  1. Actually Heidelberg is in a region with quite a lot of Dropzones: There ist Bruchsal (Pilatus Porter), Walldorf (C182) and FSC Mannheim (Porter) and within a good hour driving distance also Schlierstadt / Southside Base (Porter ervey weekend). I've been to all of them but Bruchsal and although they are quite different I like all of them! Walldorf - Small one with C182, but operating every weekend and with a small and tight (but opoen) community. FSC Mannheim - my Home-Dropzone, porter on every second-weekend, and C182 in between. (be sure to check the calender) Southside Base: Commercial Dropozone, but same feeling like at a club, POorter every weekend, jumping on Fridays and good infrastructure with hangar etc. So have fun!
  2. Looking at one of the videos on the page, it seems it has problems with inaccuracis on the altitude. probably it's because of the GoPro casecreating a burble where the back door lets the air in. But really? This thing only creates subtitle files, so how does it differ from the FlySight? Sure you have to match the video and FlySight data, but it's not that hard. FS can also give you more data than this thing. I don't really see the point They wrote, that the height is displayed in realtime with no processing to make it "stable" but i think there will be an update for it. And yes, its barometric. Compared to flighsight i think about some differences: No additional mount No additional gear to check and maintain Cheaper (99 Dollars) Less afterwork to merge data and video. Dead simple :) Sure a FS has many other great things to offer and is a great tool (gimmick) to. The one thing I really miss with the AltiForce would be displayed speed, but I hope for future changes :) For mem it's mostly some new gimmick to test and play with :) But right now I'm still waiting for shipping.
  3. I should be the guy on those "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY" memes :) So, of course, I already ordered it at the instance I came first across an advertisement :) Classic: Told a friend of mine about it the next day and could't even remember the companys name :) Anyway, as it's already shipped it should be here (Germany) during the next week, and in the air on the first April weekend, and I'll post an instant review about it.
  4. Looks nice, but the first thing is: - It's field of view ist 240 !! Pretty impressive anyway, but far away from 360 :) ---> EDIT: Wow, pretty impressive, according to a magazine it's got indeed 360degrees horizontal, and 240 degrees vertical !! The other thing I'm wandering about is: - are the promovideos somehow modified to reduce fish-eye effects? - How compatible will these videofiles be, or how will they look if you don't use (/have) the special player for it? But may be worth a shot when it is available :)
  5. Maybe you're interessted in one, who has just recently received such a course and has quite well observed different trends and methods for beginning with camera. -- THIS ALL DESCRIBES THE SITUATION IN GERMANY --- We just recently had some changes in the instructors handbook (mandatory). The requirements used to be: 100jumps and a short (not further specified) briefing. NOW it still is 100jumps minimum, BUT at least you have to do 6 Training jumps: 2 with an instructor, (still without camera) to show that you are safety-conscious, current and aware of what you're doing AND thta you're able to fly within distance and within the discipline you want to film. 2 with camera gear (not neccesarily with instructor), camera NOT RUNNING 2- with camera and instructor, to show that you can handle the new gear, set the right priorities, adjust your EPs etc. Along those jumps there has to be an sincere briefing (not further specified). Now for my "course": I'm no "oldtimer", but I'm already long enough into the sport to know, that there are different people for different answers (on the same questions). I could have gone the "easy way", but didn't want to. So i chose Jasper Williams for a coach. I did this, because he's a super conscius and really safety-aware instructor. (AFF, Video, Canopy courses, 3000+ jumps). I had so many talks with him during my AFF and afterwards on dozens of topics and always liked his calm personality. One of the things he did, was to help me develop my own Cut-Away for my helmet and develop it even further. So we agreeed, that he would iontroduce me into videoflying. Just as I expected it was A LOT more than: "Mind the snag hazard". SOME of the things that might not come to mind first: - Fit all camera related things into your routine. Examples: In the morning check your Cypres, AND your Batteries for the camera. Put on your Altimeter AND your GoPro-remote, etc... So you don't have to worry or get into a hurry. As he is into professionell video-flying he always made sure, thta you make (Camera-)gearcheck a habit, so you will not have to disappoint a customer or fellow flyer at the ground, because you