Hi!

Recommended Posts

Hey,

Im new here. Obviously.
I actually got to this site from Wikipedia, which links to it from the article "Skydiving".

Ive wanted to do it for years and years, and nearly did for my birthday 2 years ago. (Im currently 18)

I plan to make it a regular hobby.

I live in Brisbane, Australia. Ive looked in Dropzones and noted there are a couple here so that shouldnt be a problem.

What sort of costs does it involve? (per jump?)
If i were ot join a club, how much would it be?

Any other info you have for a beginner/someone who wants to start would be great.

Thanks,
Matt

Dig thru the posts on this website and you will learn a lot. Dig thru the websites of the home DZ and you will learn a lot.

Welcome... Beware, someone once told me that the DZ can empty your pocket quicker than a casino... But it is much more fun, that is for sure.

My advice to you... Goto a DZ this weekend and start hanging out. You will get your questions answered and you might even make a jump.

Go check out Ramblers at Toogoolawa, not far west of you. It's a great DZ. Nice facilities and a very friendly crowd. They also have a super fleet of turbine aircraft.

Do a tandem, then get into AFF, then then sky's the limit. Get a couple of hundred jumps and then try a wingsuit. THEN, you'll know why the birds are always singing!

Don't worry about losing all of your non jumping friends. Some may come with you. Otherwise you'll make new friends that will stay by you all of your life. It's all good.

Blue Skies,

fergs

hey Matt

Being an ex (and soon-ish to be repatriated Brisvegan) with all of 1 tandem jump under my belt I can give you the info I gleaned from my small dealings with our local skydivers.

I did my jump with Redcliffe city skydive, top outfit full of good people and parachutes that work :P. They (as at FEB this year) don't run full AFF courses but speak highly of Ramblers out at Toogoolawah (as has been said here).

Dunno what the forum rules re: posting web addresses is but I won't just in case (both these companies have websites listed here on dropzone.com).

An AFF, all the way to your A licence (20 jumps) with Ramblers is AUD 3,300 - talked to the guy there and he said they do student/poor skydiver deals, basically rock up and have a chat and they will try and sort you out.

as has been said just go to the DZ and meet some folk, Redcliffe city skydivers are always looking for video editors and ground crew if you want weekend work, great way to get on the inside and meet some really good blokes (and girls too ... if you're into that sort of thing )

good luck

Colin
