Win98 vs. Win98 SE using IEEE1394 (firewire)

Recommended Posts

Stay well away from 98 SE, I consider it to be Win 98 minus (instead of like 95 plus, get it?).

In my experience a regular version of 98 has less problems then 98 SE. If you're just looking to upgrade, have you thought about going to XP or 2000?

If you are using USB you will need Win98SE or WinXP, as the original 98 doesn't work with USB. If it's a OHCI compliant 1394 card then it should be ok as long as you have the correct drivers with it, as Win98 didn't ship with generic 1394 drivers (I'm pretty sure). I don't know what problem Dave had, but most techies would argue that 98SE was far superior to 98. But certainly WinXP is a good way to go if you have 128Mb+ ram and a 600+ CPU.
