DVD Architect?

I Have version 5.0 and am trying to do an hd video but the default setting is 720x480 ntsc in disk properties. The drop down doesn't give anything higher than that?
Any suggestions?

I can't remember exactly what I had to do for it to be set to HD. When I get home I will be able to give you more specifics.

Try creating a New Project and it should give you the option of choosing HD settings.

I created a new project , changed the format to wide screen 720 in there and it looks normal now. I'm assuming thats the only option there, for the hd project.

Ok, I am home now and can give you more specifics.

Create a new project and set it to blu ray disk instead of DVD. Then it will give you the options you are looking for. I generally use the AVC 1440x1080 60i.
I choose those settings because I want to write to a DVD so it will play on my Blu Ray disk player in high definition.

you can access a similar menu by choosing FILE | Properties as well.

How exactly do you burn the HD content to a DVD? Won't DVD Architect encode the file to an SD mpeg before creating the DVD?

Only if you tell it do. If the master source is AVC, then it'll burn those files without any recompression, unless you specify in the project properties that it should be SD. Then...it will be kinda ugly using AVC low bit source recompressed for SD MPEG2.

Blu Ray disc players can read AVCHD off of DVD's and play it in HD.

Thanks. So then is rendering and burning an AVC file the best way to make an HD DVD playable on a Blue Ray player? Can you still add multiple scenes and menus and such to the DVD?

I don't have a Blue Ray player, or I would just test all this out w/o having to ask the questions.

If you don't have a Blu Ray disc writer and don't want to fork out the cash for the blank media then yes it's the best way create discs that a Blu Ray disc player can read and play in HD.

With DVD Architect 5 you can create an AVC disc on a DVD with menu's and everything just like a regular mpeg2 DVD. It won't play on anything except a Blu Ray disc player.
