  1. I've read that article a bunch. I decided to use one but was looking for advice on waiting to get a skyhook and jumping without anything until then or just getting an RSL. Ok so then I can't swap out a new pilot chute I need a rigger to do it.
  2. Cool thanks I might get a new one if it's a simple swap out. Bummer the RSL is a job for a master rigger. Vector container.
  3. My new rig doesn't have an RSL. I've poked around and it looks like the skyhook is much better than a regular RSL (?). Should I invest the cost in that, or just get a regular RSL until I can get a skyhook (have nothing now). Also, I have a PD Specter 190. Do I need to buy both large and small bands or can I just use large? Is there a big difference? My PC is pretty dingy and beat up. Should I buy a new one or leave it alone? If I get one how hard/expensive is it to have then switched out?
  4. Hahaha. I'll check it out. That's good to hear it's not as precise as I thought. I certainly won't be taking shortcuts anytime soon, but good to know it's more forgiving than I imagined.
  5. Bullshit.. stuff it in there and jump it
  6. Thanks guys That is an excellent idea. Idk why a few times i've pulled my canopy out and it has line twists even though i've walked the lines and it seems like done a decent job of separating them. I am miles away from being able to jump my own pack.
  7. Thank god for everyone else. Thanks for the tips will check them out. It seems i'm able to do everything but probably the most important part. The flaking out and equalizing the canopy before pulling the tail around and folding it into the bag. Having trouble understanding what lines are what and how to get them right and equal. More practice and videos until I get to the DZ again.
  8. Thanks guys watched them all and messing around. Great video but it doesn't show toggle storage or putting the bag back in and bridle routing, or cocking a collapsable PC. Guessing that stuff was too simple or self explanatory for them to put it in?
  9. Happy I finally got my own rig to take home and practice. There are a ton of packing videos out there. Can someone point me in the most clear cut one they know of that is a basic standard pack job ? Thanks.
  10. Deal never went anywhere. Guy kind of pissed me off, just started ignoring me messages without having the courtesy to just say sorry I changed my mind or whatever his reason was. Jumped a 190 today after being out for a bit over a month. Loved it. Felt fine. Didn't expect to go from 260 to 190 just like that but it's better than jumping that giant thing. Looking to get a 190 now for sure.
  11. I watched a load come in at a bigger DZ yesterday. They all came in so freaking fast and I think only one out of maybe seven or eight stood up the landing. The rest slid some of them look like they hit pretty violently throwing up dust.... I have no desire for that I have bad knees I don't understand what that was about and I'd rather avoid that..
  12. Thank you I was more curious about the price then whether it's right for me. I know you guys can't make that call. I also know that I'm not very comfortable on the 210 so I'm not ready for 190. But if it's a good deal on it fits what I want and I can use it for several hundred jumps in many years that I don't mind buying it now and growing into it. But if it's a mediocre deal or a bad one that I can pass and wait for something else.
  13. Win load would be Just about right on 1 with a 190. I'm about 170 but drift between 170 -80.
  14. Not sure waiting for him to finish to ask more details. But I'm guessing at least a few years because he said he hasn't used it in a while. I don't know if you read my post wrong or if I'm reading is wrong but he said he paid 6000 for it new and I believe he wants less than three now with only 50 or less jumps on it I'm not trying to rush into downsizing. If it's a good deal on it I don't mind buying it and continuing to rent gear until I'm comfortable on a 190 rental then switch over.
  15. I know it's extremely preferable to have the size and type you're used to as a reserve but if I have to take reserve ride I think I'll just be happy there something above my head. How's the price out? That's pretty good for something with so few jumps isn't it?
