Negative. H/C is usually designed for 2(3) size of main canopy. So if your designed for 220, it might hold a 200-210 safely or a 240 quite tightly. If you want to go lower you have get a new H/C.

Pardon my ignorance but what is an H/C?

    Pete Draper,

Just because my life plan is written on the back of a Hooter's Napkin, it's still a life plan.... right?

  2. Obviously a lot of thought has gone into this, however it smacks of complicating something that has always been one of the simplest parts of an assembly. The moment I read "Caution do not route the ........." I cringed (although I'm glad that they put it in there).

It heartens me that people are always striving to improve the safety of our gear, but I think this is overkill..... keep thinking though

  3. yes! It's useful in certain conditions but it's not infallible, it won't make you live forever, it is not the holy grail and it should not be the overiding decision on whether you jump a certain rig or even whether you jump or not. It has been seen to fail, it is open to being installed incorrectly in the field.... etc etc. etc.

Does anyone know if a Javelin '96container is worth $750? Any help would be greatly appreciated.:)

Does that come with or without a RSL? (Sid runs for cover and ducks behind packing table):S

  5. I voted no, BUT I have a story! I took a young lady in the fall last year who, when showing me her arch bent over backwards from a standing position and touched her head to the floor (VERY flexible). When in the plane I reminded her to arch and (foolishly) said "You can't arch too hard" (hint: I won't ever say that again :o ).
We left the plane, her right foot came outside of mine and she bent herself in 2 (but very tense). I reached back for the drogue and grabbed her foot. I brought my arm back, ensured we were stable and belly to earth still, reached back and forced her foot out of the way and it was a struggle, during which we started to turn. I grabbed the drogue, tossed it, it hit her foot and bounced back merely brushing my arm on the way. It burned through the two layers and the lining of my beautiful Ouragan tandem jacket and seared across my arm, the burn scar is still visible 4 1/2 months later.
On the ground she asked me if she had arched hard enough.......... ;)

ps: Nancy Tremblay patched my jacket - I love that woman!

  6. that is really good work. We have a transcript of the Booth tandem waiver but your booklet is excellent. Easily adaptable for individual styles of exit etc. Well done!

  7. Just to put this out there for clarification. If you have a Racer the rig comes as standard WITHOUT a RSL. The RSL is an option. Also, because of the design of the 2 riser rsl, if you ordered a rig equipped with the RSL option, it can be installed and uninstalled by the rig owner without impacting the reserve pack job's integrity.

So now jumpers just need to declare that they are avoiding the possible emergency situation of 'unstable reserve deployment', and they can disconnect the RSL at will. Right? ;)

Nice one!!!!!!!! or you could always buy a rig that doesn't HAVE to...... (my boss puts her hand over my mouth and drags me away from the keyboard ):P

That's so cool!!!! So you jump with a secondary belly mont reserve?

yep, it's a double cutaway system, you can cut away the reserve (square one) too if you need to. Of course then you're left with the round on your belly :S most manufacturers have one they'll rent out through the dzo for safety day or for tandem I's who need to do a cutaway

  11. Dick Swanson (Handsome devil recently featured in Parachutist) never wears a helmet or goggles..... I've made a few jumps without and never wear them for hop'n'pops. Also, once I'm under canopy they come off (so do my tandem student's as long as their contacts are still in)

  12. That's interesting.... I looked at the pdf (and I'm not suggesting anything here, just observing) but there are so many basic spelling mistakes (including the name of the company) that it looks as though that letter was written by someone who uses English as a second language.

Oh wait! It was signed by Forsythe, that IS his second language!!!!!!:ph34r:B|

  13. Andy, I have long thought that one of the requirements for any "D" or "Master" license should be the requirement to inspect and repack your reserve and harness/container system under the guidance of a certificated rigger. I kid you not I had a "D" licensed skydiver ask me to explain exactly what a RSL did....... [:/]

has anyone every thought of using the swoop beeps for regular landing pattern marks. (JUST AS A REFERANCE) for turn points and visual altitude awarness? Like a learning tool? Or is this another bad idea of mine?

I use mine for just that purpose when doing tandems. I have it set for 1,000 ft, 750 and 500. I like that feauture better than the freefall warnings....;)

that's exactly what it is. easy to make. you can order a spool of the cord from paragear, then look up the 'no-sew fingertrap' technique. piece of dowel and an old guitar string to make a fid and you're in business!

"G" just asked me where the stitchless finger trap article went from my site, and to be honest I don't know [:/] but the Jump SHack version is still on line herehttp://www.jumpshack.com/default.asp?CategoryID=TECH&PageID=Nosewtrap&SortBy=DATE_D

I didnt see that one on the lineup. John Sherman's got one called "Addressing Opening Shock Problems." Think thats the one? There's another one on the 8th called "The use of load cells during R&D Parachute evaluations" but that is put on by Ignatius (Kappie) Kapp.

The lineup can be found here for refference:

I've only briefly looked over the schedule, but it looks like jumpshack is hosting a couple of seminars. Do you know which one this information will be presented at? Thanks.

I believe it's called "The Anatomy of an opening" I think he'll have the datalogger and the vest that we wear to hold it connected to the load cells and altimeters on hand to show people, and I think they'll also have that for view on The Jump Shack stand. I got a sneak preview of the presentation the other day (he's still adding to it" and it's well worth checking out....

I'd interested to know as well. I was having a conversation about this post earlier and we got to thinking that efficiency doesnt really mean a whole lot by itself. I am curious to see what kind of numbers were collected on force generated. :)

we've been collecting data for John (Sherman) over the last few weeks for a presentation he's giving at PIA in Feb. Not specifically reserve data, but opening data collected via a datalogger..... once the presentation is over I think he may have me post it on the jumpshack website. I'll post here as soon as I know for sure....
