auction, etc. But now it's gone I really really miss it. Please bring it back, Don or anyone! Has anyone heard any rumors of a potential return?
  3. Guys, you HAVE to pay these guys a visit. We showed up and they welcomed us in, sorted us out with great rental gear, and made sure we made two back-to-back loads by packing their arses off between the loads. They could have just flown one load with the three tandems they had booked, but there would have been no slots for us. Instead, they made it two loads so we could do 2 jumps each. Now THAT is what I call friendly to sport jumpers. Oh, and super-nice people. And fantastic views.
  4. Anyone know if this is happening this year? A google search did not reveal it. Any other good events in Europe in July / August / September? Thanks! Tom
  5. I heard a rumor about a Perris Jet Boogie on the WFFC dates. Anyone else hear that? Tom
  6. Over in Europe they're calling it speed-flying or speed-riding. if you look for speed flying on youtube you find lots of good stuff, like speed flying down the eiger. here's a more beginner slope, although somebody died here doing this a couple of months back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGfWjY2P-A8
  7. Hi guys. I'm looking for a recommendation on a dz near (or quite near - max 150 miles) Orlando. Ideally it would: Be busy enough so we can jump all day on Friday. Be low-time jumper friendly (landing area, winds). Have a decent gear store. Offer free jumps. Thanks a lot, Tom
  8. I just looked at the Boogies calendar, and there don't seem to be any Easter boogies. Can this really be true? I don't want to go to Spain, by the way. Tom
  9. Hi all. I'm in the Bay Area and I'm looking to jump for tomorrow and the weekend. What is my best bet? Suck up the cold weather and go to Monterey Bay, or somewhere else nearby? Or suck up the long drive and go to Taft or Perris? How painful is the cold up here this time of year, and how many loads do the Northern Cal dzs really send? Thanks! Tom
  10. Hi - yes, definitely including the south. It needs to be nice weather, after all, and anyone who has spent a winter in New England knows that visor icing can be a problem. Thanks for the advice, I might well check out Z hills.
  11. Hi folks. I'm looking for a dz in the eastern US to come to for a long weekend. I'm looking for it to be: 1) Somewhere with reliable weather this time of year. Sunshine, low winds. 2) Busy enough that there will be plenty of jumping on a Friday as well as the weekend. 3) A good place for my girlfriend, who needs 2 jumps to finish her A-licence and who also wants to buy a jumpsuit. Thoughts? Tom
  12. Hi guys. Looking forward to Rantoul as always. Fingers crossed for the jet. Has somebody got a spare rig they could rent me for the WFFC? I'm looking for a pretty big container with a nice big docile canopy in it and preferably a Cypres. Doesn't need to be shiny and new or anything, but obviously needs to be serviceable. I'll be in the Chicago area this week and then going to the convention. I'll pay enough to make it worth your while. Message me directly if think you can help me out. Tom
  13. Hi folks. A buddy of mine who lives in Dallas wants to do AFF - he wants to crank it out and get jumping properly asap. Where do you recommend? Thanks! Tom
  14. Hi folks. Are there any boogies going on over the next few weekends? Preferably East Coast or Central. Thanks Tom