  16. Met someone today at a fishing event who used to jump and things he's done with it and wanted to know if I was interested in buying his gear. He said it's a wings container with a saber 2 190 Main and a 170 reserve. Is double checking to make sure the main was 190 and the 170. He said he paid over six grand for it new and now and it's probably worth less than half so it sounds like I might be able to get it for 2500 maybe three or even less I don't know. He said he put about 40 or 50 jumps on a total it's in great condition, but would need to repack. I know I have very little jumps and the lowest I've jumped is at 210 which I still not comfortable on. My instructor said once I get my a license to start looking at a 190 and then I can downsize one or two sizes and keep the same container when I'm ready. Provided it is a 190, and everything checks out is this a good deal I should jump on? Sounds like just what I'm looking for even the color I wanted. He said I'm more than welcome to borrow it and jump it to see how I like it before I buy it. Sidenote I don't know how but I forgot that I had already put away $3000 for my first rig and just found it so I have that to work with.
  17. Is it ever possible to jump with a tandem? Example, you have a friend/family that wants to do a tandem and you to jump with them. Not as the tandem instructor but just with them. If it's possible what license do you need to hold? I imagine if so it would be a D or instructor license of some type?
  18. So I went down Thursday and got one in. Woke up Friday and got 2 in (one coach). Woke up Saturday got in another early coach one before having to take off to a wedding. Got home late Saturday night exhausted. Couldn't stop thinking about jumping so I got up early today and drove down to my home dz and got one in before having to split for a new room mate. Now i'm just mad nothing around here is open on a Monday....
  19. So I'm glad I was advised not to buy one yet even though I'd like my own. Been looking at the different styles and jumping different ones. Tried a swoop(?) suit. The webbing in the armpits was cool for tacking. Jumped a (RW?) suit with booties today. Hated it. Felt like my feet were stuck. Not sure if it was the cause but I could not get stable. I tracked off twice and felt way more stable tracking than arching. Wasn't sure if you leave them on to land but I felt restricted so I popped them off before landing. Definitely not a fan of those...
  20. Thanks guys (and girls)! Going to make the trip Friday and see how many I can comfortably do. Shooting for 4 and see how I feel after that. Then hopefully one or two Saturday morning.
  21. Lodi isn't much further. Funny thing is I used to live right next to it for 15 years but wouldn't do AFF there. Still have lots of friends and family there and can stay for free. Kind of how I felt. The jumps I can Get in there are just enough to keep me current, not progress. But absolutely no fault to then I get it. Small dz and had to stay in business by doing tandems. Fun jumpers are second. I'm going to skydance Friday. Might check out lodi soon. Jump tickets are cheap but the gear rental seems I cost as much or more.
  22. That's what i'm talking about. Thinking about going over to SkyDance either 2 or 3 days during the week or weekend, whatever is more conducive to learning and progressing quicker. I'm free for most of the summer now, so I wouldn't have to take time off. There's not a huge rush, I can't afford my end goal right now anyway. But I really don't like the idea of getting 1 or 2 jumps a month. Especially when to get that I may have to sit around all day for 1 or 2. When i'm ready to jump and it's nice i'd like to go all in and jump repeatedly. And since it's over 100 miles to go to a bigger one I might as well make the trip worth it and bang them out. And I don't mean just jump for a number (Although I do have a longterm goal of C license) but learn and progress. If that means I can only jump 2 times a day to "get it" and let things sink in that's fine, that's just what I was hoping for input on. Right now my short term goal is A license pretty quick and B license by the end of summer at the worst hopefully. The real goal is to progress and get better but I know that won't happen with 1-2 jumps a month. So if I can do 4 a day 2 or 3 days in a row (one trip to other DZ) i'd be stoked. Sounds like that's not unreasonable.
  23. At the rate i'm going it will literally be 15 years before I get my C license. I'm thinking about draining my savings and going to campout a couple days a week in a row and hammer out as many as possible per day. Right now it's hard to have a day that works for me line up with my smaller local tandem oriented DZ so I think it would be worth my time to drive 100-150 miles and stay there for multiple days. What's a reasonable number of jumps to get in one day at an active larger sized DZ? I've never done as many as I can at an active DZ, will one day full of jumping be extremely fatiguing and hard to do multiple days? Is it a bad idea to cram and not take time between to decompress and let things settle in?
  24. Why not offer to take it home and run it thru the washer? Not sure it would survive a wash cycle lol. Might see if I can use the next size up.
  25. Ok thanks. I'll just suck it up and keep using the ugly smelly gross one with a torn out ass.
