FCipollo 1 #1 January 17, 2006 I'm a relatively new skydiver from NYC and am looking to head down to Deland for one Saturday of jumping. What's the best way to find people from my area who would like to make a run down there for a weekend as well? I've never been there so any suggestions on where to stay, etc. would be appreciated. CSpenceFLY 1 #2 January 17, 2006 Your DZ might help you contact area jumpers since it is winter up there, then again some places guard their contact info like gold.Try to find out if there are any jumper e-mail groups up there.Do a seach for Skydive Mentors,I don't have their address handy but I'll look for it.They have a skydiver e-mail group in your area. . skymama 35 #4 January 17, 2006 There is a Holiday Inn down the road that offers a skydiver discount. Also, there are bunkhouses that local skydivers own where you might be able to get a bed for a cheaper price. Check the Deland website or call manifest for more information. By the way, Scott Miller does a great canopy control course in Deland. I highly recommend you stay for a weekend and do his 2 day course if you can, especially at this stage in your skydiving progression. Do a search on the forums and you will find many happy skydivers who took his course, including me.She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
jmpnkramer 0 #5 January 18, 2006 Just going to state the obvious. This should be moved to Bonfire because it is not event related at all. I Hope you enjoy your trip to Florida. You might also want to look into some tunnel time as well. If you can afford it. .The REAL KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER! "HESITATION CAUSES DEATH!!!" CSpenceFLY 1 #6 January 18, 2006 Forums: Skydiving: Events & Places to Jump: Above taken from the header at the top of this forum. And notice he is not advertising, well unless this is a shady way for Skydive Deland to sneek some advertising into the Events forum . skymama 35 #7 January 18, 2006 In his post, he states, "I've never been there so any suggestions on where to stay, etc. would be appreciated." This forum is about Events AND Places to Jump. It is the forum to ask questions about specific dropzones and hundreds of threads cover this type of topic. It most certainly belongs in this forum. Give it a rest, Kramer, and stop hijacking threads with your personal beefs. PM the guy who makes the rules with your thoughts instead. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
bisqit999 0 #8 January 18, 2006 I'm from NYC also. I was thinking of going there too but decided on Eloy next weekend instead. You can email Skydive Long Island, manifest has a list and they email us when they're open. She probably won't give you the list but maybe she can send one out on you behalf. Or, just meet up with me in Arizona next weekend!
divesky 0 #9 January 19, 2006 I was there last weekend and did my first gainer out of a skyvan. Camping is free, there is a bunkhouse, full restaraunt/bar. The first DZ I've ever seen that you would never need to leave.
