  1. The "trapped" line is to the outside of the cutter (not trapped between the closing loop and the cable channel) and would almost certainly have just slipped off during deployment. BUT it was sloppy, and really sloppy isn't good enough :S - I found this a couple of years ago http://www.sidsrigging.com/riggers/whats_wrong.htm - let's be careful out there riggers..... please! Rigger Please!

And then you'll cancel your voodoo order and you'll order a brand new racer (which can be at your door 3 minutes after you order).

    Dave

actually it's 3 minutes before you order it (we know what you're thinking)

I don't have any info to add on Palatka, but Deland is only an hour south of Jacksonville...

Only if you drive at 110 mph! ;) Give Palatka a call on 386 328 0606 and talk to Art, I think they're open Fri - Sun.

I wonder why they don't rework them or something along those lines for like half the price of a new unit.

because they want you to buy a new one ;)

  6. DISCLOSURE: I work for the manufacturer of that equipment

I jump a Firebolt sport main and a Firebolt tandem main and I don't think you'll have any issues with it as long as you respect the equipment. The Firebolt is very capable of flying sedately and calmly, but it is capable of some more exciting performance when heavily loaded. I weigh 170 lb and jump a 164 and I can float it back from a long spot and get excellent landing flare. Just my $0.02c

  7. This is a technique that some people use to avoid having the steering lines come around the front end and possibly create a line over. I know a few people that do this. I have packed thousands of parachutes and never done it, so consider it a "variation" on the pro-pack technique (if that's the right word) and optional. As long as you manage your lines carefully it's not "required" rather "optional"

  8. "I" would shut up and jump. You got to jump at a boogie when your rig was out of date. You have no real evidence that the dz rigger didn't do the work, and your own rigger has now certified the rig as airworthy for another 120 days. What is this dilemma you talk about :P

Let it go dude (and make sure that your rig is in date next time) ;)

  9. here are the Jump Shack Tandem Requirements
http://www.jumpshack.com/default.asp?CategoryID=TANDEMCERT&PageID=TC_02&SortBy=INDEX - the rate of pay will vary from dz to dz. One that I work at pays between $37 - $45 depending on the weight of the student, another pays $25 - if you pack the rig you can earn between $10 - $13 extra.

  10. Just to throw something into the ring here..... if you get a myspace account and befriend a lot of the indie artists out there, they will happily (often) give you permission to use their music. I have permission from The Machine Gun Blues, Dr. Das, Visionary Underground, Shaheen and many others, and I try to stick to that music.

  11. I'm with Rob. I sit "almost all" of my tandems down now, I can do it softly and easily. ALSO I am 5' 6" (I used to be 5' 7" till Fritz hammered me in on a recurrency jump) and most every student hangs WAY below me. I have stood up quite a few who dragged me down because they couldn't/wouldn't support their own weight or were just too freakin' tall. So now, I sit most of them down and nobody gets hurt.........

I am happy to announce Handsome Dave is back in the air and up to his old tricks. Not bad for a guy who just went through quadruple bypass surgery just a few months ago!

    Way to go Dave!

" I am too small " ? wtf does that mean...?

Oh, about 5'-6"ish and 160 lb ish small. Sure there are TI's that small, but not many. It's a tougher job for them than those who are bigger.

I'm 5' 6"ish and 170lbs.... I've taken them up to 6'8" (try getting THAT out of a 182 ;) ) and up to 240lbs.... I took a biggish guy that works for Blackwater, I had to manhandle him out of the door of the 182 basically picking him up and sliding his legs out. When we were under canopy he said "You moved me around pretty good for a little guy" - that made me nervous, he probably knew more ways to kill me than I could think of but I checked with him and he was impressed NOT mad, phew..............
