    Hi there,

Unfortunately most DZ are closed now in France. Many people recommended Spain or Italy to me but make sure they do speak good english cause it's your "first" time. For the AFF I would recommend choosing a english-speaking country for you.
Did my tandem in New Zealand over the landscapes of Lord of the Rings. It was awesome! a bit far maybe? otherwise many people praise Florida here

Good luck and if you decide to do it in spring instead. You're welcome to my DZ near Bordeaux (cheap flights from London to Bordeaux with BA or Air France).

why r most french dz's closed now?
is it just for winter or something more sinister :P

From memory, I think a load of hibalstow guys are going to portugal in for New Year and it was top fun last year,

i hear the hibby boogies are amazin...

im from the uk myself, and am going to wait until next year to start my AFF at hibby..., but until then i'm working to save up some cash to pay for it!. i dont fancy doin it abroad because of the risk of finding it hard to finish the training... so i think i'm going to hope for a few weeks of good weather so i can get the course and consol jumps done. Fingers Crossed!

The classifieds section on dirtdive.co.uk is normally quite busy, Enclave is also worth a look but will be more US-centric.

    Gus

i never knew enclave had scnd hand gear. anyway, if the guy that started the thread needs more help i suggest looking around on these forums for another thread... i myself started one about this at some point in the last 6 months, and i know there are others. it is a bit hard tho finding accectable first rigs in the uk. we seem to get a few people trying to con people with little experiance into buying either very old rigs / chutes, or selling equipment not actually suitable for new peopple

F*ing SA bastards are stealing all the blue skies. It's been more than three weeks for me >:(. You jump pretty much all year around, yeah? Any seasonal differences with regards to jump frequency?

I bet the Americans are doing their part of Blue Sky stealing too. Grrr.

    When I become dictator...

at least we in the uk dont hog all the blue sky's... but then again we dont see much of it anyway at this time of the year

I have some extra money this week and want to buy myself an altimeter and some good gloves (it's getting way to cold) Where is a good place to get equipment at a good price? Any help would be great.

gear is pretty expensive but with gloves a lot of them are from different sports... so you might be able to get them cheaper on a specialised site other than skydiving ones.

as gear is so expensive i think i might start up a donate money to me fund... any takers?:P

  7. BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!'

i am new to skydiving... but i have noticed on a lot of threads that people respond by putting beeer!

i assume that this is a saying that means drink lots of beer coz u did summit gud!?!?!? but i dont really know..

can someone give me a proper definition (if any)?

    cheeers

CrazyDave, the first two to be arrested have not been charged with anything. They were released without charge last month. They are now on police bail waiting for the CPS to confirm if anthing is gonna happen.

------------------------ Yes i know... i just realised now after reading this and the mail i got that I made a big mistake... i obviously wasnt paying enough attention in my law study.
    -------------------------------------------------------
This new arrest is a new person altogether, unconnected with the first two. Again, still no charges although this time he's been arrested on suspision of both murder and of criminal damage, which did not happen last time.
------------------------------------------- I new about this one... he is from leeds i believe, but i didnt know about the criminal damage.

Wait a minute.... i was told by my law teacher that they have to be charged or released within 96 hours, i'm sure the news said they were charged.... aw well i guess i go law lessons and 'law and order' mixed up again!!!!

    Sorry For the mistake!

If the police do not have the evidence against these two then why were they arrested? Do the police not realise the implications their arrest will result in and the tarnish on their reputations?

It seems the only time the UK police are effective is when they are using their speed cameras. >:(

    are you not british?

I am.. and they are very effective in matters other than speed cameras. - they seem to be handling this situation very well.

they wouldnt have held them if they didnt have enough evidence, but if u guys remember they have now being charged with suspicion.. and released on bail.

    Hi all -

I'm planning on celebrating my 30th birthday by doing a one-time tandem jump. I figure I will either have a day I'll always remember or I'll go out with a bang! ;)

I also am the sole provider for my wife and two small children. I have life insurance through USAA--policy is almost 9 years old. My wife called them and was assured that I would be covered for a one-time jump and that no riders or review of my account would be required--as long as it's a one time deal. (They said this is very common.)

Wondering if anyone else has experience with this? I'm somewhat hesitant to take the word of the phone rep and there is nothing in writing in the policy mentioning this either way. (I did state on the app. that I didn't plan to skydive within the following five years, which have long passed.)

    thanks-
    Thomas

if your not covered then its most likly you can get some sport related life insurance via your local dropzone

I've yet to land in a plane, ever !
The ride to altitude doesn't bother me but I really don't like it, it's sorta like riding the bus to school, although I can't wait to get there, something I never said about school. I do think the take off rocks.

i have to admit the planes are ace!. I found it really wierd taking off in such a small plane the first time. and the takeoff was very quick i almost fell off the seat it was that steep!

allways wondered this..... on my tandem video the rip cord appeared to come off in the instructors hand..... is this true? if so then why arnt there huge piles of ripcord in farmers fields in the lancashire area?

If your tandem instructor was jumping a Vector Sigma rig then he did drop it. The drogue release ripcords on Sigmas are bungeed inside the housing, preventing it from being lost.

cheers... now if I ever jump off course then i will look for some gear.... not only can you jumnp out of planes. but u get al looky dip
