A Word About Advertising

Recommended Posts

This is a unique forum in this community. As a result, the application of the no advertising rule requires some clarification. First, please refresh your memory regarding the rule itself:

No Advertising

Advertising is forbidden in all forums except where noted. An ad is defined as “a service or product being offered for trade or sale”. It does not include events or seminars. However, information about events and seminars may only be posted in the Events & Places to Jump forum unless they are specific to a discipline in which case they may be posted to the relevant Skydiving Discipline forum. You will not advertise or solicit other members to buy, sell or peruse any products or services for that purpose through this discussion forum. In ALL our forums, chain letters and junk mail are strictly prohibited. The advertising policy covers all aspects of the forums including avatars and signatures. Use the Classifieds section for all advertising and see the Advertising pages for more information about how to advertise on Dropzone.com via banners, block ads or forum sponsorships.

This forum is the most appropriate place to post information about advances in wind tunnel technology, construction plans and updates about new wind tunnels, renovations and/or improvements to existing tunnels, and related information. It is also the best place for announcing *major* wind tunnel events.

This forum may not be used to post ads to buy or sell a product or service. The two key pieces of information that usually push a post over the no advertising line are 1) pricing (prize money info is OK), and 2) details on how to order the product or book the service.

A *major* event such as a tunnel competition or tunnel camp is fine, but specific details on pricing and booking should be provided via a website/email link or telephone number, not in the post. Specials or discounts are not considered major events.

This application of the no advertising rule is similar to the Events and Places To Jump Forum - this thread may be helpful in gaining more clarity on the issue.

Two exceptions regarding pricing are the hourly rate and prize money. Tunnel Owners and Staff or patrons in the know may answer questions posed by forum users, but may not offer the information up without being asked. I equate the hourly rate to the price of jump tickets, which is fair game here as part of normal conversations.

If there are any questions about this issue, please discuss it here or send me a PM.

I will try to edit advertising out of posts that contain otherwise acceptable information. There are some existing posts here that may already need to be cleaned up - please be patient as I handle them case-by-case. Posts that are blatantly considered advertising will be removed.

Thanks! B|