forget to ensure working gear. - He went through me EPs several times during the briefing and beetween jumps, in order to make the helmet-cutaway a habit, as well as placing a check for the helmet-cutaway handle into my routinely gearcheck before bording, in the plane, and right after opening my canopy. - Going through my pull-position with regard to the camera Beside these (and many more) camera-related things he went through so many other safety-related things again and again that I learned (and regained) a lot more than just the camera-things. After all, I DID learn a lot, adjusted my gearchecks and EPs, got even more safety-aware AND had a lot of fun during this day and had some built-in bellyflying training :) NOW I'm allowed to use the camera for inside-view and after a further check-jump on outside-view for small belly-RW. For outside-video of other disciplines a have to get a "rating" for the discipline itself first, but no further camera-check-jump (not sure on the last). AND after all, I have to say, all this adresses more the time-to-time and for-fun camera-jumper, for professionell video-flying you should get further briefing and coaching, like ground-video, video-suit, big equipment etc. You may discuss the 100-jump limit, but this is a different topic. For the course itself I think that the instructors-manual should get a bit more precise and perhaps have some print-material or hand-out on the different topics. But if on does it like my instructor did, i think it's a real progress and a safe and sound way to introduce into camera-flying. FrE3minD / Andreas W. Germany - Herrenteich - DFV 17863
  6. Unfortunately the answer in almost any of these cases is: Near to nothing :) I've come across 4 big to huge collections during the last two years, all out of the last wills of deceased, two in our family and two with some good friends. 3 have sold them for the price of the metal, and I myself kept it as a memory of my Grandpa. The times of collecting coins seems long gone. There are only very few collectors left, and most of them are in an advanced age and collecting for decades, so they might already have "everything". If you or someone near to you would have a collection with some real rare and worthy coins you just would know it. Same for stamps, and model railways, but for the latter there are some chances left. And even the metal price ain't normally worth selling them, as I got offered 200$ for 3 albums. The other problem is really to find someone trustworthy to have a look over it :( But hey, maybe there's something within your collection, so you still should give it a try :)
  7. @ virgin-burner Sry, I somehow implied V3 would be the next generation of the V2, but after looking again at the sonic-HP I found out, that V2 is quite diefferent and still available :) But this quote pretty much sums it up: Rainbow: Yes, I've heard of them, there are even many at our DZ which stick to Rainbow, but didn't find any model that pleases me in technical design and/or pattern. So among those many manufactureres it's down to Sonic. As long as I won't find another SUPER-EXTREME-GOOD suit, I'm not into reading and comparing 243434 Suits again :) Took me 4 weeks to decide on a helmet, mostly because of the many many availiable models :) (Got a Cookie Fuel) Anyone with pics of the AERIAL?
  8. @ virgin-burner: my first thought was about the V3 too, but my Instructor thoguht it might be still too fast for me, as I have my weight somehow concentrated at my belly, which is where the "stretchy" part would be. And with our student suits (Sonic STUDENT) which uses similar fabrics as the V3 I have a tight fit around the body, and quite wide legs with thick cordura and still fall around 60 m/s, maybe faster the more stable I get :) So I think it really comes down to those two (AERIAL/INSTRUCTOR), besides they both hav some options I would have to pay for if I chose the V3. 9. Hi everybody. I'm just about to order my first suit. As I'm a little bit short for my weight (177cm, 89kilos) my Instructor recommended the AERIAL for me, which was my first choice as well. But until now I could find nowbody who jumps this suit so I gut get a First-Hand on it, especially the look. It's mostly cotton/polycotton; And as I have seen quite a few other manufacturers' cotton suits I'm a little bit afraid it might not look pleasant to me, rather like some kind of night-suit oder Jogging-Suit than some modern, high-quality skydiving stuff :) As I found out (an spoke about with my Instructor) the INSTRUCTOR suit would fit my need quite well, too, beside beeing a little bit "warmer". So I would really appreciate some real-Life quality Pictures of the AERIAL worn. Unforntunately I was not able to find some via Google: Just the advertise pictures from sonics website an some pretty old 64kbyte Pics. Mostly I'm searching for pictures, but your opinion regarding these two suits is welcome anyway! Thank you Andreas
