  1. I know manufacturers are reluctant to answer questions regarding other manufacturers products but, I just send them an email and awaiting a response. I’m guessing they’ll just refer me to each manufacturer, but I asked the question in a neutral manner -so hopefully they’ll be able to answer without the fear of judgement from the other manufacturers.
  2. I kinda wold like to get the Precision, Icarus, or Decelerator, but am hesitant only because i don’t know how full they pack in a V310 -AS COMPARED TO Similar sizes of the other brands -as both reserve and main will be packed to “full” UPT specifications. PD and Nano aren’t an option for me, because they’re out of the price range I’m willing to pay -without accruing a debt. At the same time, i’d like to learn as much as I can about the packing, flying, and flaring characteristics as I can from ya’ll with experience in these canopies (as I don’t have the ability to try them out before purchasing). I appreciate ya’lls input.
  3. Would you consider the R-Max as bulky -being that it’s strongly built?
  4. The reason I was asking is because I am looking to buy one; they’re in my size range and the price is good for me and I narrowed down my choices to them. I’d like to try ‘em out but it’s just not possible for me and wanted input from y’all. I’m buying a reserve this week -finally.
  5. There you are at 2,000 feet and you have to cut away from a high-speed malfunction; which would give you more confidence of survival -an Icarus 149 Reserve or Precision R-Max 148?
  6. You’ll need an altimeter, probably buy that first. When I finished my A license, is when i realized it was the instructor who lets you use his altimeter during AFF and not rented with rest of gear. Luckily one of the instructors didn’t have a student that day and he let me use his extra -otherwise I would’ve been grounded. ...And that is why I bought my altimeter first.
  7. Ideally, i’d Like to, but currently don’t have a reserve in my rig and therefore no ability to demo. Just wanted to know the reasonability of packing the OP160 as not to give a rigger a difficult job. ...thanks for the reply.
  8. I currently have a vector3 v310 container and am debating putting an OP160 instead of my original OP143 idea. My question is: would it be a pain in the neck for a rigger to pack an OP160 into this container (w/ Skyhook and AAD); I understand it’s considered “full” by UPT, but don’t know to what degree. I’ll be jumping a Sabre2 150 (also “full”).
  9. Thanks for the replies. I’m small, so it’s not really a “hot little rig” to me. I guess it’s more of a rigging issue as the pack volumes are so different amongst manufacturers. Parachute systems gives the pack volumes on their website for each of their canopies, but PD doesnt; they have a “pack volume chart” but it’s pretty much useless as they don’t give pack volumes on it. I found the pack volume for the decelerator150 is between the OP143 and OP160 -but closer to the latter. Nonetheless, I’m still awaiting a response by UPT for the reserve tray volume of the v310. I couldn’t find the pack volume of the sabre2 150 to compare with that of the Volt 150. I guess I was just wondering if anyone else put these in their Rig to see how it worked out.
  10. Recently got a Micron V310 container and was thinking to save a few bucks and put a P.S. Volt 150/Decelerator 150 combo in it. I contacted both Manufacturers UPT and P.S., neither were real helpful as they both pointed me back to the other manufacturer. Can someone on her help me? Just wondering if thsee components will fit safely together. Thanks.
  11. Finally got my container (v310) and am looking for gear to go in it. I’m looking for a canopy (150 sq.ft.)that i’ll be using for at least a few years. Been deciding between a Sabre 2, Pilot, Silhouette, or a Volt. ...did I mention I have 50 jumps -mostly on a Sabre 2 170. My wingload on a 150 is 1.13 (my instructors feel comfortable with me downsizing to the 150) and 49 stand-up landings (I tipped-over on my 3rd jump [:P , so technically it may have not been a stand up); nonetheless, looking on advise for a purchase of a long-term canopy for progression.
  12. Is there a "General Rule of Thumb" as to what a good riser length for the height of a skydiver? (ie. 19" risers for anyone less than 5'6"; 21" risers for 5'6" - 5'11"; etc...)?? Just trying to figure out if I should get 19" main risers or 21" main risers at 5'6".
  13. Okay, found something on a owners manual .PDF online... ICON HARNESS SIZE: The Icon Harness is produced in the following sizes: A= XX-Special E= Large B= X-Small F= X-Large C= Small G= XX-Large D= Medium H= XXX-Large Assuming the size "C-A-A-E" is in the order Yoke, MLW, Laterals, & leg strap. The harness size is: Yoke= Small MLW= XX Special Laterals= XX Special Leg strap= Large How's that sound? Oh, how I love assuming.
  14. Does anyone know much about the icon harness sizes. I'm looking at used rigs and see harness sizes such as, "F-B-G-E" & "C-A-A-E"; I'm curious as to what size each letter corresponds to. I've searched aerodynes website (to no evail) and tried to call (no answer probably because of the holidays). ...Hoping for some help from you knowledgeable folks for answers. :-)
