downplanes in free fly pants, yeah or nay?

last weekend when doing them the other jumper gripped the cuff of my jeans with his thumb inside and the other fingers outside. i was wondering if there are any structural integrity issues doing this with FF pants. especailly if the cuff is left open for a better grip.
