raymod2 1 #1 May 28, 2007 Regarding the RDS from Skyworks Rigging: There are two ways to attach the floating stainless steel rings to the slider. 1) put the loop through the ring first then through the slider grommet 2) put the loop through the slider grommet first then through the ring After searching the forums I see other people are hooking them up using method 1. See Grant's photos in this thread: http://dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1652714 However, I mistakenly used method 2 for my first 6 jumps with the system. When I switched to method 1 I noticed much faster openings. Is there more potential for a malfunction using either method?
Guinness_fr 0 #2 May 29, 2007 I also hook them up using method #1. If you pay real attention on your slider quartering and position until you put the canopy in the bag the openings should not be fast. At least in my case they're not faster than with the stock slider. My gut feeling is that #2 might leave more room for malfunctions but I can't really explain why so it's probably best if Mel chimes in and enlightens us.. yardhippie 0 #3 May 29, 2007 Method #1 as you have it described. I dont know that there is enough "loop" material to attach it the other way. I think that my openings are a bit slower with the RDS unit from Joe and Mel, then with my stock Velo slider. The only time they get funky is when I get lazy with my packing and dont get the slider quartered properly.Goddam dirty hippies piss me off! ~GFD "What do I get for closing your rig?" ~ me "Anything you want." ~ female skydiver Mohoso Rodriguez #
SkymonkeyONE 3 #4 May 29, 2007 Method 1. That's how Joe taught me when he gave me my first one.
